Nice adult only resort
Loved the fact it was adult only. Honestly can't stand kids running around being noisy and such. Food was good, drinks were good and the staff was good. Nothing amazing but just a solid good. The biggest drawback was the pool. The pool had a very rough stucco like finish to it. You had to be super careful or you'd snag your swimsuits on it. So that really sucked. Even the built in loungers and the bar stools were like this. I've got to wonder what idiot thought this was a good idea. Smooth it out and put in tile so people don't ruin their swimsuits. The smokers really sucked around the pool. I really wish they'd outlaw smoking around the pool. First it's a disgusting habit and we don't "enjoy" being around your second hand smoke. We had to move a few times due to this. Casa Velas right there in Puerto Vallarta as designated smoking areas around their pool that are downwind so their smoke won't stay in the pool area and they also strictly enforce their smoking policy.
We booked the preferred junior suite ocean view room on the 8th floor. From the time of our arrival where we were met with champagne to our departure, we received exemplary service from the staff. Everyone was eager to assist with whatever we wanted or needed. We loved the food selections at the various restaurants, though we were turned away at the Asian restaurant allegedly due to our not having a reservation. The restaurant was practically empty on this particular day due to many people leaving as a result of the virus scare. This was disappointing, but we didn’t let this mar our experience. We especially loved the various pools, swim up bar, and the beach being nearby. We actually spent a day in a beachside cabana. It was so relaxing we didn’t want to leave. We had a spa day where we received the best massages ever. This experience was phenomenal. We also caught up on much-needed rest in our beautiful room and at night we ventured out for drinks and musical entertainment. My niece had her wedding here during this time. It was so romantic and beautifully orchestrated. Again, the staff was highly attentive and went above and beyond to make sure this was a wonderful experience for all. Also, the hors d’oeuvres and food were fantastic! My husband and I also celebrated our 40TH wedding anniversary. The staff made sure it was special. This was one of our most favorite vacations. We had such a wonderful experience we are so looking forward to returning.
Stayed at Secrets/Now Amber Feb 20 to March 5 2020
First of all this was our first time using our two premier weeks from the UVC. We had booked at Secrets in March of 2019. When we arrived our room was not ready, long story but they ended up giving us a room on the Now Amber side. Which was on the 11th floor, room 2169. It had a great view and I would say maybe even better than the views one may have had from the Secrets side. However since we had booked so far in advance we assumed that we would have had a room reserved for us on the Secrets side… needless to say we were very disappointed……. The first few days we had just stayed on the Now Amber side on the beach. Every time we ate they ask you for your room number, if we were at a Secrets restaurant they told us that we were at the Now Amber so then we would have to explain that we were preferred members but did not get a room on the Secrets side so then they would always just seat us at a table. When we went into the breakfast buffet they asked for our room number and told us that we were not allowed in the restaurant. This was our fourth day, again we said we were preferred members but were put on the Now Amber side, so our room number didn’t relate to that. They asked for our card, we didn’t know what they meant by that (found out later they needed to see our room key card). At this point I had a few tears….as we always had to explain it. This wasn’t what we planned to experience when we booked so long ago. The girl led us to a table, I’m sorry now that I did not get her name. She apparently called Moncerrath, (the assistant manager of food and beverage-I believe was her title) to come and see us while we were eating. We explained to her the hassle of trying to use the perks on the Secrets side. Next thing we knew she had the manager Carlo Diaz at our table. He looked at our confirmation letter with the date of March 2019 on it and made a phone call. Anyway after that the rest of our holiday went without a hitch! Much thanks to Moncerrath and Carlos for going out of their way for making us feel special!! After that they pretty much had booked all our dinners for us, the service was great at every place. We also took part in the Chef’s table, which was amazing! A real special treat and I would highly recommend it! Also it was nice to eat breakfast at Castaways near the beach, the service was excellent. As was the Mexican coffee in the Oceana restaurant along with the service there! The hotels themselves are pretty much joined except for a few steps between the lobby’s. They are both clean and the food was the best we have ever experienced in Mexico! They have nightly entertainment, which for us was a bit late but when we did stay up later we took it in. They also have entertainment in both lobbys in the evening, however some nights there was so much smoking going on we couldn’t stay. It would be nice if they had separate smoking sections… The beach was nice to walk along and whales were spotted almost daily from the beach. They rang a huge bell when they were spotted to alert everyone to take a look. There are so many special employees at these hotels, I am sorry I never wrote down everyone’s names. Everyone had a smile on their face! Benny in the preferred club bar made the best French 75’s!! Actually the only French 75’s we found, you must go there. Also hats off to David, Jorge, Omar, Valmir, Romano, Jose. Also to all the beach waiters you guys were awesome, I’m sorry if I don’t have all your names; Caleb, Junior, Daniel Verde and I believe there may have been another Daniel! Also Perla in the Now Amber coffee shop, my husband says you were the best! Also Diana the girl who greeted us at a few of the restaurants, she knew our room number by heart! Thanks! Again thanks so much Moncerrath and Carlos, without you two we wouldn’t have had such a great time! Many thanks! We were also invited to two of the Preferred Club cocktail parties, which were very enjoyable as we were entertained by The Dream Boys! The hotel spa is very nice and the massages were great! There is a Mega store not far from the hotel and on the ground floor of that building there is a little souvenir shop that had vanilla and pretty much anything else you wanted. Prices were reasonable and we preferred to grab a few things there instead of the craziness in the flea market of downtown. We also went to Blakes Sports Bar to watch curling a few times. It is very close to the hotel as well. The food was good but the service can be a bit slow as they seem to be under staffed most times. It’s too bad it seems most hotels in Mexico don’t have sports bars with Canadian channels… I hope everyone is staying safe during this COVID-19 pandemic. Don’t worry us northerners will be back again to enjoy your country and the wonderful hospitality when it is safe to do so!
A relaxing resort. On the Pacific ocean for beach walking. It had several swimming pools including a swim up bar. The restaurants were very nice and with certain packages, reservations were unnecessary.
Great place to relax and do nothing!
I visited this resort with a friend in mid-March just before the United States started imposing lock downs amid the coronavirus pandemic. I was very impressed with the resort for training their staff to avoid handshakes and practice social distancing (while remaining friendly); enforcing all guests to use hand sanitizer before entering restaurants; and having hand sanitizer literally everywhere on the resort. Overall, the staff was super friendly and helpful. They managed a great balance between checking on you but not doing it so much that it became annoying and interrupted your relaxing. The one annoyance was after checking in, they usher you to another desk where they gave us coupons and encouraged us to go to a (what seemed like) time share sales pitch so we can get higher value coupons. Even after telling her directly and repeatedly that we are tired and just want to go to our room, she continued with her pitch. To her credit, she talked as fast as humanly possible to get through it. Skip the coupons. We didn't use any of it. Rooms were comfortable. Food was delicious. Staff was amazing!
