Always Verify your room before cancel date with this place !
Great location, not great hotel in terms of service or reliability to what you booked. In short, this was an important vacation event for my daughter and I so I booked an upgraded balcony suite/room over a month in advance (and it was not cheap). I did this to make the trip special and it was confirmed. When I got there, I was sent to a handicapped room which covered all handicaps (meaning set up for deaf, blind and disabled). Needless to say I did not book such a room (it did not match any of the photos of the room I booked (False advertising for sure and misleading !!!)) and it was not the room advertised or what was confirmed (bait and switch). I just did not want to stay in a room with no tub, super low counters and beds about 1 foot off the floor as this is not what I was confirmed. When I went back to the front desk to say I was sent to a handicapped room they told me all other balcony rooms were occupied so it was this or a basic room. Why not tell me this when I checked in instead of making me go all the way up to the room with 6 bags and then back down. I asked if they assigned me this room when I booked as I got no notice and they said sometimes we need to put people there so we just do it ? Anyway, the only room they had left (no upgrades even if I wanted to pay) was a small room with no view and they gave me the rate as it I booked that day (which was high) and not the rate for that room when I booked mine (So I overpaid because if I chose this room, which I did not want, at the time of my original booking it would have been less than what I had to pay). Also, despite not giving me the room in the photos (and description) I booked I could not just cancel and go somewhere else, so they got me. Anyway, The staff did not seem to really care at all as they were sold out, so why would they I guess. I just thought they should not confirm a regular room and then force me into a handicapped room or nothing (which I would have got if they did not say how lucky I was to get the small room at the highest rate). What is the point of booking in advance with this hotel. Nice location, but there are many others in that location that have nice rooms also (especially for the price I ended up paying). Oh, forgot the only self park option is a high priced garage with spaces for prius sized cars only.. Never again for this hotel for me, but if you go and reserve a nice room be sure to keep calling every day leading up to your arrival to be sure they do not assume you will be okay with what you did not reserve. Lastly, I guess Marriott gold for life is kind of meaningless at this place as they did not care at all.

Currently staying at this hotel and as an Ambassador Elite member with well over 2000 nights across the Marriott system I find it increasingly frustrating when properties are allowed to totally ignore the program commitments as outlined by Marriott. Their breakfast offering is a weak excuse for a convenience store with "Grab and Go" type options. Very few Renaissance properties are without a lounge (this one does not have one) and when that is the case the default option is breakfast in a restaurant. This property has a restaurant (and breakfast room service) but does not choose to make it available to elite members. This property's substitution for the Marriott standard is a coffee bar with very poor offerings. The hotel is old and in disrepair (elevators not working), the staff distant and unpleasant and rooms are a bit disgusting. The bathroom in our room appears to have mold growing in the shower (see pics). I feel sorry for someone who makes a decision to host a wedding or other group event at this hotel, as I expect they'll be embarrassed by the outcome At $400+ per night (not including $90 "Destination" and $6 "Marketing" Fees) you'll be best served to steer clear of this property. Not up to Renaissance standards. Thx Tim

A special shoutout to Lorie Busch for helping me and my friend out so much during our stay! She made us multiple restaurant reservations, and sat down with us to plan out an entire day of our trip with our budget, dietary restrictions, and ideas in mind! She and all the other staff at the hotel we interacted with are so lovely and kind, and the hotel itself is gorgeous, with very comfortable and clean rooms! Would definitely come back to the Lindy when I return to Charleston!!!
