Not only a golf 🏌️♂️ hotel
Yes, TPC Sawgrass and The Players Championships are right around the corner. But at this Marriott you can also spend a vacation without golfing. For a $ 25 resort fee per day one can relax at two outdoor pools, in the spa and ride a bike or take a shuttle to Ponte Vedra‘s marvelous beach. The Cabana Beach Club belongs to the property and is only 8 minutes away. We haven’t dined in the restaurant this time, because the Sawgrass village with nice restaurants like the Aqua Grill and shops is in walking distance. We‘ll come back for sure.

Overall good, except the Massage
Overall our experience at the Marriott was ok. Highs= nice room, no sound issues, property looked good, nice options for pools, restaurants were great. We had dinner at Vernon's and it was fabulous, and my family enjoyed the PUB. We went on the 4th of July weekend. events posted online for kids were no where to bee seen and the staff didn't know about them. Online it said DG at the pool, no DJ at Sawgrass. Bubble Party at the pool, no bubble party. Tito's event, never saw it, Watermelon eating contest, never saw it. And I had a massage scheduled that was underwhelming. I got a Full Body loofah buff that was a dry rub with a mini loofah. No oil and the sponge was DRY. Unpleasant. The massage was the least favorite. It felt like the therapist was giving a quick rub everywhere. The time spent was ok, but it felt like she as in a hurry, not relaxing at all. She has been there 20 years she said, so maybe something was just off on this day. She was a nice lady, but I would not book again with Lynn.

Excellent Spa Experience!
Had the best spa experience with Mary and a reflexology and scalp massage. She used wonderful, natural products I was able to purchase in the Spa shop. Very nice facilities with a private pool that offered full food and bar. Great service! Try the Asian chicken wrap. Do yourself a favor and spend a nice afternoon there like I did!

Very disappointing front desk incompetence
We booked a significant number of rooms for a family wedding. Property is attractive, though rooms are dated and lack sufficient or well placed outlets to charge devices. And charging for WiFi these days is a pretty petty scam, one I could avoid by being a Bonvoy member. Here was the big disappointment: Front desk personnel are all polite but unaligned on their own policies. At check out, I asked them to deliver a gift to my sister's room (the mother of the groom) indicating her surname and room number on the gift bag. The first person assured me this was no problem. By the evening, when I realized my sister had not received it, I called and a second person said it was "not their policy" to deliver something to another room. Instead my sister would have to come down to get it, confirming the gift was sitting behind the desk. My sister checked out the next day and asked and no one knew anything about a gift bag. At this point, I phone the hotel while in transit and a third person not only could no longer locate the bag, but after keeping me on hold for at least 20 minutes, she disconnected me. No response (or responsibility) on the part of the hotel and a surprise gift was ruined.

Dilapidated and Foul Smelling
Once upon a time this was the place to stay in Ponte Vedra and I had done so many times. Now the hotel rooms are very outdated, have a bad smell and dirty. This was the case when I stayed last year but I figured I’d give them another shot. Big mistake - it’s even worse. When we arrived people were complaining at the front desk about their rooms and making switches. That should have been a red flag. This time our anniversary was completely wrecked and we actually had to leave. Our room had a horrid smell - we didn’t know if it was sewage, gas but we couldn’t breathe. We felt certain it was in the ventilation - possibly in the bathroom (which looks like a college dorm room). It was also dirty and the dark wood work worn and chipped. The hotel front desk indicated we couldn’t be moved until someone came up to verify and try to fix it. Housekeeping came with a bucket of soap and water he threw in the sinks and toilet. He then agreed there was a serious issue. Hotel management tried to accommodate by moving us to what they said was the last room in the hotel available. It was a double bed instead of a king, tiny, smelled of mildew (maybe mold?), broken refrigerator and shelves missing. Probably why it was the last one available (which I doubt). Given there were no more rooms we had to leave. On our way out another person staying asked if we were leaving from troubles with the room. He told us he had huge problems with a smell in his room and had to be moved. His new room also smelled and was dirty but he lived too far to leave. I truly believe there was a larger issue but given the full capacity management had to cover it up. So much for our anniversary - we lost out on golf for my husband, a spa day for me and what should have been a special stay. Instead we were driving home at midnight, highly disappointed. What else should you know? Property itself outside is beautiful. Golf courses obviously top caliber. Personnel - most friendly but they are way understaffed. The manager actually had to help us move luggage between rooms and when we had to leave. We have no issues moving luggage - it’s custom at a Residence Inn or Comfort Inn, you’d hope that wouldn’t be the case at what is supposed to be a top rated resort. Everything else - find another hotel. Jax Beach isn’t too far away. With such a beautiful property and world famous golf course you’d think Marriott would do a sorely needed renovation as this place should and could be a gold mine. I’m saddened by how dilapidated the rooms have become and hope they will take action given so many other reviews are similar to mine.
