    Love RIU Hotels

This is the second RIU hotel stay I’ve had and it definitely did not disappoint me. In the midst of the Corona virus, you can tell the staff take extra precautions to make sure patrons are safe. The food was delicious, service by most was exceptional, and the rooms were clean and beautiful. The beach was rocky but the water was gorgeous. Lots of people trying to sell you excursions and souvenirs on the beach, but I kind of expected that. I would definitely visit this particular hotel again.

Would have been higher score if the website had been correct.

We stayed at the Riu Palace Peninsula hotel from the 5th to the 9th of September. I'll start off with the good things. The staff there are excellent and very friendly and helpful. During our entire stay they were more than willing to accommodate any requests that we had that they were allowed to. The hotel was very clean and well maintained and the food was typical of an all-inclusive resort. Now for the negative . We were led to believe that there would be 24-hour room service and also a mini bar in the room. When we inquired about both of these we were told they were not available due to COVID. I cannot understand the reasoning behind either of those being unavailable because of COVID. They took the alcohol dispensers out of the room and seeing as alcohol is the main ingredient and the active ingredient in hand sanitizer I do not understand why that would be an issue. If they removed the dispensers, then they should have stocked the mini bar with individual bottles of alcohol for consumption. All that was in the mini bar was soft drinks and Dos Equis or Tecate beer. As far as the room service goes, I do not know of any other way that would more effectively limit your contact with others than to have no one coming in contact with you other than room service. Without room service we were forced to go down into the crowded common areas in the restaurants and bars to get food and drinks. If you're planning a stay anytime soon I would highly recommend that you look into these issues.

    Amazing Vacation

I was truly blown away by how amazing this hotel is. Everything is impeccably clean, employees are kind, food is delicious. I am so happy we chose RIU for our needed vacation. Only drawback was the mattresses. They were not the most comfortable but since we were only using the room to sleep it didnt matter to us. Will recommend RIU to all my family and friends.

Where is your service and guest appreciation?

Reading some of these reviews, makes me wonder about individuals standards. 1. You are lied the minute you check in. “You don’t have an oceanfront view with the Suite you booked, however I will upgrade for free”. Newsflash ALL rooms are oceanfront. They don’t have rooms facing the back side of the hotel. One gimmick to ask for a gratuity the minute you check in. 2. Rooms are poor in overall quality. Horrible bedding and pillows From 1-10, I will grade 5. 3. Staff work really hard and underpaid to make you feel good and accommodate your needs. I will grade a 9.5. However, this does not apply to upper management. 4. Pool area: When was the last time you saw staff washing concrete using buckets to take water from the pool? In the 7 days, I did not notice any staff hosing down the pool area. Instead those poor workers kept using buckets to take water from the pool to pour it in concrete. 5. Restrooms by the pool: This so called resort does not have a single restroom outside or around any of the pool area. Guests have to walk for 10 minutes to go inside the hotel to use restrooms. One must wonder with many drinking in the pool, how many get lazy to walk inside the hotel soaking wet to use restroom. Complete disaster. 6. Outside showers near pool area: Some work and some don’t. Push buttons broken. Pool area concrete semi clean. 7. Vendors are there to lie and con people. BE AWARE AND WARNED. I discovered that the hotel is aware of these individuals conning their guests and they won’t do anything about it. Instead I will quote hotel managers answer “you’re in a foreign Country, these vendors are capable of doing everything and anything”. Well at this point line was drawn not to ever go to another RIU hotel. I have traveled throughout different parts of the world and especially various parts of Mexico. This particular establishment will receive D- from me. Of course feel free to spend your precious family time and money and experience what most have. Good luck.

    Overall had a great time!

This was our first time in Cancun (went for Labor Day weekend), but not our first all-inclusive. The good: Everything was super clean. People were always cleaning. The pools were nice and so was the beach. All the restaurants were open every night and you didn't need to make a reservation. Just show up. The buffet items were pretty varied and the food at Krystal was decent. I want to give a shout out to Flavio. He was a fantastic server, and my honey kept trying to steal him when we weren't seated in his area. I didn't go to any of the shows, but it was over by 11 which is great because you could hear it in our room. The bad: The VIP adult restaurant was "COVID Closed" or at least I assume. The sign just said closed. The food at the Japanese restaurant was pretty disappointing. The app I ordered was just raw fish and rice. The description said that it came with a couple of other ingredients. There was also no asparagus on my main dish. Instead, they gave me about 1/3 of a zucchini. The table next to me got the same dish and had asparagus. Not sure what happened there. Desert was also flavorless. The weird: The drinks in the fridge were not cold. We called customer service and they said the point of the fridge was to keep the drinks (water, beer, and soda) room temperature.....WTF? They did offer to send someone up with ice (BTW the ice machine turned out to be in a completely different building. About 15 minutes after the ice guy showed up, someone showed up with a new mini-fridge. He confirmed that the original fridge was just to keep things room temperature and told us that the new one has a compressor and will make the drinks cold.
