Disappointing Outdoor Dining Experience at RIU Miami Beach
I typically enjoy staying at RIU properties, but unfortunately, my recent experience at RIU Miami Beach left me disappointed—particularly due to a very unpleasant outdoor dining situation. While dining outside one evening, my meal was repeatedly disrupted by a flock of birds swarming the area. It became impossible to enjoy my dinner, despite having paid for drinks and being seated at a designated table. The situation felt unsanitary and made what should have been a relaxing experience stressful and uncomfortable. In an effort to resolve the issue, I spoke directly with the on-site manager, Carmen. I brought up my concerns twice and respectfully asked if there was anything that could be done. Unfortunately, she informed me that she was unable to offer any resolution. I found the response dismissive and unhelpful, which was particularly disappointing given the reputation RIU hotels typically maintain. This experience fell short of the standard I expect from a hotel of this caliber. I hope management will take feedback like this seriously and consider implementing solutions to improve the outdoor dining environment for future guests. RIU Miami Beach has many positive features, but this particular incident left a lasting negative impression.

Good choice as long as you’re aware of the hotel’s pros and cons
The biggest pro of this hotel: the location! It’s probably one of the best beachfront locations you can get at this price point. We’ve been here before 7 years ago and while I wouldn’t stay here again for a more resort like vacation, it was a good choice for the 5 days we spent here in Miami Beach pre cruise. The property itself is a bit outdated - most things are the same as they were 7 years ago and a refurbishment would definitely benefit the hotel. You should not compare the hotel with European and Caribbean RIUs because the experience is totally different - just a small pool, a small restaurant and bar and no entertainment. It’s more like a city hotel at a beachfront location. However, the pool is large enough, there are plenty of sun loungers and there are also sun loungers and umbrellas on the beach which is great (this wasn’t the case during our previous stay). A big con is the room layout: the beds are quite small for 2 persons, the closet is way too small for more than 2 people and the room layout with the bathroom (sinks) being largely in the room itself and thus not private is terrible. I really hope they will make the bathrooms fully private/separated from the room itself if they ever refurbish this place, that would be a great improvement. The cleanliness was sufficient. The staff was overall very friendly and the service was always quick. The breakfast buffet was good - better than during our previous stay. We didn’t like the half board dinner buffet 7 years ago, but maybe this is now improved as well. The snacks poolside were good as well. The best part of the hotel is definitely the location! It’s very close to all places of interest within Miami Beach. There’s a free trolley stop in front of the hotel, as well as a stop for other (paid) bus lines. If you like to walk, it’s also very doable to walk to lively places such as Lincoln Road Mall and Ocean Drive (also via the boardwalk). I personally think this hotel has a great price/quality for its location! If you’re looking for a luxurious resort stay this hotel will not be the best fit for you, but if you fancy a few days at Miami Beach it definitely is.

Needs attention in some areas!
Service is excellent at this hotel. Staff is amazing. The beach is good but there needs to be more attention here. Too much garage throughout the day around and under the seats. There were 3 guys in the booth and they did nothing to help us get a chair. Most sitting in there eating and talking. I did not see anyone picking up garage one time on the beach while I was there. The wait staff was walking over the garbage. This is NOT a luxury resort. It’s nice, but nothing luxury about it. Our room had rust spots all over our mirror and the room was simple. Nothing special. Breakfast buffet is a zoo. So many people and the entrance to get in and to a table needs to be changed. It’s so compact, small and cluttered that everyone is bumping into each other trying to get food and a table. Need to redesign this! Pool area was so packed and way too many people. The outside bar menu drinks were very good but what was disappointing is they do not serve anything fresh and only FROZEN food. The bar people told me this because I asked. Besides the salads, the guacamole and shrimp along with the entire menu is NOT fresh. We’re so close to the sea and you mean to tell me that you can’t serve fresh fish or even fresh guacamole?! Knowing this, I will not be staying at this resort in the future. On our last day we were able to get a day room at another hotel and they provided fresh everything. What a difference. Thanks to the staff but the rest of this hotel is mediocre.

Wonderful stay
Our 7th floor ocean front room was so relaxing with such an amazing view, especially from the balcony. The pool was peaceful, and the beach lounge chairs/umbrellas and drink service were great. We loved the location of the hotel, as it was on a good stretch of beach with easy entry into ocean. The buffet breakfast had several food options. However, it would’ve been nice to have more homemade items versus store-bought muffins, pastries, etc. This is a quiet resort, not a party pool, so it was great to stay at and then go out in the evening for more lively activities. Overall, we were really happy here and service was great!
