    Beautiful

We just got back from a great week at Sunscape Akumal. My husband & I frequently travel and of every location this staff was by far the friendliest! They have been dealt a bad hand with shutdowns from Covid then 2 hurricanes the past month they had to fix up and not once did it stop the smiles on their faces! Carlos & Romeo keep things fun with the activities daily. Make sure to check out water aerobics daily too! Juan, Ismal, Rafael, Fernando, and Jorge were some of the bartenders we had and they all had a blast! They had fun serving drinks and getting to know guests. Feeling tired? Noelly in Coco Cafe whips up the best coffee drinks. I didn’t catch any servers name but every server we had was great during the week too. Service was prompt and friendly. We didn’t have a single bad meal during our trip. We booked Sunclub and our room was on the 2nd floor, my parents also had Sunclub and they were 1st floor with a patio and large bathtub in the room. We did not book any excursions but with the reef and snorkeling right off the shore you won’t need that, just pack some swim shoes and snorkel gear and go. If you forgot, don’t worry the gift shop has it for a very reasonable price. We are already ready for our next visit! Thank you Sunscape!

    Budget Friendly ALL inclusive Hotel

4 day weekend family of 4, 2 adults & 2 kids, double bed tropical view room for $375 all inclusive. I’m a member of “Unlimited” hotel chain, I’ve seen more than a few of their hotels, great service, beautiful rooms, great restaurants & So when I arrived to Sunscape Akumal everything seemed great! But when I got to the room, I realized that this was their “budget friendly hotel”, with some restrictions on “all inclusive”. This did not include room service, the rooms mini bar is available with few waters, 2 small beers & 2 sodas. After that it will be restocked but $18 charged of anything else is consumed. It’s ALL inclusive but they are not really open all the time, they have certain hours for different restaurants, at one point they close between breakfast & lunch so theirs no food, just for a bit tho, but still waiting for it to open when your really hungry kinda sucks. Tips welcomed! Kinda awkward if your not able to give a tip, they do linger a bit to see if your going to tip, if you do, they will recognize you next time & give you great service! If not, it’s okay, you still get “okay service”. Few activities but not visible so didn’t even know they had any until I saw them in progress. Rooms are okay, kinda reminds me of motel 6, but just a bit nicer, my AC was leaking water, kinda sucked but they sent someone to fix it the next day, “FREE” city activities will be provided, like XCARET them park, Tulum ruins, chiche Itza pyramids or swimming with Dolphins, but you must attend a “60 minute presentation” (more like 120 min) at one of their hotels, to sell you $15,000+ (dollars) membership for perks are their hotel chains. Pools are cool & nice, 3-4 pools (main area) & dinosaur theme Pool/play ground for kids, only pools open, not the food/drinks bar, no snack bars at all, Tiki Taco, had great fish tacos, very small ceviche serving, Damarios Pizza, & 1 adult only restaurant but I saw kids in there. Didn’t love “windows” buffet, it was okay. 3 drink bars, alcoholic drinks a bit watered down, still okay tho. The beach is beautiful but small, overall the hotel is small as well but all great value for those on budget! Rent a car in advance as much as possible!!! Car should be $45 for a 4 day weekend, drive your self, GPS is available & easy to find your hotels!!! They tried to charge $170 dollars for ride to my hotel. This way you have flexibility to go & come as needed, including buying souvenirs!! There’s a store called Chedraui, local super market. Picture frame $59 PESOS! so $3 dollars!! At theme park $20-$35 dollars they have magnets, liquor, tshirts, much more!!!

    Very Fun Vacation

This resort made my first time in Mexico great! The food was amazing and the workers were very nice and helpful. There weren’t very many people there because of Covid, so that made it even better. Carlos Burelo was on the entertainment team, and he did activities such as Spanish lessons, karaoke, and volleyball in the pool. Carlos is very good at his job, and he made my first trip to Mexico one I will always remember! Thank you Carlos and everyone else who works at Sunscape Akumal!

    Do Not Recommend

Upon checking in we were disappointed with the staff here, lack of service and general accommodations. Hotel staff preys on American tourists and we personally witnessed our hotel lobby bell boy get paid from the taxi he hired for us, over charging for a simple 3-5 minute drive! The beach is the best part of this hotel. I would not recommend staying here to any of my friends or family. Be careful and aware if you decide to visit.
