Would go back in a heartbeat!
Awesome. Staff, environment and amenities were absolutely perfect. Island was hospitable and very non-touristy. A little far from San Pedro but that was welcome. Beach and water was fantastic. Hope to return in the near future. About 30 minutes by golf cart to the nearest grocery store however.
This is the second time we have been to this resort if your looking for a quite place to relax with great views, nice people, and a very clean beach this is the place for you. They have a over the water bar that give you get views of your surroundings.
Don’t let the location keep you away
We arrived on a windy, rainy night. Our transportation was handled smoothly from the ferry terminal. Our check in process was smooth and they assisted us with luggage to the room. They wouldn’t allow me to tip them. The room had a view of the pool and ocean. Open concept so you don’t feel claustrophobic (which I feel at Ramon’s right now). Selvin was super friendly and quick to help us when we couldn’t figure out our DVD player at 9pm. My teens fell in love with him. Haha. Our needs where tended to quickly. Kayaks and bikes are free. Water trampoline and volleyball there. Corn hole. Iguanas and banana trees. Nice pool with a view of the ocean. Others charge. The food was pretty good. They offer free transportation to a couple neighboring restaurants. They will coordinate your water taxi transfer to town. Everyone was friendly. Grounds maintained nicely. Beach was inviting. Room was much larger than the place we are in now and the price was less than half. We had a larger fridge, cooktop, and a table. None of that here. Felt very safe there too. The only bad thing I would say is the smell of sewage but I’ve smelled that all over the island. I’m sure it’s difficult for this island to keep up with the sanitation requirements of so many tourists. I know they’re working on fixing that but these things take a lot of money and resources. Also, they leave a big supply of water to use because their water isn’t filtered. Didn’t bother us a bit and was nice to have. Shower water salty but I mean we were in the ocean all day so who cares. They had free WiFi, an older tv with cable and a DVD player with a limited selection of movies to borrow. We actually never made it through 15 minutes of a movie because we were exhausted! Our excursion was handled nicely. Once again, friendly people. We had no problem with bugs either. We rented a golf cart elsewhere only because we were transferring to another resort half way through our stay and we like adventure (golf cart hill billies we were). We went to Secret Beach twice. I think it was a 30 minute trip? Not sure. We had fun with it. We went into town for dinner twice which took about 40 minutes on cart. We really enjoyed the golf cart transportation though. Bring a Bluetooth speaker and some downloaded music to make the ride more enjoyable! I’d recommend X’Tan Ha over some of the more popular places to stay. Save your money and be treated even better. That’s been our case, at least.
We're coming back!
My husband and I visited X'tan Ha for our 25th anniversary and are already planning a return visit with our kids. This resort hit all the right notes for us: the staff was welcoming and responsive. We purposely chose the remote location because it appeared to have a better beach access than those closer to town. Water taxis to town cost us $10 per person each way and the sufficient amenities at the property resulted in our not feeling the need to leave the grounds to go to San Pedro more than once. (Golf carts are also available.) The snorkeling tour to Mexico rocks was a highlight and we enjoyed using the complimentary bikes and exploring other properties in the nearby vicinity. Kayaks are available and the 2 pools are refreshing. We feel lucky to have visited the property only a couple of months after the new restaurant managers took over. Box Balaam served delicious seafood and other tasty dishes. We are from a restaurant city so we appreciated the quality ingredients and authentic preparation that went into every meal we ordered, Another resort we considered had a menu that resembled airport food: pizza, pasta, burgers. In our experience, the prices were not unreasonable given the quality of what was being served. We loved the location of the bar over the water. The tap water was salty. The resort tries to make up for this by providing a gallon of purified water in the rental unit. We found the unit comfortable and well-suited for our needs. The property is a nice size, not sprawling, but offering everything we needed.
We had a nice 6 nights at X’tan before moving to another island. The pool was great. The staff worked very hard to Keep the beach clean of the sea grass. The bar and front desk staff where fantastic. The bathroom however could use some work! I’m not one to really complain and I read reviews before we went on the bathrooms in the units. So I knew there was a possibility it was rough... it was lol. Other then that it was a fantastic place to start our journey to Belize
