The beautiful Royalton hotel
We spent two weeks here the last week of January and the first week of February. We were worried previously due to the negative reviews however we had an amazing time. The hotel is clean and the staff go above and beyond for you. We couldn’t fault it at all. Special mentions to some specific staff members who made our stay enjoyable: Joel: He was our butler and was just the loveliest man. Nothing we asked him was too much trouble and he was always so efficient in booking our reservations for us. He always came to see us by the pool and made sure we were okay and whether we needed. Carlos and Alexandro: they were the barman at the DC pool. They made the best cocktails, always greeted you with a smile and was always very happy. Ask Carlos for his ‘special’ shot. Roberto: he was the waiter in the Italian restaurant and was so funny and upbeat. Kept dancing around and making everyone laugh. Make sure to pay him a visit. Aracelis: She was our housekeeper and our room was always spotless. She left us plenty of towels and always left us sweet little notes for us to read when we got back to the room in the afternoon. Overall we really did have a fantastic time. Although we don’t tend to go back to the same destination twice, if we did go back to the DR, we wouldn’t hesitate to return to the Royalton. Gav and Lucy

Lazy River Did Not Disappoint
We had a throughly enjoyable time at the Royalton Bavaro. It’s a place for all ages. We saw small babies in strollers and elderly people in scooters, wheelchairs and walkers. There were families, friends in their 20’s, and couples of all ages. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The toilet didn’t have good water pressure but was usable. The large shower was lovely. A/C worked great. The beach had no seaweed even though neighbouring beaches that we walked past did. The water is not calm, and the waves are strong enough to push you over. No matter the time of day we always found a spot to sit, whether at the beach or pools, and usually shaded. The lazy river was definitely a highlight of the trip. It takes about a half hour to move through it. You will get wet! During busy times pool floats for the lazy river weren’t always available. The foam party in the infinity pool was a lot of fun. All pools are kept very clean. Food was plentiful and varied. Lobster was available some days, and it was freshly grilled for you while you wait. Both at the lunch and dinner buffets there were many seafood, beef, and chicken options as well as a pasta station that all prepared food for you. One evening there was a chocolate fountain, and dessert crepes with choices of fillings, ice cream, candy, and numerous desserts were available daily. There were many fresh vegetable and fruit options. The food was somewhat hit and miss; some things were tasty, other things not as much, but keep in mind there are people from many different countries with varied tastes in food at the resort. You may not like goat stew, oxtail soup, or tuna pizza but others will while you enjoy ham, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob or a ham and cheese sandwich on white crustless bread. The evening entertainment was nicely varied. There were acts with fire which were particularly impressive, singers, dancers, and acrobats. There was always something for children to enjoy before the adult entertainment. There are numerous bars throughout, and although we didn’t use them much, we felt drink service at the beach and during the entertainment was good. We saw staff cleaning all the time, day and night. Everything was kept very clean. The Prime Traveller’s Club salesmen, whom we avoided engaging with, and the vendors, weren’t too aggressive. Beware if you go to an information session as I heard it will take you over 2 hours and they will clearly show their displeasure if you aren’t interested in the end. People we spoke to were not impressed. I read many reviews before going, and after being there I can say people will have their individual opinions about everything so look at the reviews as a whole and discount ones that are negative about everything. The resort is clean, safe, and fun, and the staff are friendly and hardworking.

DC - Great Experience
Stayed here between 27th Jan - 7th Feb with my girlfriend and we had a great time. The staff were fantastic and made the experience 10 times better. They were always very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you! Darleny was our butler who was extremely helpful and was there for us whenever we needed something sorting out - 10/10! It was my girlfriend’s birthday during our stay and she decorated our room and even got us a birthday cake which was delicious. Diamond club is worth the upgrade in my opinion for the butler service, breakfast at Oceanside and the quieter pool/beach. We really liked the ZEN a la carte which had some of the best sushi we’ve ever tasted. All the other restaurants were really good and the pizza takeaway at lunch is a really nice perk of the hotel. The resort is well maintained and provides everything you need during a long stay. You’ll always get some bad reviews given the sheer amount of rooms and people that stay at the resort but we would definitely recommend this hotel so don’t be put off by the bad reviews!

Disasterous & Disappointing Royalton Bavaro
Our 8 day, 7 night stay at Royalton Bavaro was very disappointing. We were staying in a Diamond Club presidential suite and we definitley did not get what we paid for. We had about 30 people who had travelled and everyone was not impressed. Overall the staff was slow at their job, with no level of customer service and did not follow through with requests when asked. Everything took way too long (1.5 to 2 hours) from room service, to getting towels, to being seated at restaurants even though we had reservations. Our son got bites on his legs and arms from the sofa bed in our presidential suite. We had to have the entire mattress changed and our room fumigated. The rooms were in poor condition- rust on the frames of both sofa beds, rust on the sofa bed mattresses, very thin, uncomfortable sofa bed mattresses, large stains on the sofa, stains on the dining chairs, plugged sink in the bathroom, no body wash in the bathrooms, dirty towels being delivered. In addition, the food was terrible, with the exception of Zen teppanyaki. No flavour, very dry meat, repetitive and some of the speciality restaurants did not even serve what was shown on the menus. For example, Rio shows many different types of meat and grilled pineapple which are highlights of a Brazilian steakhouse, however we were served 2 types of meats only, no pineapple, no rice and peas. Room service is slow, lacks variety and the food is very basic. The breakfast buffet closes way too early for breakfast, especially on weekends. The staff does not care to do their job, and will sit in front of you not even trying to help you. This happened in our Diamond Club lobby in building 19 when I asked for help. This was very rude and unprofessional. I would not recommend this resort to anyone. Absolute disaster and disappointing. This was our worst family trip.
