Mexico Holiday
Lovely hotel and staff very well maintained ideal location right on the beach with its own pools. The buffet was just amazing with ample of choice at breakfast and evening dinner. There are also several restaurants around the hotel

Wonderful!
Wonderful resort with even better people! The staff is so kind and helpful. Beach is beautiful, walking distance to markets, amazing food with unlimited a la cartes. The only thing I didn’t love was the layout of the bathroom but this will not stop us from visiting again.

Perfect Vacation
I loved this property and the access to all of the other RIU’s within walking distance. We visited the Yucatan to see the monkeys. Walking to the 7Eleven was very nice too. I felt so safe in the Playacar neighborhood. We will be back!!

Lovely Time, But Not So Palacial
Just returned from a 2 week trip to the Riu Palace Mexico. This is our third time here and have also stayed at the Riu Tequilla and Riu Playacar close by. We were last here in 2020, and we do love the place, with it’s great staff and beautiful beach. However, although we had a lovely time with great weather, we felt that it was definitely not as good as before. The food was generally very good, but the evening buffet’s were not themed as much as they used to be, so got a bit samey. The Steakhouse, Krystal and Mexican were good, but the Japanese and Italian restaurants were average. In fact the menus on the Asian and Italian restaurants on the non-Palace restaurants seemed better. The rooms were showing their age, with the bath looking a bit worn, the air conditioning was noisy, so had to switch it off at night to sleep, which made the room hot and then the fridge kicked in and was as noisy as the A/C. The toilet door did not shut properly and the lights above the sinks kept flickering. We did report these things but nothing got resolved. OK it was not the end of the world, but it was irritating. The bed was hard and the pillows were not very comfortable either. The door keys kept decoding as well. On the drinks front, the piano bar remained good, but the drinks in the other bars seemed less alcoholic and were not made as well as they had been in the past. We hated the foam party each week and hoped that this might have been dropped, but no. This just seemed a way to try and sell Coco Bongo tickets. Loud music, scantily clad Coco Bongo girls .... really? The Riu Palace Mexico used to be something special, but an increase in hen parties, and spring breakers, along with loud music around the pool would sadly make us think of trying another chain of hotels. Who are Riu aiming their Palaces at now? The evening entertainment is the same at all the Riu’s in the Playa Del Carmen area, so I don’t think it is ‘palacial’ enough for the extra money any more. The Riu Palace Riviera Maya looked in better condition compared to the Palace Mexico, but I think it is just that the latter is due a revamp.

We loved it!
Yes, the property is older, but we didn't notice any major problems. We did have an issue with some of the outlets in our room, but not a big deal. The bed was comfortable and we slept well (despite the slamming doors and loud shouting from some guests). My favorite was the room above us blasting music at 4AM :) The staff was wonderful and friendly. Very hardworking. We ate at 3 of the ala carte restaurants (Japanese, Mexican and Steak House). The Japanese was our favorite. If you don't get to the restaurants when they open and there are no seats, don't get mad at the staff. Just show up earlier or be prepared to wait. The shows were good (loved the Silent Disco!) and the White Party at RIU Tequila was so much fun. I just wish the activities were a little more spread out through the day. Shout out to Tori! We will hopefully be back someday!
