Great location. Room and food are decent.

Location of resorts is perfect, close to the Malecon, easy access by taxi or Uber. Staff was friendly, check in and out was easy. Loved the French restaurants and the Mexican restaurants, except for the Asian restaurants it was OK. Sushi rice was undercooked and there’s not a lot of varieties of sushi. They don’t even have ginger for their sushi or soy sauce. But other than that the breakfast buffet has variety, and it was good. The time we were there seem like every day they had some kind of different events and private events like weddings. A little bit noisy at times. if you have one of the room that’s facing the pool then it’s kind of noisy. They try to hire different bands, different nights and different events which is much appreciated for an inclusive resort.

    Secrets Vallarta Bay

Rooms really need upgrading. Housekeeping very spotty in the evening. Not all rooms had clocks, chairs, bath mat in shower, mats beside the bed, slippers. The staff is amazing. But since Hyatt has taken over Secrets resorts, we can really tell a difference and not for the better. No TOP shelf liquor anymore, no champagne and cold towel upon arrival anymore, You can just really see the changes Hyatt made. Most of the staff is fabulous. One night, there were 3 different music entertainers playing in the lobby at the same time!! Just noise.

    5th Visit To Secrets

This was our 5th visit to Secrets and will probably be the last due to Tui cancelling flight routes to PV after April 2024. A lot of the previous staff appear to have been cherry picked to work at the Bahia Mita in PV and in all honesty, it shows. Alejandra & Moncerrath were both seriously missed on this occasion. After Tui cancelling our original booking for a preferred suite, we had booked a sea view room. We were disappointed on our arrival to find that the Gentleman dealing with us just got up and walked away leaving us to be attended to by a lady without any explanation. She then offered us a room on the 4th floor with limited views. We asked for a higher floor (Specifically the 5th floor that we had been given on our last two trips) but it wasn’t available. They gave us a room on the 7th floor which we accepted but there were a few teething problems which in fairness, Secrets sorted out fairly quickly. We have always loved the staff at Secrets and its true to say the staff make the hotel rather than the other way round. Almost every member of staff go out of their way to ensure people have the holiday of a lifetime. However, we noticed a couple of the pool waiters only looked after large groups of Americans (Probably tip related) whilst ignoring couples who were looking for a drink. (This wasn’t Jonathan by the way) The other problem is secrets appear to be putting the Preferred section above regular holiday makers and the concierges do anything necessary to keep them happy, even taking our space around the sunbeds. There was also the usual ‘Private’ Functions/Weddings which meant we were unable to use the sun beds at various times. Once again putting money over the comfort of us who had already paid for a 2 week vacation. Our biggest problem was the maintenance above Oceana which went on for most of our 2 week stay. Not only was the noise ridiculous for a ‘relaxing holiday’ but also the pool was dirty every day due to them grinding the old paint off above it and the filters in the pool weren’t working. It was impossible to relax with them using Hilti Guns, Grinders, Welding (Without screens) and using scaffold towers in an unsafe way. We did say we would have come home early had there been a flight but there wasn’t. This is where the staff made up for the problems. It’s fair to say everyone in The Market Café for breakfast and lunch was absolutely brilliant. Professional but friendly to a fault. The lovely Sophia took us to our table daily and we loved Benito, Alan, Sergio, Edgar & Rey plus all the others who will you will see on the pictures. I had an omelette for breakfast nearly every morning and every one was first class. The Bordeaux was our favourite place in the evenings and we went there about 5 or 6 times. The standard was unbelievably good and also a consistent five star quality. This restaurant is probably the main reason why we have returned for the 5th time. Pictures of staff attached. We went to Oceana for lunch a few times and 3 or 4 times in the evenings and it’s fair to say the standard of the service was hit and miss. One afternoon we had our main course and starters brought out together and one evening we had our main course brought to the table before we had finished our starter. Also, there never seemed to be enough cutlery or water glasses for some reason. One thing we couldn’t complain about though was the standard of the food. Always excellent. We went to Capers twice and had one good experience and one bad. Food was nice but small portions. Fair to say the staff weren’t very attentive. We tried the Himitsu once and it was ok but full of kids. We didn’t bother with the Teppanyaki table as we had tried it previously. The Entertainment group were enthusiastic and tried their best to get everyone involved. Plenty of pool games and even Bingo with the lovely Teri. Special shout out to Joel, the pool concierge who is a nice friendly chap but ensure you ask him to show you a card trick. He is excellent at them. The lady who cleaned our room daily was brilliant (I’m sure her name was Judith) and if we left a note in the fridge, it was restocked daily. My wife loved her early morning coffee from Rosa at the Bay Cafe. A lovely, lovely person. Lots of people agreed the quality of alcoholic drinks were NOT branded alcohol. We bought two bottles of spirits at duty free and used to have a couple of quality drinks before we went out. There was NO comparison with the quality in the bar or restaurants. As for restaurants, we paid a premium for adult restaurants but in the evening, now the Market Café is closed, we had a choice of Bordeaux or Oceana (Which wasn’t great when raining) whereas on the Dreams side, there was Capers, Mexican, Asian, Castaways & the Carnival Buffet. In conclusion, would we return? All depends on Tui, tbh. Previously, it has been without question but it appears that Secrets seem to want to look at increasing income from those already there. They introduced a Surf & Turf Night at Oceana where people on all inclusive could pay a premium for a T Bone Steak and spend most of each day trying to sell you an expensive bottle of Tequila or get you to purchase an expensive bottle of wine to dine in the wine room. If we did return, in all honesty it would be more likely because of the staff rather than Secrets.

    Fabulous staff at Secrets

The staff went above and beyond to make our 10 day stay fabulous. Special mention of these employees for their service, Heimei(Jimmy), athletic supervisor, Manuel (beach), Luis ( garden supervisor), Myra in Marketplace, as well as Wendy, Caesar, Humberto, and the complete Marketplace staff also our housekeeping lady for room 2307. We have been coming to Secrets for years. The food was excellent.

    Great service, relentless boomy music

This was a destination wedding and we spent most if the 8 days hanging out with 3 other couples. Service and food were excellent. The staff were super pleasant and good humoured--you'll rarely have to put a hand up for a coffee refill and they bend over backwards to accommodate larger groups in the restaurants. Oceana was our favourite for dinner and Market Cafe for breakfast and lunch. We started our mornings at about 8:30 for either yoga, pilates, or the gym. I'm a gym rat. Gym is B-minus, about what you'd expect from an all-inclusive. Great selection of dumbbells, with enough weight for serious lifters. Only one Olympic bar and classic bench press station, but very limited weight plates--enough for just over 200 pounds. Enough for most. Lots of cardio equipment, but only 2 upright spin bikes. Beach is typical west coast/Pacific, with coarser sand and lots of smooth stones on entry. Don't expect Caribbean powder. Definitely worth the upgrade to Preferred Club. You'll have access to exclusive bar and buffet stations, plus Oceana is open for breakfast only to Preferred Club guests. A big plus, is you also get a butler who'll manage any dinner reservations, transfers, or other special requests. Jose Becerra was our butler and he gave us his cell contact on arrival. All we did was text any requests and he was on it--from what you preferred in your fridge, restaurant queries, etc, etc. Request him in advance if that's possible--great guy and fluent English. Only real disappointment was the almost constant racket from super loud dance music--and from multiple sources--starting mid morning, breaking from about 5 until 7, then on again until 11 pm. As it's a relatively small complex, there was no escape. We had to keep our patio doors closed much of the time to damped the racket. Rooftop outdoor wedding, karaoke and a live music all blaring at the same time! Why we need Donna Summer at 105 dB drowning out the sound of tropical surf at 11 am is beyond me. Also, seems a lot of younger folks come to whoop it up and live at the swim up bar. Lots of loud chatter and hooting. Overall, do not regret going, just be forewarned that the vibe leans heavily towards party-party.
