Overall pretty good
Here is hopefully a short and to the point review. We stayed at St. James during the first week of June and overall had a great experience. The staff were generally very friendly and eager to help—showing respect and offering tips definitely goes a long way here. In return, we were treated with kindness and attentiveness. The rooms could use a bit of an upgrade. While everything was clean, there were some signs of wear—rust on the shower hinges and a bit of peeling paint. We didn’t opt for the room upgrade, so that may have made a difference. One area that could use improvement is the bar selection. Being in Jamaica, I expected a better variety of local rum—especially higher-quality Appleton. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but an upgrade here would enhance the experience. As a bit of a pool snob, I found the pools could have been cleaner. A little more chlorine and stronger filtration would help. That said, it didn’t stop us from enjoying them. We did notice a team of pool specialists on-site, apparently gathering information for a future upgrade, which is promising. The food was typical for a resort—some hits, some misses. Surprisingly, the buffet was better than expected and above average compared to other resorts we’ve visited. The only real downside was some of the other guests. While I understand people are on vacation and want to have fun, a few individuals were out of control—especially at the pool bars. I enjoy a good time as much as anyone, but there’s a line between fun and disrespectful behavior. Some guests seemed to forget basic decorum, which was unfortunate. Shout out to the entertainment staff and expecially Trixie..they did a great job

Excellent Resort - Just be careful, they will try to upsell you at every turn
Careful, they'll offer you a bunch of discounts on things, but only if you sit through a 90-minute sales pitch during breakfast. My wife and I declined. Miguel the concierge did not tell us that our discount on a romantic dinner was dependent on us being willing to be sold to. He told us he just wanted to "treat us right" since it was our honeymoon. We asked him what the catch was. He told us there was no catch. He just wanted to "show us to breakfast". There was a catch. We were there for our honeymoon; we wanted to enjoy our first breakfast on the island together... alone. We had no interest in eating while we keep telling a person we're not interested in a membership for 90 minutes. Neither of us had stayed at an all-inclusive before. I'm assuming this is probably some shady tactic most of them have that we'll know about going into it next time. We spent the majority of the time on the beach. Did a lot of drinking and snorkeling. Errol and Kadeen were absolutely incredible at keeping the drinks flowing. They were very personable and friendly. They were a very real bright spot in our experience. The resort itself was in good condition, and we enjoyed pretty much all of the food. The best food, as other reviewers noted, was in the buffet. Italian was really good. We also did the Hibachi and that food was good, but the cook was the bright spot. He was VERY entertaining. We enjoyed that experience - I'd definitely recommend getting a reservation for that. Mexican left a lot to be desired, and I'm not sure why a tostada is listed as "toast" on the menu either. Oh... I can't forget to mention the jerk chicken grill that walks up and down the sidewalk between the St. James and Wild Orchid pools. That chicken was INCREDIBLE. Don't order room service if you don't have at least 90 minutes to wait around in your hotel room at a beach resort. It took almost 2 hours one morning for us to get 2 bagels and coffee for breakfast. Be careful of urchins in the water close to the beach. Be especially wary of the white urchins covered in shells. They can be difficult to spot. While neither my wife nor I stepped on one, we saw at least one person on the beach getting treated for it each day we were there. We saw tons of them in the sea grass while snorkeling. Don't walk in that. Pack more sunscreen than you'll ever need. $50 for a normal sized bottle of sunscreen that is usually about $12. It's even cheaper at the airport. The night life was decent. Maybe we're just getting old, but we just ended up walking around at night most of the time enjoy each other's company. The Desires club was WAYY too loud. You couldn't even have a good conversation if you're yelling directly in the person's ear. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We met a ton of GREAT people on our trip, a few we exchanged numbers/Facebook with and are texting with pretty regularly. Shout out to Kadeen and Errol. Thank you for everything. We'd probably stay again.

A Jamazing Experience!
The stay was great! Customer service was 11 out of 10! Staff made the stay and made you feel welcomed and like family. Made it hard to want to leave because it was ending. People who need to be recognized are Rashmaine, Akim, Errol, Dowaine, and Roger! They went above and beyond. Felt like I made friends for life there! Definitely will hopefully be back. The Ramsey Family Room 3112 June 5th to June 10th 2025.

Go now!
Great resort, friendly staff, great location. We will definitely return to this and other Hyatt properties. Dining options were extensive and the drinks were a cut above other all inclusive resorts I have experienced. We had no trouble finding chairs at the beach and pool.
