Do not stay here! Dangerous property!
This resort is very old and is in need of updates. I was willing to overlook most of that because the staff was friendly and the drinks were very good. However, on our 3rd night there, our bathroom flooded due to poor drainage in the tub and non-existent drainage in the floor "drain" in the shower/toilet room. The room flooded and my friend slipped and fell against the vanity ripping her earlobe in half and tearing her ear up the back. She required 14 stitches at the hospital in Playa Del Carmen. This was scary, to say the least, for 2 women. We had to go to the hospital in a medic van and then take a taxi back at 11pm. The hotel staff was unconcerned about our safety and the cost of this. The hotel refused to pay any of the expenses, saying it was our fault the room flooded. (I guess we should have reported the poor drainage on the 1st day). They had my friend sign a bunch of papers while she was bleeding and after she hit her head pretty hard and apparently one of them released the hotel of all liability. Had I been thinking straight and not dealing with my teenage daughter who was freaking out about me having to leave the resort, I would have tried to translate the forms before she signed them. I understand that accidents happen, but their straight out refusal to do anything was unacceptable. I will not be staying at a Sunscape, Secrets or Dreams if this is how they treat their guests. Not to mention that there are hazards everywhere. ADA compliance has been poorly retrofitted and if you are not sure footed then this is not the place for you. The shower has a very high sided bath tub to step out of with no handle to help. The sidewalks are uneven and there are pieces of tile or concrete missing all over (many tripping hazards). I am an in-shape 50 year old and I was always carefully watching where I walked. Food was just OK. Drinks were great. Staff was friendly but they were very understaffed. This is not worth the price and this is for sure a 2 star resort at very best. If you are on a budget (we were due to young adults paying their own way), then you can find a better place that is safer and closer to Cancun.
Wonderful and Enjoyable from all aspects!
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we had an absolute fantastic time! My husband and I were there for our anniversary in July for 11 days. Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by the staff with a cold beverage in hand. Our room wasn't ready yet, so we were able to put our bags by the front desk and wander around the resort to discover the place. The layout of the resort is very logical and works well. There is a pool by the beach for the 'partiers', then another pool that was more for the family with older children, and then another area for the families with the smaller and younger children. No matter, anyone's situation, there was a place for them. We continued to look and the resort is easy to navigate and find your way around. Once our room was ready we settled into a nice air conditioned room with a huge king size bed. There was ample furniture for our belongings, and a safe inside the closet for our passports and credit cards. The bathroom was a nice size with a lot of toiletries that were replenished on the daily. The food at this resort is absolutely delicious!! The buffet has fresh fruit, vegetables and meats every day and the pico de Gallo is oh so tasty!! We ate at the buffet daily for lunch, and even went back for some dinners. The a la carte restaurants were also delicious. Our favourite is Tiki Taco (we went there 3 times over the course of our stay). The other restaurants are also good: Portofino's (Italian), DaMario's (wood over pizzas) and The Olive Branch (Mediterranean) are all a great choice. The beach is very nice, but with nature comes seaweed, and boy did the resort workers have a daily battle with it. Those guys would clean and clean and clean, to the point of the beach being spotless, only to come back the next day to have it seem as if they didn't work so hard at it the day before. There are multiple cabanas on the beach that are quite comfortable to be on for the day, and the view and sounds of the beach are also very enjoyable. Lastly, the staff. My goodness, they are the best staff we have had at a resort! The cleaning staff was so gracious, the cooking staff and servers are very kind, and the excursion team is awesome (shout out to Roxanna who is hilarious and helped us plan our day trips-she has the best recommendations!). Last, but not least, the entertainment staff isTHE BEST!!!! Gerry, Eddie, Sergio, Luis and Carlos are AMAZING guys! They really made the difference in our trip. We had so much fun with them, from Spanish lessons, to pool volleyball, to pool Zumba and then the evening shows, they are really nice and friendly and FUN!!! Luis gave us a great lesson in Spanish, Gerry is one heck of a dancer, Eddie was always including everyone in the fun, and Carlos made us feel like we were friends for years! It's because of these guys, that we'll be going back with the rest of our family. Thank you for a great trip from Canadian Maria!!!
It was okay…
Overall place is nice if you are on a budget. Didn’t spend too much! But if you are looking for a nice couple’s vacation this is not the place! Better for families and for those on a budget! Only one place for lunch and it was close lots of the time we went went hungry for hours most days! Dinner places are good and staff works very hard the only problem is there is no staff! Room service never comes to room until 3-4 in the day right when you come back to the room to get ready for dinner! Our toilet broke first day we got here. Beach beautiful lots of seaweed however! There were lots of gross stains in the bathtub, on the floor, and on the bed sheets. Really good staff the resort needs work! Also there was a break in while at the hotel people acting like workers stole lots of peoples things in the hotel!
This resort severely needs repair. Cleaning is poor. Staff was unavailable and not overly friendly. The spa is just come converted hotel rooms, not an actual spa. No hydro circuit. Food was ok, not great. I will not be coming back. Bed was not very comfortable and had dried blood stains.
We've stayed in several all inclusives and often don't pay attention too much to the reviews but boy do we regret not listening for this one. We paid more for this vacation than any in the past but it was by far the worst. On the day we got there and went to lunch and noticed the limited selection for the buffet for lunch. But we said its the 1st day and its lunch (that didn't change the entire week). We then went to our rooms and we noticed it was very outdated, bed sheets and towels were stained. We called to get the patio cushions exchanged because they were stained and there were 2 chairs and only 1 cushion....they NEVER came nor addressed...at least say you don't have it or something! Many of the bars had only 1 bartender, so needless to say the service was slow and you could tell some of the workers were overwhelmed so they were a bit less then friendly....many just seemed to be angry. The check in at every restaurant was a bit annoying...it was a little too long of a process. On the one day we chose to go on an excursion, we left at 9 am and returned at 5pm...we found our room door left wide open...luckily we always use the safe and had everything put away. But we paid the price with the mosquitos! There are definitely lots of bugs and animals EVERYWHERE! We also noticed that as the days went the less we got...for example...our mini fridge and toiletries and towels were just right...each day we got less and less. The last couple of days we had ONE towel for three people!!! We tried to call the desk but they never responded so we just used the pool towels. Many areas were left "manless". the bars, the towel stand.... Another concept I didn't understand is signing for towels but having containers to put them in when done...but than threatening you with $40 per towel is loss. Sometimes you didnt know waht activities were going on or they just cancelled/closed things (not even weather related) Half of us ended up with the runs on the last day :/ I wont be back and I don't think I want to vacation with this chain at all!
