Sharkys bartender
Great service from Nicolas Gonzalez at Sharkys Pool Bar! Always happy to serve all day, everyday! Food is good, rooms are alright, entertainment group pretty fun. Beach is nice, but lots of public sellers constantly trying to sell you something

A pleasant holiday
This resort doesn’t claim to be 5 star, so don’t expect that. What I can say is that it has some good and some not so good things. From the moment we checked in (which was in a private adults only area), Manuel our concierge was absolutely fantastic. He explained everything and set up his number on WhatsApp so we could contact him about anything. Manuel needs a lot of recognition for what he does. This amazing man should be in management. We had an adult only swim out room. This was lovely. There were a couple of issues but nothing that would ruin our experience. There is a lack of draw storage, so take something with you. We took a five tier hanging storage. The shower leaked a little into the toilet but once you realised we just put a spare bath mat down. The rooms are getting a bigger renovation in time so I’m sure these points will be dealt with. The adults only buffet had a few issues when we first arrived with the staff having no direction as to who was doing what. This was very frustrating and people walked out. This was brought to the attention of the Management (by our friends) who did change the way things worked. I would like to make a huge shout out to Zoila. She was a great host in the kaleidoscope restaurant and gave direction to everyone. This lady should be in a training roll or management. We didn’t use the main pool in the adult only as it was more like an 18-30’s holiday. We all like a party but this was not the pool to have it in. This is something that should be looked at. It always makes us rethink using the pool when half the people never leave it all day, so I can only imagine what they are doing in there. We did walk past on one occasion and I don’t want to guess as to what was in the pool but it was yellow. This pool should be closed off at 6pm so as the people with rooms along side it get some peace as people where in there until 9pm making a lot of noise. A couple were moved to a room next to us as they complained about the noise level. We all go on holiday to have a good time but it’s also about relaxing. The beach was stunning although the speakers around the beach are too noisy. When you are trying to listen to the sea and all you hear is the same music over and over again it start to ruin the experience. The Bali beds are to be paid for as an extra but most of the time these were empty as no one wants to pay $60. A good idea would be to include a Bali bed as a perk of the swim out rooms. Another name to mention is Estaphanie. What a polite young lady and very attentive. We spent a couple of days at the spa which was amazing. Very reasonably priced and great massages. It has its own pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. It’s a great place for some R n R. The resort has a little way to go with some areas but all in all we had a great holiday.

Respectable hotel
Me and my partner stayed at sunscape coco for our first holiday in the Dominican Republic. We got a very good deal through BA. This was a relatively new hotel so we were optimistic but had been slightly put off with the odd bad review, but we thought we would just see for ourselves. Overall, the hotel is very pleasant with a welcoming lobby area with welcome drinks. However, the lobby area does not have AC and is extremely sweaty. We decided to upgrade to the adults only section of the hotel as this was mentioned upon checking in. We have always liked the idea of adults only so we thought we would upgrade. This was approx £400 per couple for the honeymoon suite room. If I’m being honest the perks are not justified by the price as you can just use the adults only section without upgrading so I think this needs to be monitored, there were also children in the adults only area on the odd occasion which is not acceptable. We did wait for about 45 minutes for our room to be ready and taken over with the luggage which was disappointing. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the kaleidoscope restaurant was very good. All other restaurants were a good experience and food was pleasant. Ultimately we enjoyed our stay but would like to mention a few points that we think would be of importance for future guests and hotel staff. It appears that attention to detail within the rooms and parts of the hotel, restaurants etc could be improved. Just to add that classy finish. We noticed there were leaks in the rooms and dodgy paint work and just general maintenance throughout the hotel. Overall, I would recommend this hotel as it is very pleasant for the price and does give you that relaxing environment if you are away from the children.

4 days was enough
Overall, Sunscape Coco was a pleasant resort with plenty of areas to escape to if you wanted to avoid the main pool and beach. They had designated spaces for families and adults only, which was nice. I found the pools to be quite warm and not the cleanest, so we opted to spend more time at the beach. Our room was cleaned daily by a lovely housekeeper named Elba (I believe), who checked in each morning to see if we needed anything. However, the shower didn't drain well, and the air conditioning in our room wasn't as strong as I would have liked. Navigating the restaurants was a bit confusing at first until another guest mentioned an app we could download. Not all restaurants were open each day, so it was essential to check the app daily for availability. Fortunately, there was a nice variety of dining options, allowing us to try something different each night. I booked a spa service with two friends, and I was quite disappointed with my experience. While my friends seemed to enjoy their treatments, mine fell extremely short. We all opted for the after-sun aloe treatment, but after a 45-minute wait, I learned that another guest had extended their service. This information should have been communicated at check-in to save me the wait or allow me to reschedule. When I finally went into the treatment room, I noticed there was an accordion door (that didn’t close properly) with another guest on the other side. The esthetician had me get settled and comfortable on the bed and when she returned she had me sit up, being exposed, so she could place plastic underneath. This could have been something she had prepared. I was prepared that the aloe would be cold, but after she applied everything I was left covered with wet towels for 40 minutes and felt freezing. Once she returned, I was told to shower (on the side where the other guest was) and then given back one of those wet towels to dry off. I laid trembling on the bed while she applied lotion and completed the service. There was no treatment to this, the lotion application came with a sped up massage. I felt her rush for being late and in result I wasted $125US and 2.5 hours of time for a 50 minute service. The entertainment was good some nights, they had a show each night followed by an after party. The shows were entertaining enough, but the after party was done in the lobby area and not worth sticking around for. Most of the nights they had karaoke, which I am not a fan of. There was no disco or anywhere you could go and dance. Additionally, the music all day and evening was Latin music that none of us knew, which made it very hard to get into. All in all, 4 days 5 nights was just enough time to get away at this resort at this time of year.
