    Just ok

Air fresheners throughout the property are too overbearing. The speciality restaurants are a level lower quality than the quality you get from a cruise speciality restaurant. Shower head came off the wall when turned on and gave bruises. It was reattached in a swift manner. Loud partiers smoking weed woke us up. Good pools.

RIU Palace Las Americas: Beautiful Start That Fizzled by the Finish

We just got back from a 7 night stay at RIU Palace Las Americas and walked away with a mix of unforgettable highlights and frustrating letdowns. Let’s start with the good: the food was definitely a standout. Especially the breakfast and lunch buffets, which were packed with variety and flavor. The specialty restaurants were good, though nothing truly remarkable. The staff, overall, was friendly, hardworking, and constantly moving to keep things running smoothly. The hotel itself was spotless and beautifully maintained. The pool area was beautiful and vibrant! Perfect for lounging, people watching, or jumping into the occasional pool game. For the first several days, it felt like paradise, but after a while, the novelty wore off. There’s only so much time you can spend drinking, sunbathing, and doing the same activities every day before you feel worn out. That said, there were several downsides that affected our experience. The drinks were a major disappointment. Any fruit-based cocktail had an odd, almost chemical taste, like the purée had been stored in melting plastic. The 24-hour food station was aweful!! The pizza dough was always raw, the burgers had a weird tasting mystery meat, the queso was basically buttery water, and the scorched nacho toppings(bean/meat mix) had clearly been reheated too many times. Eventually, we relied on getting sandwiches and desserts early from the Cappuccino Bar for late-night bites. The biggest frustration was our room's air conditioning, or lack thereof. It was hot, humid, and downright uncomfortable for the entire stay!! We had to blow-dry the mirror just to see ourselves. Despite calling multiple times, no one ever came to check it out. After the third or fourth complaint, we were simply told, “That’s just how it is.” Meanwhile, our son’s room right next door was perfectly cool, and a friend’s room down the hall was practically freezing. Clearly, it wasn’t just, “how it is.” One day, it rained almost nonstop, so we were left to sit around in the theater or lobby area. It would have been a great opportunity for the entertainment team to step in with games, trivia, or something to engage guests. Instead, we played cards and did our best to entertain ourselves, but 12 hours is a long time to kill when you’ve got nowhere to go and nothing happening. We also found the lack of daily activities disappointing. Besides a few pool games and one fitness session, there really wasn’t much offered to keep guests active or entertained. Even with a couple of excursions, seven days felt too long to be doing the same things over and over again. Would we return? Definitely, but only for a shorter stay and with lower expectations. Overall, the first three days were fantastic. By day four and five, the excitement had worn off, and by day six, we were more than ready to head home.

    Best Vacay

My boyfriend took me to Cancun for my 40th birthday. Riu Palace Las Americas was amazing. The staff made my birthday extra special and they assisted my boyfriend, now fiancé, in planning a special private dinner for him to propose.
