review of my stay at RIU palace costa mujeres.
I had a great time during my stay and enjoyed everything. there was so much to do and such great food. the activities pool was my favorite! I loved all the games they played and they were so entertaining. I really loved watching angel dance everyday
Second time as good as first
This is our second time in this resort. This time we had our family with us. Everybody liked the property very much. Food was very good, we mostly ate at the buffet. Water in pools nice and comfortable which is a big factor for us when choosing resort. For instance Iberostar Lindo which we have visited in past had water in the pools freezing. They have 5 pools, 2 with swim up bars where kids are not allowed, one sport pool, one adult pool and one pool for families. We really like the layout of the resort where is really close from pools to the beach. We did go next door to Dunamar and found it very crowded and small step down from RPCM. Also everything in Dunamar is flat where RPCM restaurants, buffet, bars and theater are elevated, you get better views and overall feel is just so nice. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anybody. We will be back again.
Be aware of Food Poising & ruining your vacation
Was hopping to have some quality time with the family and celebrating my birthday. Things turned south on 1st day, Cons: - Randomly assigning rooms different floors different buildings with no option to combine them on same side of the building at least. - Staff barely speaks English, other than saying hi, if you don't speak Spanish don't ask them they can not answer you - Gym closes @ 8 pm and jacuzzi by reservation max 6 people and not even hot - I don't drink, tried a couple of cocktails was too cheap and so sweet - Food was ok at open buffet , really no taste specially deserts - Flies was everywhere in the restaurant, don't be shocked if you find one flying over food in bar - Mosquitos are the worst, you can not stay in balcony or have a work on beach unless you wear long sleeves, you have been warned - Water splash close @ 5pm !!! - And finally be aware of any Shushi or raw fish offered in whole resort specially Krystal restaurant, the worst by far. I good food poising same day was there, spend the day and next day throwing up and dihedra, they have no medic on premise, have to get one for $260 and spend my next 2 days in ER Bros: - Covid test for travelers in hotel for free
Beautiful family vacation
We just spent last week at this resort. It was very clean and beautiful. We loved everything about it. We were traveling with a toddler and a baby and the resort was very accommodating. We had a variety of rooms. The private pool room was definitely amazing. Our son and family had an ocean view suite which during the day was breathtaking but unfortunately (still trying to figure why the design)the suites are directly under the entertainment stage. The sound (bass) and vibration actually shook the room. Besides that everything else was spectacular.
Included a quarantine stay after testing positive
The first part of my review will be on the place itself. My husband ended up testing positive for COVID two days before our flight so I also have a review for that below in case anyone wants to understand/know the process. The place itself I would have given a 3. The food was not good. Everything was bland or looked like it had been sitting out for a while at the buffet, which was your only real option for breakfast and lunch. The restaurants for dinner were a bit better, but still not great. They did offer a sparkling rose at the Fusion restaurant and sake at the Asian restaurant to start - which was cool. The main bar area was very busy and loud at night, but they had a great guy playing music on the piano. Creating a fund/cool atmosphere. The wait for eating at the restaurants was long - which I was surprised to find out they'd close some of the restaurants at night when they couldn't keep up with the people eating at the open ones. The pool area was nice and clean. LOTS of umbrellas. The swim up bar provided at least some shade in the pool all day - a thing I haven't seen at any all-inclusives. The service was amazing at the pool. Our server walked by every ten minutes asking if we would like a drink. We never felt neglected. People complained there was only one bathroom at the pool - but I never had an issue with waiting. There are bathrooms one floor up next to the restaurants as well. The towel cards were something we weren't used to. I understand people are wasteful so it's kind of needed, but I like an extra towel to support my back on the lounge chairs and we only got one towel at a time. The service at the hotel was just as good as the other hotels I've been to that are rated higher. Room service was timely, the mini bar was stocked every day without fail, everyone smiled and was incredibly friendly. The only reason I'd give it a 3 rating was the food. Since you're stuck at a resort, the food has to be decent. The reason for the 4? The way they handled the quarantine after getting a positive test was nice. Unfortunately, it cut our vacation short, but that is not the hotels fault. You get tested two days before getting on a flight - that way if you get a false positive you have a second opportunity to test (the CDC requires a negative test to get on a flight). Once he tested positive we were given orange wristbands and sent back to our room to be quarantined. We were in that room until our checkout date when they moved us to another room (which we were given 10 days to stay for free). The only difference in the room was the view - we had an ocean view to start, but were moved to a tropical/ground view. For a "free" hotel room we were a little nervous, but they provided a very nice room. They filled the mini bar every day (we asked for beer and water). When quarantining we called the front desk and learned it was a little confusing unless you talked to the manager since not everyone knew what we were asking. The room service menu (what you order from in quarantine) only has 6 items on it (sandwiches and salads), but you can order from the buffet if you're in our situation. Not everyone knows this, so you just have to mention it when you call. Ordering was difficult since we didn't know what was on the buffet. We just asked when we called - originally we tried to ask for burritos, fajitas, sushi, etc and they didn't have them. But once we just asked them for a list it made it easier. Breakfast is served by putting an order tag on the door handle before 4am. The breakfast is all cold items (hard boiled eggs, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee, etc). The testing itself is the only additional cost (unless your airline, transfers, etc charge change fees) and that's $25 a test. The hotel covers the first one, but you pay for the subsequent tests. The fact that they're reasonably priced was nice. An outside company does the testing - we would make an appointment the night before (after getting another positive test) and then call the manager the next morning to notify them. They had to tell the testers to go up to our room to test us since we couldn't leave. The testers really came whenever they wanted. We had a 9am test and they came at noon. It's a bit stressful since you're waiting on your test to find out if you can change your flight and go home. But that's not on the hotel either. Overall, based on the food we wouldn't go back. Our experience wasn't great because of testing positive, but that was not the hotel's fault. They did a great job at not making us feel like unwanted guests (staying for free). We were treated with kindness and good service the entire time.
