Excellent place to stay, some day, NOT now
Our stay at Staybridge Suites in Omaha @ 80th and Dodge had potential to be a great stay, but instead it almost was a disaster... We were planning a trip to Omaha to visit the Zoo and other stuff. Our traveling party consisted of 2 couples and 6 children (total of 10 people). We needed a hotel where you can sleep 5 people per room, and one that had a decent pool for the kids. I did an extended search for and decided Staybridge was our best bet, even though their website said it was undergoing renovations. We have stayed in other hotels that were in the renovation stage, and experience a few inconvenience but not bad. We booked our rooms (2) for Aug 9 & 10, 2024, almost a full month in advance from their own website. When we arrived, on Friday about 4:00pm, I left my family van as i checked in. As I walked into the front door the check-in counter is on your left and straight in front of you is a nice fireplace (I think or maybe just a small rock wall) on both sides was a construction site with an extreme mess and LOUD tools being used. By loud tools i mean like impact wenches, not your normal screw guns or nut drivers. These Noise echo though out the building... There was one gentleman (John P.) manning the desk, he was busy trying to answer the phones and check in the guess. I was VERY disappointed as I walked in and seen and heard the construction mess, and the lack of manpower at the desk. I asked what was going on and the gentleman said this is what we currently have to offer (or something like that). He also said they had a storm go though the area about a week or so ago and it knocked out their oven so all they had to offer for breakfast was Waffles and cereal, and the dinning room was close due to construction, so you can do a GRAB AND GO from a makeshift area in a conference room. I told him this is NOT what I sign up for and as to speak with the manager... He said I AM THE MANGER!!! at this point he became rude and said he would just cancel our reservation and we could go somewhere else. At this point, trying to find a different hotel that meet our needs and without any reservations was not an option. I went outside and discuss the matter with my wife and then returned inside and told him we had no other choice but to stay here but would like a 25% discount, he agreed, and we stayed. We were given 2 rooms on the 3rd floor, the rooms were on opposite ends of the hall. There was renovations being done on several rooms on the 3rd floor also... So you had noise coming from everywhere... The construction workers were courteous and step aside as you passed them in the hallway, although I could not understand the Spanish they were speaking. Construction stopped at 5:00pm, so that is a plus.... As for the rooms... We were very pleased with them. No one in our group had any complaints about the beds. They were clean. The suites we had came as a Kitchenette with a small "full" size refrigerator and a small stove, even a dishwasher... they were equipped with a few pots and pans and real dishes... Since we could not eat a "set down" HOT breakfast at the hotel then we were force to eat out... There just happens to be an excellent breakfast restaurant "JimmysEgg" that is only 300ft to the west. The only problem is, to feed 10 people it cost $149, EACH DAY!!! Staybridge had our email address, WHY DIDN'T THEY EMAIL US BEFORE TIME AND LET US KNOW ABOUT THESE SHORT COMINGS??? To their credit... Day 2 they installed plastic barriers over the construction areas so you do not see inside of it. Nosie was not as loud either... I think after the renovations are done and with NEW management, I think this could be an excellent place to stay, but in the meantime NOT...
