Another AMAZING holiday at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya
We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Secrets Akumal and with this our 2nd visit, it did not disappoint. We stayed in Jan 24 and had high expectations for our return trip in the last 2 week of Jan 25. We had a Preferred Club Partial Sea View room, 4409 that was absolutely amazing. What sets this resort out from others is not only it’s amazing location, but that ALL of the staff are very friendly, professional and engaging; where nothing is too much and they will go out of their way to assist to enhance your holiday experience. Dining: We liked the Seaside Grill for all meals, breakfast for ‘preferred only’ at this location. Jamie the manager and his team are outstanding and attentive. Other restaurant mentions would be the Himitsu – Japanese, Asian, we dined here frequently and enjoyed the Teppanyaki experience. El Patio (Mexican), Portofino (Italian), Santorini (Greek – Preferred only). There is outdoor dining for themed nights, due to the weather, these were relocated to the Theatre on many occasions for our visit. Concierge services are very attentive and informative. Headed up by Fernanda, (the concierge manager), she is absolutely amazing. She always has a smile on her face and goes the extra mile in order you’re your stay is exceptional. Beach/Pool concierge and waiters/waitress are very good. Again, very attentive and they all work very hard to ensure your needs are catered for. Only on 1 day, was it hard to find a set of Sun Loungers. This was on a weekend when the resort must have been at capacity. Throughout this difficult period the Beach/Pool concierges tried hard to locate a place for us. Of note was concierge’s Agustin, Alexjandro, and waitress’s Sharon and Ana. The Entertainment Team are very enthusiastic. We partook in the Kayak tour from the resort hosted by Max, this was very good and informative. Of particular note was Gabriel, he always found time to speak and ensured are stay was special. To ensure a balanced review, the only element of the Resort that was less than ideal was the evening Corporate Events. One of these took place at the Pool 2 location and it was intrusive to our holiday experience. The very loud and bad Karaoke within this event was awful. Other events did take place and were non-intrusive to our stay. The Resort needs to manage these Corporate Events carefully, to ensure individual events don’t impact on the holidaymaker’s experience. We don’t normally return to a location at all, the world is a big place, so the question of would we return to Secrets Akumal? This would be a definite YES. Our challenge and concern from now on, is that any subsequent resort that we go to, post our 2 holidays here in Jan 24 and 25, will have a very high bar to meet. We WILL come HOME again Secrets Akumul.

Paradise!
Just arrived home from a fantastic 10night stay at this beautiful hotel. Everything was perfection from the housekeeping to the delicious food and wine. Drinks service around the pool was so good we were never without a drink which was of high quality and decent spirits and the bar staff certainly knew how to make a cocktail! Plenty of towels for your sun bed and you could change them whenever you wanted to and no rushing in the morning to get a bed as plenty to round. All the staff are friendly and helpful but Diana went above and beyond leaving a beautiful flower arrangement in our room and a birthday cake at the show cooking for my friends upcoming birthday we were blown away by her kindness. We loved walking through the lush vegetation and seeing all the wildlife it was jungle paradise! The beach is stunning and snorkelling off the beach was amazing with the fish and turtles. Best all inclusive I’ve stayed at, I will be back.

A lovely resort we did not want to leave
We had a wonderful time at this resort. The food, activities, and staff were all excellent and there were so many pools and beach chairs that everyone seemed to greatly enjoy themselves. The Temperature hung around 80 degrees with a bit of humidity but there was always a pleasant breeze.

5 diamond resort with 10 diamond staff
My husband and I just visited Secrets Akumal for our 14th time. Each trip seems to get better and better, if that’s even possible. From the beautiful beaches, lush foliage surrounding the resort, exquisite dining options, delicious drinks, 3 swimming pools, the marine life, and the most amazing staff ever…it’s all you could ever want in a luxury vacation. We stayed in an ocean-front preferred club suite in building 2. We had the most amazing view from our room. When we arrived, we had so many special surprises waiting for us. Our room was beautifully decorated with photo memories from previous vacations and specialty champagnes and gifts. All of our meals were 10/10 with the most amazing service. The most incredible meal was the private romantic dinner on the beach. The setting was perfect, the service and food were superb. The best on the actual beach meal I’ve had in my life. I would like to mention a few of the staff that make this trip outstanding. Metz (concierge) went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. All of the extra touches made our trip excellent. She is an asset to the resort. Eliazar and Otoniel at Market Cafe were phenomenal. We loved starting our morning out with the friendly, smiling faces always going above and beyond. Ana Bravo, Nicte-ha Gonzalez, and Leo Sauz made this trip the best ever. The amazing private dinners, room decor, extra amenities, pictures made this the best trip ever. Marisol (hostess seaside) is so friendly and has the friendly smile to welcome us home. Chef Johnny helps plan the most exquisite and delicious dinners and helps with my special dietary needs. Jorge Canul is like a ninja. He is everywhere and always helps guests. He makes a special point to greet us and see if there is anything we may need. Fernando and Alfredo (Jose Chavez) the sommeliers helped us with specialty wine and tequila tastings and purchases. So friendly and helpful. Sharon (beach waiter) always refilled our drinks and was there with a smile anytime we needed her. Also Agustin , Hector, Ismael, Samuel, Henry (beach waiters) are very helpful and friendly on the beach and at Bali beds- Great service. Marcario (server at Seaside) is the friendly happiest guy ever. He was moving fast and smiling all the time and was so helpful. Mario (preferred club) and Santos (bartender) are happy to make our coffee and drinks. They are always happy to see us at the resort. Johanna at the Lobby bar. Great service with a smile. She went above and beyond to help us with specialty drinks. Chef Ruben-Seaside and previously Barefoot grill. He made such delicious lunches for us. Fernanda (preferred club manager) so proud of her promotion . She is such a delight to see every day and greet us with her friendly smile. There are so many more I’m forgetting. The staff is why we continue to return. You can find beautiful beaches, delicious food, and drinks all over the world, but you can only find the best staff here. They are what make this resort 5 diamonds. We cannot wait to start planning our trip # 15.

Amazing time at Secrets Akumal!
From the moment we checked in until the moment we left, we were absolutely floored by the attention we received from everyone! The grounds were immaculate and the property overall is very well maintained. A special shout out goes to our concierge Sergio (Mr. Chan). He was our building concierge (each building has one). Everyday he came by to see us and made sure we had what we needed. The staff of the resort go above and beyond to pamper you at every step. For example, everyday, a guy with an ice cream cart makes his way around each pool starting about 1 handing out cones. Also, another staff member came around a couple times during the week and cleaned our sunglasses! There is a wide variety of food here and about 8-9 restaurants to choose from. While the food isn’t ‘gourmet’, it was very good overall (we didn’t like the French or Greek restaurants though), so you won’t go hungry! This was our first time here but we will most definitely be back! Other posters have mentioned that they were often approached about the Hyatt timeshare, but we were never approached. Our room was a junior suite (I believe this is the smallest room, but I assure you it was very spacious- a patio, bedroom and sep bath area with a jacuzzi tub as well as a tub on the patio in the preferred club, which had a view of the pool and a small sliver of ocean behind). We were on the top floor in the corner. We agree with other posters that while the preferred club isn’t really necessary (gives you a better room location, a special lounge and an extra restaurant (Greek)), for us, the diff in price was very negligible, so we did it. The beach, while public, has plenty of umbrellas and chairs, so even if the resort is full (which it was for half our stay), there’s no need to wake up early to get one. Yes, there’s seaweed (it’s a prob everywhere in the carribbean) but they had staff raking it up daily so it wasn’t a big deal. We highly suggest taking a tour with ‘Johnny’ to see sea turtles. It was $50 for 2 of us ( the hotel charges $50 ea) and it was amazing!! They take you into the protected area where we saw prob 5-6 turtles, rays and other fish. You wear a life vest but no fins are allowed. You are ‘towed’ by a guide with a life ring to hold onto while snorkeling. He’s in a bass pro shop hat everyday just walking along the beach by the boats, so look for him. Hint- go early!! We took an 8 am tour and were one of just a handful of people in the water. As a result, we prob got within just a few feet of the turtles, which was so cool to see them in their natural habitat! Or, just look for people in orange vests. He has a little shack in front of the akumal dive shop about a 5 min walk down the beach. Take a left when you get to the beach and you can’t miss it. There are 2 dive shops next to each other, but he’s by the further one- the akumal dive shop. The other one is the akumal dive center. The evening shows were mostly good. They do a pirate show by the pool one night which was fun, plus a fire show by the quiet pool another night. They also had a Beatles show one night w a tribute band and some acrobats. It was ok- felt a bit disjointed. We did one tour through the hotel’s tour agent-amstar- to Tulum and a catamaran. The whole day really felt rushed and we weren’t very impressed with the service. The guides, however, were good. If you can, book tours through someone else. The upside to Amstar tho is that they have a dedicated desk at the hotel so all their tours pick up and drop off there (tho you’ll be with people from other area hours, so the transportation felt like a bus stop). Finally, there are 3 pools. The front pool is by the lobby and is a quiet pool. It’s huge and they play soft new age type music. The back 2 pools are by the beach and are also big but def louder. They have activities there everyday so check the Hyatt all inclusive app. We hung out mostly at the quiet pool since everyday from lunch-about 4pm they have a dj at the back pool. In the end, we absolutely loved this resort. My wife and I love all inclusives and this was by far, the best one. We have other places to see, but we def will return here in the future!
