    3.5 stars. Fantastic beach

The beach is beautiful. Setup is easy for cocktails at either pool or beach or both. Biggest bummer for us was dinner/reservations. We checked in at 5pm and couldn’t eat until 8:30 at any restaurant because there were no reservations available. We were starving from traveling since 5am. Plenty of seating at all restaurants but they just couldn’t find a way to seat 4 of us anywhere?! We ate there for dinner 2 out of 4 nights because all reservations at normal times were taken. We could pick either 5 or 8:30. Bummer. Rooms are nice. No elevators if you’re on the second floor. I liked the grounds of the hotel. There are large guinea pig looking rodents on the property and also a few cuati to see. It was about $10 for a cab to 5th street where all the action is. Overall nice stay. Could be great with a couple small changes

    Our 8th stay here

We had not been here for two years and were anxious to return for our eighth stay here. We were not disappointed. Service was great and it makes you feel special to be recognized by staff, even after a 2 year absence. Looking forward to returning soon. This resort meets all our needs. Great beach, pool, food and service.

Para Los Propietarios- Your Brand is Indeed Outdated - Coco Cafe Needed

Dear Owners - My review will go into many details of this resort. It is very hard for me to rate your resort only as a 3. How ever I want to address many issues about it. I have traveled extensively to many resorts, & I know Playacar very well. I have always wanted to stay at your lovely resort, yes it is lovely in many aspects. This resort has a gate to enter. 1st Impressions are simply Wow! Unwelcomed greeting I've experienced. One gesture all the world recognizes is a smile 😃, staff needs training to not be so robotic. Some staff seems trained on a systematic script. No wristbands, yeah! Key cards opens your door, and you will need it to enter back into resort. Directly across the street tons of shopping. This resort is beautiful and absolutely the perfect size. Each villa has three floors maybe some have two. A circular floor that has no roof in the middle of it. Look up and see the stars. Concierge is located on first floor in a cove like area that has computer. Rooms are very clean & large, very large King comfy bed. Separate room that has large walking in closet with safe, toilet/water closet, tub jacuzzi and shower stall. Owners- you must invest in fixing the scorching hot water! Not once we're we able to have a shower without stepping away from underneath it very hot, not good. Great big patio. Make reservations as quickly as you can- be prepared to wait a very long time for your food, 1.5 hours max was our experience. In all the restaurants your server will bring water, disappear, return & take drink orders. disappear, return, with menus, disappear take order, bring food out way later, then they have to bust tables. Return and repeat, for dessert. This was in all restaurants! It isn't employees fault it's the Owners that simply need to do better Hire more employees, we paid lots of $$$ to come here. Two x's this happened, nope friends couldnt join our table....We had group of six for dinner. Another group of friends had another time slot somewhere else. But a couples spouse was tired, so he saw us and joined us...Nope, the manager was so adamant "you have reservation for six not seven!" What! You can't find another chair for one extra. Again very robotic and scriptlike. Spices was least favorite. Omgoodness, this room has to much potential. Paint it and get some modern artwork on the wall. I do not want to stare at outdated pilgrims mural on your walls while again no employees around. Disappeared again and it is awkward dead silence in this huge room/s. Wait time is unacceptable. Food is very good at all restaurants. Ventanas is lovely. Sports bar nice, never made it to live bands starts 9ish 9 30. Theater is just like a theater, did not make it in there. Grill is lovely to eat directly on beach, most beautiful beach/ocean, view is picture postcard! Again they control everything here/food, snacks. The food is absolutely contaminated by all the birds!!!! Birds all day flying and walking on the fruit pecking at the bread, pecking on the ladels. Owners - invest in getting netting around the entrance/ windows. Do you drink coffee? COCO CAFE NEEDED. The put out only one urn of COLD coffee about 6am most days, but we saw 5 40, 6 20 and other x's. So many coffee drinkers waiting in line and coffee gone in minutes. Located outside of Grill restaurant table. Invest owners in a Coco Cafe, many of your guest like to get out of the sun and have coffee in AC. The pools are awesome and they were cold, we were here week before Easter. Invest on maybe a heated pool. We were a large group And you betcha we had our same spots with towel clips, but ya know we stayed with them we didn't leave them. Only to walk beach, eat, massage across the street. But the towel game is real at all resorts. Mr. V the make a special drink hombre cart comes around and makes special yummy cocktails. Best waiters ever here, they work hard and these employees make your resort so much fun. bring TIP $$ Jorge R, Eduardo C, Javier B, Luis D, Samuel E., Manuel R, Gracias por todo. Fernanda M our great concierge was great. Gracias por todo su tiempo. Excellent Job well done. Armando C., another Best concierge gracias por su tiempo. The pool animation crew we absolutely miss you. I have pics of them dressed in night attire. Carlos, Alexa & Ricardo or is it Roberto. Bucket with an F says hola. Housekeeping Fernanda B, Guadalupe P & Guadalupe M. Thank you Small bottles on sink of body wash, shampoo no dispenser on wall. Beach is nice seaweed is present, that environment fee we must pay upon arrival is for the hard working men out there daily in the early am sunrise by hand raking, along with a tractor 🚜 hauling it away. My most favorite is this beach, best I've ever been too, hands down. I do not want anyone to think this is a bad resort it is not, I truly love it here. It gave me an impression of a Moroccan Paris feel, the exterior is just this. Brand needs alot of TLC. For the employees I write not to hurt your feelings but to consider to embrace a smile and engage with a warm welcome to all of us, we are your guest and you are the voice of your Brand. Teresa H, ItzalS. Michelle Gamez front desk you are lovely, Gerardo 😃 Give Carlos B a promotion , he does not belong in towel hut. Kudos to the towel guy assistant. Excellent guitarist in middle of day nice surprise. Danielle J., Arturo B. Marcos E., bell boys you work so hard and no elevators here in any villas, request 1st floor if you need to Alan C sports bar thanks. I would return, I believe owners can do better, in my heart this resort is a five.

    Amazing experience.

We had an amazing experience at the royal hideway playacar. The food was excellent, and the staffs were very professional. I think it's worth mentioning the effort of Carlos at the grill ; he really took care of our need during the dinner, and we had a lot of fun. The site is well-designed, and every service is a short distance from the villa. I will definitely recommend this place to family and friend. Thank you
