Fun Solo Trip
This place was beautiful. The food wasn't all that but there was so much to do! I went Diamond Club and glad I did. I went on 2 excursions, the beach was wonderful. The service was great. Lots of walking in the heat so bring a hat for sure. I did adults only and I'm also glad I did.
Royalton Punta Cana
Great resort made even better by our butler Nelio. Highly recommended the diamond club. Hunter Steak house and Zen are a must to visit. Food and ambiance was on point. Beach, pools and water park are well maintained
Lovely holiday but hotel in need of updating
Great family holiday but main point is that the hotel is very much in need of an update. Weather: We visited the Royalton from 21st Sep to 2nd October, weather was lovely and hot. There was the odd quick shower in the day which was very much needed in the heat. Rooms: We checked in to rooms 1012 and 1014 which were bottom floor and in the first block immediately upon entering the rooms you were hit with the smell of damp which we assume was due to the hurricane, one room’s air conditioning also sounded like a plane engine and the safe didn’t work and the fridge was not stocked, the beds however were fine and probably one of the best we’ve had in hotels. The fire alarm also went off about 3 times in the night which was so loud it gives you a shock and is very very annoying. When reading the reviews I thought people were exaggerating the noise you could hear in your room but no. It is very loud at night, you can hear your neighbours, the music outside and people walking and talking in the corridors, we ended up putting towels on the floor in front of the door to quieten this. Waking up on our first morning the damp / mould smell was not bearable and we asked to move rooms, we were told to come back at 5pm. We were then moved to rooms 1046 and 1038 on the first floor which were so much better. Your fridges are filled everyday with coke, sprite, beer and water. We also did not get woken by any fire alarms after the first night, thank god. I would try and avoid the first building and try and get 4/5. Rooms are fine, adequate but very much need updating, they’re very old and not luxury. Entertainment: Not great. The “theatre” is absolutely falling apart, chairs broken and so so so incredibly warm so we only watched a couple of shows which are typical holiday entertainment not rubbish not great. We stayed for 11 days and noticed within our second week that the entertainment is only a weekly schedule, which is a bit of a shame when you’re there for longer than a week as it is repeated. The main issue however is that outside there are not enough seats - if you’re not there at 7/7:30 you’re not sitting outside which then means you’re forced to go to the lobby bar upstairs which is very very warm and boring. The music is very loud but turns off at a certain time (which can be quite late) and that’s it - didn’t stop us from sleeping / wake us up though. There was entertainment around the pool everyday, Aqua fit classes, fitness classes on the beach and a foam party which was good fun. It wasn’t really for us, but the vibe team did a great job of trying to keep people entertained and left us to do our own thing when they could see we didn’t want to join in, no pestering or anything. We read reviews before going that said the music was too loud for relaxing or reading but that was not the case - created a nice atmosphere. Food/drinks: Main buffet - good food, only downside is that there’s not that many options which can be very boring eventually. Pasta station where you watch them make your pasta in front of you was amazing and the pizzas are great. Steak house - amazing. Definitely recommend and we had no issues getting in without booking (we were not diamond club). Food was really good and really quick service. Pool grill - decent, burgers, chicken, pork, hot dogs and salad. Burgers were really good but try not wait for ages to get it as they run out of salad and sides etc. Coffee shop - nice drinks and cakes. Ice cream was nice but no ice lollies but good little place to go for a quick drink etc. Sports bar - so badly smelt of damp it was horrible so didn’t sit in their long. Can’t comment on anything else. Martini bar - really good drinks. Others - we attempted to go to the Italian twice but on both occasions it was closed so gave up. Couple other restaurants were also closed because of damage due to the hurricane which can’t be helped. We did not venture over to Splash to use their facilities but heard the Mexican is decent. Drinks - typical all inclusive drinks. No complaints and generally have everything you could want. However, as my girlfriend and I were travelling with my parents, we were at times believed to be underage, despite being 28 and 25 respectively, and I am certain there that on occasion, regardless of us asking for alcoholic cocktails, we were given the mocktail versions. Service: Cannot complain at all - everyone always was happy to help and was great that you got pool side service with drinks. We tipped often and everyone was so grateful for this and they deserved it for sure. Even when we didn’t tip I didn’t get the vibe of favouring those who did, never waiting too long for a drink and it was lovely that we were remembered as were our usual drinks orders. Beach: We arrived 2 days after the hurricane had swept through and the beach on our first day was in a bad way - however, the next day it was basically all cleared and safe to use. The sea was lovely and blue and really clean but very very rough so be warned! Sand very white. We took a walk down the beach a week or so into our trip and the other hotels’ beach were awful, very dirty and the sea also dirty and full of seaweed so credit to Royalton for their upkeep. Pools: The infinity pool was closed for a few days when we arrived due to the hurricane as it backs onto the beach so lots of debris. It did open a few days later and also a nice pool and pool bar obviously nice to have. The other pool was nice too, not too deep and big enough. Plenty of sun lounges but be aware some people do put towels down but never return. The pools perhaps do need a bit of updating as some tiles broken etc but not a huge issue. You also get towels at the excursion stand and they were always stocked. Just to note on the weekend a lot of locals come to the hotel which is obviously fine however, it becomes very very busy and very loud and they camp out at the bar inside the infinity pool so best to avoid that one (night time also very loud at this point too). Trips: We did two excursions booked through the hotel- saona island and marinarium. I’d strongly advice you do a lot of your own research of what is included in each trip as I don’t think the information we were given was particularly accurate. For example, I asked if during the Saona Island boat trip we would have the opportunity to snorkel, I was told yes. I asked if snorkels would be provided, also told yes. I asked if there would be any chance of seeing turtles and I was also told yes. The trip was incredible, the boat was good fun, the natural pool with star fish was amazing and the actual island was very picturesque, and you could argue that there were opportunities to snorkel, but these were not provided, and there was no stops as we had expected, we didn’t even see a fish let alone a turtle. The trip was great but I think if we were given correct information we would have done some more in depth research about what else was available. This is why we then booked an additional trip to snorkel which was great and definitely recommend. Having said this we did enjoy our trips, and appreciated that the excursion guys that came round did not pester you if you said you weren’t interested, but do think they are just eager to get you to book, even if it’s not exactly what you want. Overall: I would say this hotel is a 4 star, definitely not a 5. As I’ve said, it is in desperate need of a renovation and just upping the luxury element as that is non existent really but nice holiday, wouldn’t return but wasn’t disappointed.
Outstanding hotel. All made better by the staff. Jean Paul and his Vibe Team. Caroline was a fantastic butler, went above and beyond for us. Room clean, food fantastic. A really really good hotel. Believe the hype.
