Westin of choice for Detroit
I booked my stay on the app as I was commuting to the area of Southfield. Once I arrived my keys were ready upon my arrival. The front desk team recognized my elite status and gladly gave me a room upgrade, which I definitely appreciated. I love the loyalty recognition. The check in experience was swift and easy. The staff member at the front desk was courteous, friendly, and professional. The property is well maintained and within the high standards I expect from the Westin brand. The rooms were spotless and clean, modern, no rank smells, and well maintained. The bed was remarkably comfortable as most Westin beds are. The shower was like being in a spa. Close highway access and easy to commute to. It's about a 25 min drive from downtown Detroit with reasonable prices. I will highly recommend this property to others and whenever I am in the area I look forward to staying at the Westin Southfield again.
Not too pleased
This is the first time that I've stayed here and was slightly displeased. One of the pillows was dirty and I didn't realize until my last day that the bed's backboard was dirty with white spots on it. I can only imagine what that may have been. Please the certain to sanitize your rooms for the next guest. Also, one of the front desk attendant whom name I failed to obtain had a bit of an attitude. She wears a weave and bright red lipstick. There were two people. Therefore, two lines as far as I was concerned. A guy was standing in the other line when i walked up to her line. She happen to complete her business with the guest in front of me first before her colleague finished with her guest where the guy was waiting. I stepped up to check in and she interrupted me by pointing the the guy in the other line as being there first. Not a problem. However, please have ropes or a sign displayed so that people can know the intent is to have a single line. The tone in which she spoke to me was off putting but instead of making a scene I cooperated. Not sure if she intended to sign a bit rude but it came off that way nevertheless.
Clean hotel. Our room was spacious. Our check in agent was very kind. She accommodated my request to give us two rooms right next door to one another. No complaints. Near everything in Southfield that we needed!!!!!! Please put directional signs in the parking garage though!
A little rocky at first, but they stepped up.
I had a few unpleasant bumps, but overall the things turned out well. One major issue, but I'm sure it will be short lived, is they had elevator repairs going on which made for longs waits (up to 30 mins) during peak times. This was compounded by the fact that there were numerous large meetings going (ours had 200 people alone), so the volume of people needing elevators was a bit troublesome. They did open up the service elevator for guests to use, which helped a little bit. I did express my concerns to the staff about my concerns/issues and the General Manager was very prompted in responding. It was clear that they do listen and value your input. Overall a good, comfortable hotel.
Always a Solid Stay
I stay here regularly when I am in the area. My last stay was over Christmas. The staff was friendly and helpful (as always). There was some maintenance going on in the gym, however there was an alternative gym set up and it was very nice. The rooms are a little bit dated, but still clean and pleasant. I also love that they have a parking garage. Super easy to park and get into the hotel, even with extreme weather. There are a lot of local food options nearby, many that are walk able or deliver.
