    Mistakes made

The hotel and staff were ok but when we checked in they had booked my wife and I in a room with two double beds. They claimed that that was what was requested. Not. And later a met another couple who had the same problem. Two double beds. They got stuck with theirs. I was lucky to get a room change. If not this would have had a very negative effect on our holiday. Then I parked my rental car in their overnight parking garage for one night. The next morning I couldn't get out. The gate machine wouldn't take my credit card or room key card and wanted $145 for a $64 ticket. A car behind me had the same problem except they were being asked for $250. We had to phone someone to come down and let us out. When I informed the hotel front desk I was told by the valet that they knew about the problem but it wasn't their department. Manager only. So I talk to a check in supervisor. Same answer. I told them to tell the manager. I shouldn't have to waste more of my day doing it for them.

    Great Location, Room Dated

My husband and I stayed 5 night at Hilton Hawaiian Village in the KailiaTower the first week of January 2023. I booked an Ocean View room on the 21st floor that faced the ocean. Fantastic view of the Pacific. The decor was old and dated, very 90s. I expected more from Hilton. The room has a small refrigerator, but no microwave. There was daily housekeeping, so that was nice. I suppose many folks would be satisfied with this room, but I stayed at Hiltons across the USA and they have all been much nicer that this hotel. I expected the same level of chic and stylish decor that the Hiltons on the mainland display.

    Great for families

The resort was absolutely beautiful. The people there were extremely nice and the pools / lagoon were the best part of the trip, you could not get my kids out. The food is pricy but CJ’a New York deli was extremely good and worth it.

    Get in line.

From the moment you arrive, the overwhelming message is, "You don't matter." Our package included an airport shuttle. After our 6.5-hour flight, we were excited when we pulled up and saw the lovely landscaping and waterfall sculpture out front. But the shuttle kept going and deposited us in the back, the "servants' entrance," if you will -- a dingy grey garage which led to a door which led to a room of vinyl padded chairs that looked like a 1960s bus station. There was no greeting. Just an institutional sign that said "From here it is at least a five-minute walk to the check-in desk. Call if you need help." Followed by an 800 number. We hauled our bags down a long passageway, then wound our way through hordes of people to the check-in area. There were lines upon lines, winding in and out of roped areas. It was hard to tell where to stand. I told my family to find a seat somewhere and I got in one of the lines. You should plan to spend at least 45 minutes of your vacation here, standing in line to check in. There were crowds like this all day, every day. It would have been nice to have employees circulating with trays of drinks, or flower leis, or something to let you know they saw you and appreciated that you were there. But no. Nothing. Just the wait. The "Village" in the hotel's name refers to the collection of 20+-story towers clustered around retail shops, the apparent objective being to cram as many people in as possible and get as much money from them as possible. The "Hawaiian" part of the "Hawaiian Village name, I guess it's technically in Hawaii. And some of the stores were Hawaiian, but chains, like Honolulu Cookie Company and ABC. Not an authentic Hawaiian experience by any means. The check-in person told us our room was in a tower past the Louis Vuitton store and across the street. We hauled our bags through more people, across a busy street and found what we thought was our tower. We went to the 19th floor and realized we were in the wrong tower. We found the correct tower and entered our room, with outdated 90s decor and small, hard beds, each with 3 pillows. We went onto the balcony and discovered some previous guest's half-eaten pre-packaged pink sugary breakfast roll on the ground next to a chair. We called housekeeping to let them know. The breakfast roll stayed there for two days. "Get in line" is the theme here. Whether you want Starbucks in the morning or beach towels (you have to go to a beach hut for these, and the beach hut also sells snorkel gear and floaties, so there are long lines and it takes a long time. Also, the beach towels are really just crappy grey bath towels. Very small. Get twice as many as you think you need). The beach is also wall-to-wall people. This "resort" is a crowded place where you're clearly just another dollar amount on their spreadsheet. You'll feel it again when you check out -- don't expect the employee to ask how your stay was and if you enjoyed yourself. They don't. They really don't care. We enjoyed Waikiki, but we didn't enjoy this property at all. I felt unappreciated and ripped off.

    Beach and Sleep

I loved staying here. It was a bit noisy at night with the band playing by the bar. I loved to be right in the middle of things and in walking distance and having the beach so close. We stayed over Christmas after we got off of our cruise. There are no laundry services, but I believe that there are some nearby like 5 miles away. We did our laundry in the bathtub, but hey it worked. It was also weird that they gave my husband and I two queen beds instead of one king bed. It is a very busy and big hotel so just make sure to plan some time for check in and waiting in lines.
