Best Hotel I Have Ever Experienced in Mexico
It takes more than a beautiful, impeccably cleaned hotel to thoroughly enjoy one’s vacation. Although I fully appreciated the Hotel’s upscale cleaning regimen, it was the employees that made my vacation a beautiful one-of-a-kind vacation. There are too many names to list… each one of you were grounded, humble and kind with a passion of serving their customers. Hats off the chefs for catering to my dietary needs!
Amazing resort and even more amazing staff.
Executive summary: Amazing resort and staff. This hotel exceeded my expectations. They were very good at following COVID protocols and reminding guests to wear masks and use hand sanitizer when in indoor spaces. Masks were not required in outdoor spaces and, of course when sitting to eat and/or drink. RPB was terrible at this. Many of the staff wore masks below their noses and often did not remind guests to follow protocols. The guests there when I was were often aggressive in invading personal space (e.g., to hip check you to get in front or over you to get something from a a buffet). That may have been an aberration but it did impact that vacation. Things felt much more polite at RPCM which made me MUCH more comfortable. I have a few nitpick items but they were SO trivial in the overall scope of my trip. I'll start with the pro, list a few cons/exceptions, and finish with a few tips. Details: Tomorrow I conclude my 20 night holiday at the RIU Palace Costa Mujeres (RPCM). After visiting other RIU Palaces (e.g., Riu Palace Bavaro, Punto Cana, RPB, for 21 nights last November 2020), I expected this experience to be similar. While I enjoyed the PC resort, this one blew it away. PROS: Whomever manages this resort is doing an amazing job. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE on staff was very friendly, helpful and did a great job. Reception: Starting at reception, I was greeted with kindness and warmth. This was not the case at RPB where it was lukewarm and almost an inconvenience to check me in. Each time I went back to Reception at RPCM, every single person was helpful and even solved problems that I did not ask them to solve, e.g. anticipating that a day trip may make me late for my COVID test and pushing it back for me out of sheer kindness. Housekeeping: The housekeeping staff were always lovely, did an amazing job, and sometimes left sweet towel art in my room. Each one of them was a joy. Grounds keeping and Maintenance: each always had a hola for me. They keep the resort in beautiful shape. Coffee bar "Cappuccino": delicious Latte Macchiatos made to perfection-- again with warmth and kindness. Pepe's pool bar: Same great attitude and warmth. Because I was there so much I actually remembered the names of a few standouts: Diego and Chupa (maybe Chapa??). The remembered what I ordered, greeted me warmly and had my drinks ready in a few seconds. Restaurants: Given COVID is still threatening us I chose not to eat at any of the indoor restaurants. I spend the vast majority of meals between Pepe's and Spaces, the main outdoor buffet restaurant. The food was very good and the choices were mind boggling. Every lunch and dinner had a great array of sushi, fish choices, various meets, an Italian and Mexican food station, fresh carved various meats, salads, amazing fresh fruit, desserts for miles, and on and on. The chefs (e.g., the ones that warmed corn tortillas for tacos and the omelette bar were quick and happy to fill your plate. My favorite servers, although they were all wonderful, were Lily at breakfast and lunch, Augusto and Jesus at dinner. I realize I keep writing the same thing but not only did they do an outstanding job, they were all so warm and kind. A man, who I am guessing was the chef manager, was constantly walking through the restaurant making sure things were the high quality we guests came to expect. I did see him jump in to help at a station a time or two when the station chef had to run somewhere (likely to replenish stuff). That was great to see since it show a team spirt that I admire. I did eat at the steakhouse once as it was outdoors and recall the server there was also excellent but I did NOT remember his name. Spa/gym: also very friendly staff. I used the gym three to four times per week. One stand out probably not only because he was friendly and charming, but also because part of his duties (other then the spa one) must have been to keep the gym organized, was "Fer", short for Fernando. I enjoyed several lovely conversations with this charming young person. Noise level: perhaps it is just the location of my room at RPCM but my room was pretty quiet. At RPB I constantly heard carts rolling down the hallway, doors slamming and other loud noises-- literally around the clock. This one was soooo much better. Perhaps because of the fact that the doors don't open directly into the main hallway? CONS: Room Service: Room service remains suspended. I was told it has something to do with Covid. I wish they would share that information before you arrive. At least at this resort reception politely let me know as I checked in. At RPB I had to go to reception ta ask where the menus were to be told with a shrug that there was no room service. Both resorts currently advertise room service as included. On site shop: Unlike the staff everywhere else the clerks at Boardwalk were arrogant, rude, and dismissive. Perhaps the rotten attitude is a guilt response for having outrageous prices for things. The whole area felt super pretentious. My guess is they are not staff but instead rent space from RPCM. The attitude difference was so pronounced it is hard for me to believe the same group hired the lovely general hotel staff and the clerks in the shop. Toilets: I would choose another type of toilet. They are aesthetically pleasing but they could function better. They (the toilets themselves not the staff) did not clean as well as one may hope. Maybe this was just mine. Location: could be a pro or a con. For me, it was disappointing that the only option to get into town (e.g., to a shop not run by the rude witches at Boarwalk, the onsite shop) was to take a taxi for about 600 pesos each way. This is likely as a result of the fact that this area is just recently developed so not as built up as, say, Cancun. On the other hand, its isolation could be a huge plus to many. Tips: book trips with the lovely staff of Scuba Caribe if they match your schedule. I worked with Paola seamlessly and happily. AMSTAR seems to have more options for departure times so they may work better with your schedule (e.g., three departure times a day from the resort for a trip to Isla v. only one time a day offered by Scuba Caribe and then only certain days, and therefore worth the extra few $. Francisco from AMSTAR was very generous with his time explaining the various options and price points. Great guy. I did not use the resort spa. There are folks that walk the beach offering on beach massages for a fraction of the price of the spa. I absolutely is a very different experience (full spa environment experience and offerings (likely different training too) v. a massage table right next to several other massage tables in a tent on the beach. The tent folks charged $50/hour on the Palace side and $60/1.25 hours, including a mask and exfoliation on the Dunamar side. I'd recommend Merciris on the latter. She did a great job and much better than the young lady I had on the RPCM side. Conclusion: I'd highly recommend RPCM and look forward to coming back. The staff here really made the trip wonderful.
tremendous service by the entire staff - especially JAFID. He is always smiling, upbeat and positive. I WILL be back!!! (I have stayed at numerous Riu Palsce resorts. This is the best!). I wish I never had to leave!!!!
We spent a week in this hotel from 12 th of April till 19 th of April. We loved everything about this hotel. Our 6 years old son enjoyed water park that has two separate zones- one for adults and one for kids. The food was beyond amazing: a great variety of seafood, fruits, desserts, meat, fish, soups, etc. Tge quality of the food is great. We didn’t visit all restaurants but the ones we visited were nice with friendly service. The Italian restaurant has s buffet style dining. The entertainment was amazing with great shows for kids and adults. The fitness instructor Anita went above and beyond with a variety of classes. She taught aqua zumba, stretching, dancing classes, etc. The hotel is nice and clean , the rooms were cleaned daily, all COVID-19 precautions are in place. The only thing that I didn’t like during my vacation is that there were big waves and red flag was on 🚩 but this is Mother Nature, and not the hotel’s fault.
We loved our stay at this resort. It's outside the hotel zone in Cancun and more private beaches. The resort is very large and spread out. There are lots of pools, lounge chairs, and excellent service. What we loved most about the resort was how well they did with Covid Precautions. We always felt safe during our stay. Employees wore masks at all times, had hand sanitizer and did temp checks. Everyone in the city of Mexico is wearing a mask at all times as well. The community really wants tourist to feel safe visiting. They did a great job. The food and drinks at the resort were great. The rooms were cleaned very well every day, and there is staff all around the resort making sure that the resort looks top notch at all times. We had fun poolside with Enrique for games and fun. He talked to us about the city and resort. He did a great job engaging with guest. We also loved Omar at pool service. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone.
