Amazing Entertainment Team
I stayed at Secrets Aura Cozumel for 7 days. Everything about the resort was amazing, the views, the food, the people, and the drinks. The best part for me was definitely the entertainment team. Aaron, Jonny, and Christopher made my experience so amazing. They had amazing energy and made my group and me want to participate in any activity they were running. Aaron was especially friendly and had everyone laughing. All of the activities were pretty fun too. Those guys did such an amazing job and I would 100% return just to hang out with them again.
Honest review of the resort. We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach in June where we joined UVC. We decided to use our free week in Cozumel because of the diving. Aura was the best option since we don’t have small kids. Right after we booked, we started seeing all kind of really bad reviews and seriously thought about canceling. Decided to join this group to hear from others before we canceled. Glad we did! We realized after reading comments that this was not going to be at the level of Maroma and that if we set our expectations, we wouldn’t be disappointed. So glad we kept our reservations! First of all, we stayed in the cheapest room they had, a non-preferred pool view room. We checked in and realized the ac just wasn’t cooling our room enough (we like to hang meat when we sleep🥶❄️). Notified the front desk and they got us to a new room which cooled the room great (room 4132)! The beds were very comfortable, pillows were good and the room was cold so nothing negative to say here. We slept like babies all 7 nights!! They cleaned our room daily, which by the way is a thing of the past at hotels in the US. We had to ask for hand towels a few times but all in all, cleaning people were great. Being non-preferred was only slightly annoying only when it came to breakfast as we couldn’t go to Oceana. It didn’t stop us from going to Market Cafe for a nice omelet. I will say we tried the buffet there on day 1 because our room wasn’t ready. We weren’t that impressed so we decided on other options for the rest of our stay. There are enough other options to find something else. Most every morning we ordered room service for breakfast and we weren’t disappointed! Food was really good and never arrived a minute past the delivery time we chose. We would order sometimes at 7:45 for an 8:45 delivery. The fruit here was incomparable to what you get in the US! So much better so we made sure to order two fruit plates with room service! We took an excursion with Fishing With PEDRO and had the best time! We caught several fish and after went to a special place to snorkel and then another place to swim with stingrays! These guys were actually “friends”with the stingrays. They were like pets to these guys! Was absolutely the coolest experience I have ever had!! Pedro and Renee fileted our fish and made the best ceviche we have ever had!! We took the remaining filets to Windows and the chef there prepared a wonderful meal for the four of us! They made sushi, ceviche, sashimi, and grilled fish. Delicious and beyond our expectations!! The chef came to our table to make sure everything was good. Can’t say enough about our experience!! We hung out at the pool outside our room and went down the slide several times. Most of the time, we had the pool to ourselves along with our private bartender from the swim up bar. We drank margaritas for the most and the bartenders will make them however you like. We are a little picky about our margaritas and prefer them made with fresh lime juice, a little triple sec and Don Julio. Wow…best margarita we have ever had! Our bartender at the pool took an order for food for us too. I asked for guacamole which wasn’t on any menu I had seen and he got it for me! Just ask and you shall receive here! Oh and we never saw any green pools so not sure what that is all about. We ate at Oceana, Windows, Sunnyside Grill, El Patio, Barefoot Grill, Gohan Sushi and on our last night, Bordeaux. Our favorites were El Patio and Bordeaux. I had escargot, pear salad, duck and crepes at Bordeaux and everything was yummy!! The other restaurants were fine but our favorites were excellent. The people here work so hard. I kept thinking about how poor service has become in the US in all industries and how different it is from here. We gladly tipped these people for their hard work and pleasant attitudes, something we definitely aren’t getting at home!! All in all, we can be a little boogie at times…lol but with setting your expectations, this resort is wonderful! We will definitely be back and next time will add a few more days to our trip! So glad we did our own research and didn’t listen to the negative reviews!
Nightmare at Secrets Aura Cozumel
Room lock broken, safe did not work, toilet leaking at base, when toilet leak fixed them flush did not work, no hair dryer, no iron in the room. tile in shower old and broken, shower diverter did not work, water warm and then extremely hot every 35 seconds, very dangerous, at 2:00 am on our last night water poured down wall and ceiling in the bathroom. Didn't keep pool towels supplied. We were disappointed in all restaurants at the hotel. Most dinners we left un touched as the food was absolutely horrible. We would never return to this property nor would we recommend it. We will go back to the Secrets Cancun where we have stayed many times. No comparison. Landscaping was not up to Secrets standard as we know it. All flower beds were full of weeds, and we never saw any gardeners. We spent 7 days. The only thing that got us through these 7 days was our wonderful maid Alicia, server Ricardo, head waiter Leonardo and hostess Jennifer and Rosanna Finally: When over 98% of the guests at the hotel are English speaking why do you have only two tv channels of English CNN and Fox news, had to watch U.S Tennis Open in Spanish David W. Overall good experience, but needs some work
Stayed for 7 nights in early September for an anniversary trip. Overall, it was a good vacation and we enjoyed our time in Cozumel. Room - Booked a preferred ocean view swim-up. When we arrived, I was disappointed that it wasn’t one of the updated rooms but I will say that we enjoyed having the swim out and that made up for any disappointment with the decor. - We had a corner unit with tons of windows/sliding glass doors (#1410), which was awesome. So much natural light, which it appears the other rooms didn’t have. - Hotel does need a major renovation, room had some peeling paint, mildew in places, curtains with rips/tears in places, etc. Swim-out area was clean as well but missing some tiles and had some wear and tear issues. - The room was huge with separate living area and dining table; clean and the bed was comfortable, bathroom was tiny but had a great shower. Food - I was worried about the food quality after reading reviews, but everything was actually pretty good. - Buffet was less impressive than all the sit down restaurants. - Oceana was the best for breakfast, hands down. You have to book preferred to eat there, but it’s worth it. - Windows (Mediterranean) was our favorite restaurant for dinner. We went twice during our stay. Bordeaux seems to be a favorite for a lot of people but we didn’t get to try that one out unfortunately. - Room service was decent. Great for breakfast and ok for other meals/snacks. Beach/Grounds - Grounds were well-maintained, no complaints at all there. - Beach was AMAZING for snorkeling!! Bring your own snorkel mask (can buy for $20 on Amazon) and snorkel right off the beach! We saw at least 20 different kinds of fish, anemones, multiple spotted sting rays, eels, crab. We went twice during the week since our official snorkel excursion got rained out. - Good views from the pier and a lot of excursions leave directly from there, which is convenient. Staff - Everyone was really nice and no complaints at all with staff - We tried to tip around $3-5 per meal and for drinks/service. Would recommend leaving small tips for the housekeeping staff, which we forgot to do until the last day so just left a larger one for the whole week. - Did seem to be a little short staffed at the restaurants at times, which led to longer wait times, but nothing excessive. Overall: clean but in need of some TLC/updating, swim-out room is recommended, preferred club recommended. Try Windows for dinner.
Beautiful resort... grounds and pools were amazing and well manicured. Wonderful restaurants... Oceana was great. La Cava was spectacular... amazing food and wine. Our ocean front room was spectacular... great balcony, comfortable bed. Everything was spotless. Great service and friendliness from everyone.
