    Great Sta

Rosie at the buffet was 100/10. Entertainment was always wonderful, Staff were lovely, desti at the front desk is amazing. We had such a good trip. The music could cater a little more to English speaking guest though.

    Mediocre except when wanting tips

Upon arrival, there are queues at reception, quite lengthy ones. The receptionist gives you the very basic information but not much else after all....they have to serve all the people waiting behind you. Big room but sofa etc all covered in sticky plasticky plastic! The king bed was comfy enough, the wifi worked well, the air-conditioning was good, fridge was cool and the cheap spirits in the room were like some sort of tacky add-on for people to talk about. Drinks were not filled up daily, instead one had to phone and ask for the drinks to be replaced. Bathroom was adequate but again, the washing liquid was not filled up unless one asked. Towels looked like they were years old and been put through a washing process one thousand times. Corridors dark and damp. The lifts sometimes worked. The grounds look beautiful during the day, but first thing in the morning were strewn with empty beer cans, bottles, cigarette butts etc. The staff seemed to have a hard time keeping up with cleaning; although in all fairness if guests were more respectful it wouldn't be like that. Ate at the buffet restaurant. Plenty choice if you like food that sits underneath a light bulb to keep it warm. The food was edible but can't really say more than that. The coffee machine was broken and not fixed whilst I was there. Even the fruit juice machine was in a sorry state. Biggest bugbear were the waiters. Continually seeking out tips. The Indian restaurant was full of men wearing English football tops which just about says it all. Food edible and maybe up to the standard of a cheap takeaway in the UK but not much better. The staff behind the Macao bar were excellent. Happy, obliging and prompt. However the staff at the bar at the rear of the hotel presumably consisted of Mr. Grumpy and his relatives. Sour-faced unless getting tipped. However the waitresses were great. Happy to receive a tip but not in your face seeking one. In the evenings there is entertainment, some fairly good some not so. At the rear stage they had karaoke which presumably means low cost for the hotel as the guests are doing their own entertainment! The pools are OK, the beach is nice. The hotel shop is expensive but what was expected......given that the resort purports to be 5 star. I say purports because it is anything but. I got the impression that it is a tacky, run down, party hotel full of American college kids who can't handle their alcohol, staff who don't care unless getting heavily tipped. Many USA guests, a lot of Canadians, some Brits and others from Central/South America. Would I return? That's a no.

Might be a good first time resort

The resort was overall okay with multiple minor inconveniences that add up to a less than desirable experience. Our initial room did not have air (the thermostat was literally hanging off the wall) and there was a crack on the upper part of the toilet. We had to walk back to the lobby to inform the front desk because they do not pick up the phone. They sent a mechanic. He was unable to fix the issue so he arranged for us to get a new room. When we went to the front desk to receive new room keys, the staff member was baffled that we were given a new room and insisted we sign a paper without explaining what it was. After asking several questions for clarification, he stated that we had been given a free upgrade without his knowledge. This room was ABSOLUTELY NOT an upgrade. We no longer had a beautiful unobstructed ocean view. The view was now partially blocked by trees. However, the staff member insisted it was a better view and an upgrade. The air in the new room still did not get cold. The thermostat was stuck at 26 degrees Celsius (about 78 degrees Fahrenheit). The electricity went out three times during our six-day stay. It came back on relatively quickly. The water pressure is low during prime times of the day when many people may be using it, around 11am. There was an elevator right outside of our room. However, it was broken for 5 of the 6 days we were there. We had to take the stairs to the 4th floor daily or take the elevator near the lobby, which was not close to our room. The main buffet that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is pretty good. It has plenty of options with authentic Hispanic and some American options. The jerk chicken, available from 11 am - 3 pm, is delicious! It was probably the best food option in the entire resort. The other restaurants of different cuisines are only open in the evening and are also buffets. This was disappointing. Usually, the point of other restaurants is to get a different experience than the main buffet that is available for the entire day. The snack bars were lackluster with poor quality American food. Even simple options like nachos were not good because the cheese was cold. The steak restaurant is the only one that is not buffet-style. I was not impressed but it was not bad either. The best restaurant was the one with Spanish cuisine. I was impressed and the buffet options were actually tasty. The liquor at the resort is cheap and watered down. I took several shots of tequila and was not even buzzed. However, I did get a headache later that night. For reference, 3 shots of tequila is usually when I get buzzed. I had 5-6 there with no effect. The minibar in the room may be great for people who do not have a liquor preference. At 30, I no longer can indulge in any type of alcohol without consequences. I saw multiple reviews saying there were bugs, specifically roaches. Fortunately, I did not see any bugs in our room or common spaces. Only flies in the dining areas. The overall cleanliness of the resort could be improved but not unacceptable. Overall, for young people who may have not been to other resorts or just like the party/influencer vibe of this resort, it may be a perfect choice. However, after experiencing other resorts, I was disappointed. For the price, I guess it was to be expected. I probably should have started with that, lol.

Good Time But Not Much Entertainment

We enjoyed our stay but found the music at the party pool was electronic dance/latin music. If you like any other genre (classic rock) you won’t find it on property around the pools. The party pool got very disgusting after a few days (cigarette butts and a condom package floated towards me) so we ended up going to the quiet pool. On the days they have the Pink Party & the Jungle Party at another Riu resort, they have NO MUSIC at the party pool because the entertainment crew take the speakers & sound board to the other resort! Really? The other Riu doesn’t have a sound system? Seems strange? The entertainment at night was lacking, no dancing, just soloists singing songs. The rooms are tired but ok. We still enjoyed meeting people and had good weather. It was a break from our day to day.

14 night stay and we loved it

Just got back after a 14 nights stay with a group of five ranging from 24 to 50+. The hotel is amazing, it's massive, great party hotel and parties at the other Riu with free transport, pools are all cleaned daily but the party pool can get a bit rank at the end of the day which in our eyes is standard do to the nature of the pool and at least it keeps the other pools quiet. The food is ok, lots of variations and fresh fruit and as with all hotels gets samey after 2 weeks but you will not starve. Steak house we thought was the best for speciality and the 2 buffet's are great, we preferred the one at the back of the hotel. The Indian, we did not like but were English and love a Madras that is not not the menu. Cocktails are all slushys with alcohol of your choice so I personally cannot say they are bad, Bananamama with rum is a winner. Rooms are dated, clean and functional with swans on the bed a couple of times, Aircon also good in our room. Don't watch TV on holiday so cannot comment if it worked. Beaches amazing and the traders do not bother you. Now the staff.. what a great bunch of hard workers who actually enjoy their work and it shows and we were never asked to tip. Yes there is stuff laying around but that's due to inconsiderate guests assuming it's one staff member to each guest to follow them around cleaning up, they are always walking round cleaning and being drinks to the sunbeds. Overall for a budget holiday in the sun with cocktails, amazing beach, book it. FYI the sea takes no prisoners, we lost one pair of prescription sunglasses, one pair of ordinary sunglasses and a snorkel and when it sucks you under you are on the spin cycle till you find your feet. We did 2 trips, sanoa island and the night buggies which had a rave a cave and wild tarantulars wandering around, both excellent. Another FYI Shein sliders shrink in the heat.
