    Amazing Beach!

Almost 2 hour ride to resort from airport. Welcome punch, but room not ready. Room is oceanfront but very basic with little decor or personality to it. Clean and neat. You will get two full beds pushed together in the Jr. Suite. Beware sleeping on the crack in the middle. LOL! Buffet food is horrible. Go when it first opens. Jerk Shack is the best. They sometimes have lobster, but try to hide it, so you must ask for it. If you give them a tip they will give you a larger lobster. Lobster is also on the main Buffet but only on certain nights.  There are two local restaurants that sell lobster on the beach for $25. The owners will come to you, take your order, and bring it back to you.  You pay when they bring your food.  It was delicious! The beach is one of the best ones I have ever been to. Water is clear, clean, calm, warm and shallow. Loved it. Would come here again just for the beach alone. Vendors are all over the beach and most will leave you alone but some can be pushy. There are three pools, but why bother when you have this beautiful beach?  We went to the pool once for a foam party (super fun)! We never returned to the pools afterwards. Restaurants are almost impossible to get into. I snagged the Steakhouse and Japanese.  Japanese is a 2 out of 5. Bland food and tough meat. Steakhouse was a little better, but steak was very fatty and tough. The crabcake appetizer was cold. No real flavor to anything. Another 2 out of 5. The service was also not the best at this restaurant.  Do the Catamaran sunset cruise to Rick's Cafe. It is so much fun. It's cheaper to book through the vendors on the beach. I suggest taking another separate trip to Rick's. Once you get there you won't want to leave. The workers here are very nice and helpful so that's a plus. Overall, I would come back to this resort but I would make plans to leave every day to eat at local restaurants.  I travel a lot and this RIU wins the award for worst food ever. It also wins for best beach. I care about the beach not the food, so yeah I'll probably be back. This was my 4th trip to Jamaica.

    Great times in Negril!

We visited Negril Jamaica March 30-April 6, 2024 and stayed at the RIU Palace Tropical Bay. We were immediately comped a room upgrade and it was pretty spectacular. A large and clean and well outfitted room. The hotel and grounds were spectacular as was the beach, and If I must use one word it would be "clean". Staff were constantly cleaning. The food was spectacular and we ate most of our meals at the buffet. The selections and quality were varied and high quality, including all the meats as well as shrimp, mussels, lobster, fish etc. The staff were wonderful, warm, kind and attentive. They went above and beyond in assuring that we were taken care of. Special mention to Darvel and a very pregnant Serena who went the extra mile for us. The specialty restos were a bit challenging to book and felt a bit rushed since they had two seatings, but once there I had the best lamb loin of my life. The beach was spectacular and we spent most of our time by the Jerk shack which offered jerk chicken and sausages and if you asked, grilled lobster. They also had pizza made to your specs one day. This was our pre lunch, lunch. A huge thank you to Mike, Andre who brought us drinks all day long on the beach. There were many day activities on the beach for all tastes and skill levels often led by a very energetic JC. The evening entertainment was a great band which played various songs for an hour and then were joined by a reggae artist singing standards. That was followed by a stage show with various themes, very professionally executed. Kudos to all the young people who did this after a full day of work. Quite impressive. Now for the disappointing stuff. This was not the Riu's fault but we booked an activity with the Sunwing rep on site for a day long catamaran cruise. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the location we were told that it was overbooked by 30 people and we could still go but there would be no place to sit. We were asked to bow out and return on the Friday. This meant we wasted a day and missed out on other activities and the ability to book retos for supper. When we addressed the issue with the Sunwing rep, she claimed ignorance, tried to blame us for leaving the site and claimed that there was nothing to do about it. We were not amused and asked to speak to a manager which she claimed that she could not get a hold of, for days. A chance encounter with the Riu manager Arturo somehow resulted to us not only being booked on another catamaran outing but a more luxurious one. We are very grateful to Arturo, who's responsibility it was not to fix this, (since the Sunwing people are independent to the resort). Other than this minor snafu, we thank the staff, we had a wonderful time because of them and wish them a wonderful summer.

    Great Family Get away

Travelled April3-10 Pleasant check in, with efficient service. Resort is spotlessly clean, from Lobby to restaurants & guest rooms. Food& Drink Service was excellent, staff at the Buffet treated our whole Family of 20 like Friends, they went out of their way to be kind & over the top for service from breakfast to dinner. Decorated tables, friendly smiles & remembering our drink preferences, from coffee to Mimosas for Breakfast, the best service we have had at an all inclusive Buffet ever & we have travelled extensively. Thank you to all of the Dining Service Team. The food at the Buffet was plentiful& always of high quality, delicious healthy options were always available The chefs were happy & greeted everyone. The a la carte restaurants this is where the biggest opportunity is, we are a family of 20, all ages & the only way to get a dinner together was Complicated had to add the Riu app & try to have every guest, each room book the same restaurant at the same time, impossible to do, seniors didn’t have the app capacity nor did the younger children in adjoining rooms, we asked the concierges for help they insisted & reinforced that this was the only option, as a result we were motivated able to enjoy a whole Family sit down dinner, however 1/2 of our group went to the Japanese restaurant & found the Service to be awful , serving staff rude, ridiculed our family, completely unprofessional, they left without finishing their dinners. This was unfortunate. The pools& Beach are clean shallow & warm, great beach servers they were all wonderful, however we couldn’t relax as we were Constantly bombarded by sales people coming up selling cigars, braids, hats, pot & photography, too much! Be sure to try the Jerk chicken hut on the beach its delicious We loved the entertainment team, fun& energetic All in all a very good family, fun or couples resort We will return Male sure you try thr Beach

Good property with a great staff.

This is a very nice property with an amazing beach. The staff really made the trip great. Inderia in the lobby bar took great care of us and is a kind, hardworking woman. Sharon, Lynanna and Bianca also are very friendly and accommodating. Jackie Williams catered to our needs each morning and afternoon in the buffet. Dinner at the resort has something for everyone. The specialty restaurants can be a little hard to get into. We did eat at the steakhouse and Italian. The pasta dishes were good. The beef was a little chewy. There were a lot of younger children at this resort. The pools got loud at times. You can escape much of the noise by going to either end of the beach.
