    Westin at Playa Conchal

This is our second time staying here and we mostly love it. Rooms are spacious, pool is great, bars and bartenders are great, staff is wonderful and friendly. My only complaint is the food. Buffett (Mitra market) was okay. We wanted to try the Asian restaurant (Bamboo) and it was at least a two hour wait-I wish they did reservations. I ordered a meat appetizer that was cold there. We also ate at the steak restaurant. One night we were told it was a two hour wait so we decided to try it on another night, got in line 30 minutes before the restaurant opened. For activities we booked with Eric G (blue Google shirt on the beach right outside the hotel). We did the Rio Celeste Tour, Palo Verde River cruise, ATV, and jet skis. Cristian was our guide for the first two and he was really knowledgeable. Part of Rio Celeste tour included a walk through an area known for sloths and we lucked out seeing a young sloth just a couple of feet in front of us. It was amazing. My family also enjoyed snorkeling in the beach right outside the resort. I preferred the pool (and pool bar).

    Best hotel experience

Second time at Westin! Love it! So relaxing! Check out the vendors on the beach very helpful massages and La Leona waterfall excursion with Eric G and the blue shirt. He booked the best vendors for us. We will definitely return to the Westin playa conchal. This hotel is wonderful

    America in Costa Rica

The entry and lobby of this Westin property was beautiful and luxurious—reminded me of the gorgeous Westin Hapuna Beach in Hawaii. Our bungalow was next to a small stream across from the golf course. The first thing we noticed is a number of large iguanas right outside our bungalow. My six year old spotted half a dozen of them right through our windowed-door crawling around and over a fence. She screamed. Later I screamed when I saw a raccoon staring at me from through the same windowed door —just waiting there as if he were showing up for tea! I guess we should have realized what lodging in an animal preserve would mean. You will see many of the staff wearing t-shirts indicating “don’t feed the animals” but the overall sense was less adventurous safari, and more animals of the “root through wasted human food garbage” variety. As for service, the people who work here are overall kind and attentive but don’t be surprised by the occasional bartender who ignores you or seems to hate his job. It is generally not five-star service. The lines for the restaurants could mean a 40 minute wait or being turned away altogether without apologies. The sofa bed is terrible and not befitting for even a child. The beach is crammed with vendors and massage tables and locals selling cocktails and bracelets. The air in the part of the beach outside the hotel was frequently filled with the smell of diesel from jet skis and the sound of their revving motors.. They ran out of umbrellas and there’s no place near the beach to get towels. Towels for the pool and beach are only available from a single counter at the activity center. There is no bar or food service at the beach. But the water temperature was perfect for swimming! And there is some decent snorkeling near the north end of the beach. The pool is typical of large resorts with too many people and not enough chairs and shade. If you don’t get out early you will have a hard time getting a lounge chair anywhere near the pool. The gym is nice and we joined a few of the family activities and they’re a nice touch. Overall, it is a good value for a family who wants a beach vacation

    Overall Great Experience

We just returned from a week at the Westin. Pros: Staff is very helpful. Our concierge Pablo was so friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the kindness and availability of staff to help. Check in and check out was remarkably easy. The pools are beautiful and clean. The monkeys in the morning were such a delight. The food was fresh and delicious. It was nice to walk the grounds in the morning and on the adjoining trail. Cons: At times service at the restaurants was a little slow. As long as you know that you are going in with a dining experience instead of just eating, you will relax and unwind. Some of the beach vendors can be a little pushy but it's a minor inconvenience. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. We would definitely return.

    best vacay ever!

My family stayed at the Westin for a week and had an excellent experience. The service was top-notch, everyone was friendly, and our room was very clean. We ate at several of the on-site restaurants and the food was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive, and housekeeping did a great job every day. Outside the resort, local sellers offer massages and tours, and we found them very friendly and professional. We booked a day tour with Erik G (look for his blue Google shirt, you can find him online easily). He coordinated everything for us. We went to see sloths and waterfalls with Jefferey as our guide—it was a wonderful hike and an amazing day. Jefferey was knowledgeable and friendly, making the tour extra special. Erik was great at setting it all up smoothly. Highly recommend both the resort and using Erik to plan your adventures. Thank you to everyone who made our trip so memorable. May God bless you all with happiness!
