    The Alarm.

The hotel was nice and the staff where friendly, they had a mini Starbucks, but it did not have all of the real things a star bucks would have. In the pool room whenever the hot tub was on, there was a really annoying what sounded like an alarm going off, and it was super annoying. The pool deck felt outdated, and I wish there was no alarm noise going of when the hot tub was on. The rooms where standard, and same with the hotel, the only downside is the pool, and that alarm.

    Will Stay Here Again.

Westin We stayed at the Westin for a short weekend and we enjoyed our stay! We had an executive king room which seemed very spacious. The bathroom was very big and had lots of room. We declined housekeeping and requested extra towels. Extra towels were brought up immediately! We ordered room service twice and the food was excellent (Greek salad, wings, Smokehouse burger) all delicious! Every staff member we encountered greeted us and were very polite. The bathroom was a bit worn with pealing caulk around the toilet and inside the tub. However, I will definitely stay here, again!

Old, Not Clean, Horrible Breakfast and Limited All-Day Dining.

The location of The Westin isn't bad. You can be in downtown Detroit in 15 minutes and to most places in the suburbs also within 15 minutes. Outside of the location, I'm struggling to say anything good about the property. Zero Bonvoy elite status recognition, unless you consider a spin of a tacky wheel at check-in to win bonus points or something else recognition. That's tacky and just unprofessional. No welcome letter or pre-arrival email. I was never addressed by name. I was actually somewhat scolded by the Front Desk for attempting to check-in before the appointed time. I was never thanked for staying.  At check-in I was also never offered any assistance with luggage or directed to the elevator. There was no bellman.  The Westin is supposed to be a full-service hotel. But lunch is only served from 11 am to 1 pm Monday to Friday. There's no food between 1 and 4 pm and no lunch or daytime food during the weekend. So much for all-day dining. Closing the restaurant and bar for 3 hours in the afternoon makes no sense whatsoever. At least keep the bar open.  They have valet parking but there seems to be only one valet attending who is running everywhere. It can be a considerable wait to drop off your car or retrieve the keys. No newspapers in the lobby or in the restaurant. Why can't you have some Detroit newspapers? Or even the Visit Detroit magazine? The small gift shop off the Front Desk didn't have any Diet Pepsi for more than a day. No wine.  My room, a king on the 12th floor, is supposedly an executive room. There is no executive or club lounge. There was also nothing in the room to suggest that it was a special category or somehow any different than a standard, entry-level room. No robe. No slippers. No corkscrew. No mini-bar. The room itself was very tired. Peeling wallpaper. Heavily scratched and scuffed furniture. Outside the TV from 2016 and maybe some wallpaper or art, the bones of the room looked a good 15-20 years old. Especially the bathroom and the furniture. Some of the furniture looks like it was refinished instead of replaced. Accessible electrical and USB outlets are few and far between. The outlets on the lamp at the nightstand were stripped and couldn't support a power plug for my laptop. I had to use the outlets on the floor.   In terms of housekeeping and cleanliness, the room looked superficially clean but a closer inspection revealed otherwise. There were what looked like food crumbs and even coins under the furniture. Face cloths had hair on them (presumably from hair on the countertop). There was a long strand of hair on the countertop in the bathroom. Individual toiletries have been replaced by wall-mounted dispensers. So instead of getting your own shampoo or conditioner you get a dispenser that countless other guests have used. The dispensers are not tamper proof either. The dispensers were also mostly empty. Only one bar of soap was provided at the sink basin. No soap for the tub-shower.  The Lobby Bar has zero atmosphere. No music and the lights were bright. Turn the lights down and get some better music. I also thought it was a weird location. The Lobby Bar should be in the actual lobby. It's possible to arrive, check-in at the Front Desk, and get in an elevator to your room without knowing there's a Lobby Bar. The Front Desk also doesn't promote the bar or restaurant to guests at check-in and I didn't see anything in the room like a menu or in-room dining menu. The wine list at the Lobby Bar is mediocre grocery store wines. The Chalk Hill chardonnay is drinkable. But there was no champagne by the glass. The wine list and menu themselves was in plastic or some sort of lamination. It looked and felt cheap. I wanted a caesar salad but there wasn't a caesar salad. How does a hotel restaurant not have a caesar salad on the menu? At breakfast, the only option is a buffet. No ala carte. With the exception of eggs made to order, the selection and quality of the buffet was about the same as the free breakfast buffet at a Holiday Inn Express or Hampton Inn. Eggs that looked powdered, bacon, sugary cereals, sugary granola, yogurt, and oatmeal with some fruit/berries. I did not see any smoked salmon, cheeses, or meats. Juices were sugary canned or bottled juices. No fresh squeezed juices or smoothies. You can get a better breakfast at McDonald's or Starbucks for a lot less money.  All things considered, The Westin is a below-average Westin. Not only is it not at the standard you expect of a Westin but it's not really competitive with some of the other new or newly renovated hotels in the suburbs. And with poor F&B options. you're better off saving money by staying at a Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn or a similar hotel.

    Worst Westin experience

Our worst Westin service experience ever. We stayed at this hotel during a business travel for a week. Our first room had a problem with bathroom sink. You could not turn on cold water, the tap was stuck. I called the reception and informed about the problem. The person told to pack up everything, leave the room and come downstairs so that they can give us another room. I went down to the reception to pick up the keys for the new room. The person at the reception told me that I should go up the room and they will send a technician up to see what the problem is. I said that the person on the call told something else and that is why I am here. The person said that it is the procedure and I should go up and wait, since they cannot assign a new room otherwise. I got angry and told that I will not leave until I have a new room. Then another person approached from the back of the reception and intervened. Apparently that was the person I talked on the phone, and apparently she was the manager. She said to go ahead and give another room. The next day in the new room, we noticed that the bathroom sink is clogged and bathroom shower was leaking big time. We called and they send a technician. He did his best to get some water running on the sink and fixed the shower. However, in couple of days later we had the same issue with the sink. I went to the reception in the evening and informed about the problem and asked if they can send a technician up next day when we are not in the room. The answer was funny. The person at the reception said that I should call in the morning and inform again, since the two current persons at the reception will not be here in the morning. I said, if they cannot notify the technical department to look at it in the morning. Her answer was even funnier. She said that they will send an email but they are not sure if the technical department will read it or not. What a terrible service from a Westin. In addition to all the hotel is quite old and needs a renovation, at the least new carpets, which are dark and looks dirty. The only good thing with the hotel is that it is pet friendly, as we had our new puppy enjoy the stay with us.
