This was my 5th time at this resort, and I always love it. This trip was to do a wedding ceremony on the beach and my husband's first time there as well as his parents. We had a group of 17 and everyone enjoyed their time here. The Coffee shop in the lobby was probably the only disappointing thing but only because of the variety and knowledge of drinks.

A holiday for the lack of air conditioning with consistent fobs offs for a fix date
We arrived as a party of 13 for a special birthday celebration late on Friday 18th October. We stayed for 10 nights. The air conditioning 'worked' that night and the next. ( The temperature could not be changed). From Sunday 20th October it ceased to work and we had to endure 26.5 degrees in our rooms. To make matters worse no area of the hotel had air con either! Trying to eat a meal in the closed conditions of a restaurant in excess of 32degrees makes you feel ill and lose your appetite. We complained to Riu reception 4 times and was told 'we are working on it' and more frustratingly that it was also fixed the last 2 times. It's terrible that the coolest place the entire holiday was the coach on the way back to the airport! I discovered on checkout that they had just started offering alternative accommodation to other guests in nearby Montego Bay, why was this not offered to us? On a group holiday we were going straight to bed after trying to eat as we were sitting in sweaty clothes drained from the heat. We spent a lot of money on this holiday and missed 8 evenings due to heat exhaustion when we should be out as a family celebrating. Great points- The lovely staff, a shout out to Andre and Judith working tirelessly in the heat on the beach. Fantastic beautiful beach. Large rooms with lovely sea views. Good drinks, particularly well made in the reception bar. I have stayed in many 5 star resorts in the Caribbean and this resort is not 5 star for food and amenities. The buffet has a good selection but the restaurant food is not up to standard. The steaks are very chewy and the service so slow. The Italian is not really an Italian which is a shame as you need a change of food. It's just ok food, nothing special. The scheduling of eating times is odd, you either eat at a time that super early or you eat at 8.15, no other choice. This means that you miss the entertainment, but again it is nothing special. There is a serious lack of toilets in this resort ? Only one is a nice toilet that's in the reception. If you are on the beach expect a long walk to the toilet. If you are in a restaurant expect the same walk to the same toilet. A suggestion for management, let the beach staff wear shorts and Short sleeve clothing? The entertainment staff do, working in extreme heat in full length trousers and tights is terrible for your beach staff welfare. This could be an amazing hotel with some attention to food quality, menus and the addition of better facilities and listening to customers complaints when there are major issues as we had. Both Riu and Tiu will be receiving complaints from our group and many others on the air conditioning mis information and lies.

Everything we expected and more
We came to for 4 nights to join friends who were staying for 7 so booked very last minute. From the moment we checked in everything was wonderful Taj was extremely helpful as I had forgotten my bank card. The first night we went to the white party and the entertainment team were such fun to be around making sure everyone enjoyed themselves & felt included. We are in the Japanese , Gormet & steakhouse the food was outstanding I had lobster on 2 occasions. The chef on the steak house made it very Persoanl I think his name was Sam he came and spoke to everyone. We took the boat across to Ricks Cafe again everyone on board made it a great trip from the guy who booked us tonTiti the host.

Ok nothing spectacular
Trip from airport to hotel took almost 3 hours, on return to the airport it was approximately 2 hours. Nothing in surrounding area apart from more hotels. Turn right outside hotel and walk for ten minutes and there’s a service station with snacks, drinks, cigarettes and oddly alcohol. There’s also a cash machine which was out of service and we were hijacked by the market people selling tourist souvenirs and out of date coffee beans and ground coffee. Prices are a total rip off. We ended up spending a fortune on tat as the people wouldn’t stop harassing us to buy things, so I would avoid. I must give credit to the reception staff at this hotel they are friendly and also go above and beyond to assist where they can. Air conditioning was stuck between 24-25C. Rooms were uncomfortably hot and humid. Couldn’t sleep at night it was awful. I have since discovered on a hotel facebook page this issue is ongoing in majority of the rooms. Complained to reception a few times someone came and looked at it and explained the basics (which I already knew) the issue was never resolved. Some of the waiting staff were amazing (mostly the younger ones) however there was an issue getting drinks/coffees at meal times waiting staff seemed to prefer standing around chatting. Food is plentiful and a great selection but nothing special very much quantity over quality. Even the a la carte restaurants were pretty poor. There are some great restaurants a short taxi trip from hotel. Having stayed in numerous 5 star all inclusive resort hotels across the world I must say I was fairly disappointed and unimpressed. The cafe and daiquiri bar areas near reception were probably the best, cafe does a particularly good cherry cheesecake. The late night food area by the pool looked ok. I never ate anything from here. Tried to grab a coffee on several occasions and only the Nescafé machine was working and the coffees were awful from it. Drinks and cocktails from the bar are of an excellent standard. I only had one alcoholic drink (cocktail) per day due to lack of sleep and the heat but bar staff really know their stuff when it comes to cocktails. Entertainment was pretty mediocre with the exception of the reggae bands. There was a wear white party on the beach with poor attendance (I went for a look) I don’t actually own any white clothing so kind of felt a bit ostracised and looked more like it was geared towards staff than residents. This hotel seriously needs to up their standards.
