Stayed March 2019
Rooms not great as many have mentioned, the beds were horrible. I really enjoyed the view from the room and the dolphins you can see right out front. This was truly magical. Many reasturants within walking distance. Resort staff were friendly. The pool was nice just wish it was bigger.
The crashing waves made it memorable
We stayed 3 nights in the Royal Kona Resort. We were first assigned to an upper floor room in the main building, but my girlfriend wanted to be down on the first floor. So they moved us to room 378 in the Bay Tower (which is the one closest to town). The room had a king bed, TV., A/C, 2 end tables and lamps, 2 inside chairs a tall bureau, a phone, (a high) electronic safe, small fridge, iron and ironing board, coffee maker, and a wet bar. The bathroom had a tub and shower. The lanai was huge, with 2 chairs, 2 loungers, and a table. But it had low walls, with the neighbors, so not as much privacy as desired. The window "blinds" were sliding wood blinds. Our room was a hike from the bar and pool area. And you had to go directly through a restaurant along the way. We were surprised that there was only one pool for such a large hotel. Since my girlfriend doesn't walk too well, this was an inconvenience, but being close to other restaurants in town made up for it. We used the laundry in the Lagoon Tower. While there, I checked out the lagoon, but it was closed - don't know why. As others have mentioned, there are only 7 handicap parking spaces in front of the hotel. But they are free, if you can get one. We enjoyed eating at Huggos On The Rocks restaurant, and watching the huge waves crash, over by our room. We were sure the patio would be wet when we returned, but it wasn't. Nice, but didn't seem like a resort that provided for all guests (especially those in the Bay Tower), so unlikely to return.
The staff was so welcoming and kind. We loved the location and the architecture of the building. The food and drinks were very good. The grounds were beautiful and everything was clean. My only complaint are the rooms. While they are clean with a comfortable bed, they really really need to be updated.
Everything is nice
I stayed at the Royal Kona for two weeks at the end of February and enjoyed myself thoroughly. The rooms were clean, the air-conditioning and the wi-fi operated effectively, and the staff was hospitable. The food is good, though a bit high end.The RC is near restaurants and shops on Alii Drive. Renovations are proceeding, and that is sometimes noisy, but only during the day. I like the hotel.
Beautiful from beginning to end!
This resort has the best ocean views, I could sit anywhere on the resort and see the large ocean waves wash up on the lava rocks, which sets the sage for a grand pacific sunset. They have a lagoon full of beautiful marine life, we got to swim with a small turtle. The staff is very nice and welcoming. The rooms are okay... in need of updating BUT, the grounds and the views make up for it (our room was only for sleeping and showering) because you don’t want to stay inside!! When you go to Don the Beachcomber, the resort bar and restaurant ask for Mike! He makes the best Mai Tai’s. My only disappointment was that the luau was cancelled due to covid-19 restrictions 😔 but we will definitely return!
