    Heaven on Earth.

As I sit in the wonderful French restaurant at this heavenly resort, I feel so thankful to be here. This is our fourth trip to this resort. I love it here. The grounds, the rooms, the pools, the food. I have to say, however, that it’s the staff that bring me back each year. There are many employees who have been here each time I visit. I want to spend my time and money where employees like to work. I love it here.

Second try. Still good overall, but some improvements can be made still.

I wrote an extensive review from our first stay here one year ago. Here, I will just update what is different from that review. Improvements made: The wifi seems to have greater coverage now. We had pretty reliable connection throughout the property, especially the pool area. This is nice if you stream your music to your ear buds. The beach was also cleared of seaweed frequently! Nice for walking along the beach and stepping in the water. Areas needing improvement: As a gay couple, we are keenly aware of hotels that do not discriminate who their guests are! Upon check-in, once again, we were relegated to a room with two beds. The first time this happened, we were told that, despite having reserved a king bed, there was no guarantee. To have it happen a second time in a row seems more than coincidental. The net result here is that you send a message, whether you intend to or not, that your guests are not fully accepted for who they are. Our room was also a handicapped accessible room. Seems like you should hold that room aside for guests who might need it? Compounding this further were two restaurant experiences in which both "water boys" seemed off put by our presence, commenting quietly to our waiters (both of whom seemed perfectly comfortable helping us) and gesturing towards us with laughs. Now, this could be us being overly sensitive. But it happened in two separate restaurants, and if you look at my history of hotel reviews, you won't find any comments from me of this nature in the hundreds of reviews I've written...because we've never experienced this before. Moving on, the a/c situation is unchanged from the last visit. Though set all the way to the coolest setting, it barely kept up. Fortunately, there is also a ceiling fan that can be used to make up for what the a/c lacked. The hotel needs to find a way to help their a/c units be more efficient. Other hotels in equally warm/humid areas are able to do this. Lastly, we found the food quality to be good overall. But not exceptional. Our memories of our first visit were that the food quality was a tad better. This go-around, we found everything to be acceptable! But again, not top-notch as most people describe it as. Perhaps we are spoiled by our local dining options at home? I'm not sure. But for all of the raving posts on here, we expected excellent food quality. A few were. But most were good to very good. Otherwise, I stand behind my comments in the first review and I hope that the hotel can receive both as constructive feedback that can be addressed. Should the hotel be willing to adjust to the above recommendations, I think this can be a truly spectacular place! But as a gay couple, we received several (subjective) "messages" that we weren't quite as welcomed as other guests. To be clear, this only occurred by two to three hotel employees. But all it takes is one off-putting experience! Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

Rainy trip but made the most of it.

Love how the resort was laid out. walking through the jungle paths to get to the different areas was awesome. The pools were great, something for everyone. quiet areas or party areas a plenty! It rained the entire time we were there unfortunately but that being said we were always able to find chairs. The food was fantastic everywhere we went other than the mexican restaurant. We aren't seafood eaters and EVERY dish had some sort of fishy component to it. We ended up leaving after having just one bite of appetizers and went to a different place to eat. My only complaint other than the rain from our trip is the gym - the equipment could all use updating/expanding. I get it...people say you are on vacation but fitness is important to some people. Loved that they kept the temp in the gym COLD though!

    Best resort ever!

This was my 10th trip to Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya and I continue to be amazed with everything about this resort! The staff, rooms, drinks and food are wonderful! We were thrilled to talk with Dora on our first full day at the resort. She is such a ray of sunshine!! We spent most of our time at the pool and Miguel was phenomenal at taking care of our group of 10 all day, everyday. I can’t wait to return “home” for the next visit!!

Not Worth the Hype – Disappointing Experience

We were upgraded to a Silver room (1115), but it was anything but a luxury experience. The room had a moldy smell, a clogged toilet, lights that turned on by themselves all night, and an AC that kept shutting off. Mosquitoes in the room made things worse. One day, even after leaving the “Please clean” sign and being out from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, no one came to clean the room until the evening when I just wanted to rest. Instead of a relaxing vacation, we had sleepless nights and poor service. I would not come back or recommend this hotel.
