Pros and Cons of Villa Del Palmar Cabo
I stayed at this resort for 1 week from January 13 to 20, 2025, in a Junior Suite Ocean View, on an All Inclusive package. Pros: • The food was generally very good. Every meal is made to order except for the breakfast buffet at Bella California, but even then you get your omelet/eggs made to order. Some reviewers said it takes too long to get your food; I am fairly impatient, yet I found that the time to get my food was perfectly fine. • The alcohol selection was very good. • The service was generally very good. • The resort is right on Medano Beach, one of the few beaches from Cabo to San Jose Del Cabo where you can swim in the ocean. • Even with the red flag flying every day, people were swimming with no problems. • The hotel was generally quiet, and I slept well. I was only occasionally woken up, usually by a thoughtless guest moving furniture across the tiled floor. • There are two Walmart’s a short walking distance away if you need provisions. • The gym is large and well equipped. • There seemed to be lots of daily activities, if you are into that. • I only saw one nightly show, and it was good. • There is a coffee station in the lobby from 6am to 7am. • It is a short taxi ride to the marina, or you can walk there safely and easily in about 26 minutes. • The view of the sunrise, the hills toward the arches, and the sunset behind those hills were all very nice. Cons: • As other reviewers have said, there is some construction going on in the courtyard area. They are building the theater/Fiesta night dinner restaurant. Sometimes the workers were doing relatively quiet work, and sometimes they were using an angle grinder on the steel roof, which you could hear 100 yards away. • As other reviewers have said, everyone has to fill out a chit after every meal in a restaurant and every evening of beverages in the Sports Bar, including All Inclusive guests. I’ve never seen this before for All Inclusive guests. It’s an annoyance to attract the attention of your server, ask for your bill, wait a while for it, and fill it in (name, room number, and signature), when you’re not paying anything. (Though I always leave a cash tip of $1USD for lunch, dinner and each drink). It’s clear from your wrist band that you are All Inclusive. I recommend the hotel stop requiring chits for All Inclusive guests. Do what is done at the beach and pool, and at every other resort restaurant and bar in Mexico: Ask for the guest’s room number, period. • As other reviewers have said, the replenishment of the bottled water (2) in the fridge does not happen consistently. Three of my seven days it was not done. I called Room Service and to make sure I wasn’t charged for an alleged second honor bar replenishment that day, I wrote on the chit “Water not replenished today”. • The morning coffee station runs empty between 6:30am and 6:45am. After that you have to wait until 7am (not a second earlier, I learned) and go to Bella California to ask for a coffee, which takes up the time of the hostess there as she has to now walk away to get you a coffee while a line up forms behind you. There should be 5 or 6 coffee urns at the morning coffee station, not 1 medium and 1 small one. And it should be available from 6am to 9am like every other resort in Mexico. • I was disappointed that the Sports Bar was my only bar option at night. If an NFL game is playing, every seat is occupied, it’s sometimes standing room only, and it is very loud. There are only 6 to 8 bar stools at the Pool Bar, and it closes at 8pm. • English TV is limited to one entertainment channel, four news channels, and one sports news channel. • There was no smoke alarm in my room or in the hallways (Building 1). • The plumbing can occasionally be loud. Miscellaneous This is an average sized resort. It is older, but well maintained. Being essentially in downtown Cabo, the resort is a fairly long way from the airport. If you book a shuttle rather than an exclusive vehicle, be prepared for it to take up to an hour. I used Cabo Seasons for my shuttle. They were prompt and a good value. Some reviewers have complained about the “90 minute” timeshare presentations that actually take 3 hours. The presentations are completely voluntary. If you’re not interested, tell them clearly and politely upon Check In. But if you are at the resort for a brief all-expenses paid stay on the understanding you have to attend the presentation, or if you want big discounts on excursions on the understanding you have to attend the presentation, you can’t blame the resort for trying hard to make a sale and recoup their money. Other reviewers have commented that there is no internet. I asked a staff person about internet access upon arrival, was given a QR code for internet, and was online instantly. It was very fast during the day but very slow in the evenings, probably due to guests streaming movies, watching videos, and gaming. Management should ensure there is free, powerful internet to all those who bought packages that include free internet. The only reservation restaurant was Tomatillos, which is just between the hotel and the parking lot. I never went there, but another guest said the menu looked great. The two other restaurants and the Sports Bar are first-come, first-served. People reserve chairs as early as 6am around the pool. That happens everywhere. At the beach, there are fewer reserved chairs probably because that is where the numerous vendors are. I did not see any staff removing belongings that were left for a long time. Bring a sweater and jacket because it can be cold in the evenings and mornings, and Bella California and Carbon are fully open-air – as is the Pool Bar. I had to walk to one of the Walmart’s (18 minutes) to buy a fleece hoodie. The ocean temperature is noticeably cooler than at Puerto Vallarta and Cancun. Overall I enjoyed my stay, and will be back.

Love this place!
Great place! I’m not usually into all inclusive, but this was an awesome place to stay! The rooms are amazing, and so clean! W rented a king size ocean view which was larger than some of the other rooms. I loved the decor and the patio was so great with the hammock built in! Pools were huge and there were a lot of chairs. The kids pool is a good place to go to take a sun break as it is shaded. The food at all the restaurants was delicious. The staff was so professional. Way to go!

Excellent location and friendly, helpful staff.
If I could give the resort a 4.9 rating, I would. Situated right on the beach with a view of the ocean and Land's End, it's a 1/2 hr. walk down the beach to the marina. All rooms have balconies - many are ocean view! All but one of the front desk folks were friendly and helpful. Isabel (concierge) was genuine and kind and went above and beyond to find me a Zumba class to attend in town. A shout out also to Efraim (bellhop) and Bismark (concierge) for their warmth and assistance. I was impressed by the high caliber of the dancers performing in the evening themed reviews. I especially enjoyed the Latin Fusion dance (Mexican Fiesta) and the Michael Jackson impersonator. The only downside was the noise from the construction being done on the property. There was music playing most of the time, but if you wanted some peace and quiet, there was a quieter spot with lounge chairs near the bathrooms. I appreciated that we weren't required to pay for an all-inclusive meal plan (currently $120/day). We saved a lot of money by having breakfast in the room, eating out once a day and eating leftovers.

Our Second Home
Villa del Palmar is one of those places you must experience to believe. The food is top notch. The service is top tier. Whether you're there for a vacation getaway, celebrate an occasion, or just because, VDP won't let you down. I will say they have great restaurants that caters to those that love variety. Also, there are plenty of things you can do both on and off the resort that staff can help accommodate....massages, fishing, sailing, golf...you name it, they can do it. The entertainment staff is one of the main reasons we go back year after year. My wife and I have "adopted" a few of them. Alana, Chloe, and Alberto are excellent at what they do. During the day, you'll see them poolside engaging with guests playing fun games, doing water aerobics, or stopping by for a simple chat. At night is where they truly shine. Each play a part in different musicals that gets the crowd feeling good. I appreciate all of the folks given what they do on the daily, but these three fine souls go above and beyond to ensure people are satisfied. For the servers, Carlos is outstanding and greets you as if you've known him for years. In their sportsbar, one server Ira (her name is longer, but I forget what it was 😌) was fantastic to us and she became one of our close friends. Needless to say, a few tears were shed saying goodbye on our last day there before coming home. That's how much this place, and its members, meant to us! I recommend Villa del Palmar be the place to come to when you're in Cabo. But don't just take my word for it - go check it out for yourself!
