This Place is the ULTIMATE!
My oldest childhood friend Amy and I took a wonderful vacation In March. We visited the Hotel Riu Palace Costa Mujeres. OMG! What a blast! I've been to several Barcello all-inclusive properties, but I'm now STRICTLY a RIU PALACE fan. This place was THE ULTIMATE. Gorgeous beach and pools. Great food. FUN bar, "The Square Garden". The guys at this bar pampered us beyond words! We had a lovely "Garden View Suite" The property was extremely isolated. About a 45 minute drive from the Cancun airport. That was fine with us. We had no reason to leave the property. We got into quite a routine. We'd start at the Square Garden and drink a few mimosas. Then we'd head out to our favorite pool or beach. They kept the beer flowing for us! After having enough sun and fun, we'd head back to our boys for margaritas! I cannot recommend this property highly enough! As soon as this "pandemic" is over, I'm heading back!
Very good but needs more focus on details
Riu is so well known for their concept that at the moment you arrive you don't have to think for a second in which hotel you are. Service is always very polite and usually also effective. This time we still had some surprises and not always good ones. First one was already when we checked in. Hotel had messed up our reservation and they didn't have the room with pool for us even though that was what we had paid for. Supervisor claimed that there was something wrong with travel agencys reservation and that we can have the right room only for our second week there. Well, that was not the case. But anyway first we had to settle for another room which was a nice room all right but we didn't like it's location at all. Luckily they found out pretty soon that the mistake was their own and we could move to right room next morning. So there was rooms available after all... After that we were very happy with our room but after this kind of mistake it's not a five star experience anymore. And there were more surprises coming... One day maid took my wife's bathrobe from the room along the towels with some medical lotion in it's pocket and that we never got back. Also there were days that we ran out of water in room and also our drink dispenser ran out of rum twice. There was at least 3 days when guys didn't come and fill our minibar before I called to reception. Sometimes I even had to call twice. One big mystery was also that how on earth maid brings only one hand towel for 2 persons room??? We just couldn't figure that one out... Hotel gave us some presents to compensate these mistakes which was nice but it would be better of course to make things work so you don't have to compensate. And well... we had for example bottle of sparkling wine with ONE glass xD So this kind of things dropped out the second star. We have been in Riu Palace hotel before and we haven't had any of these problems before so I have to say it was a surprise. But still in its entirety we enjoyed our holiday a lot. Make no mistake with that. Food was great, Riu's legendary all inclusive is worth of it's reputation and service was very good most of the time. Our special thanks goes to Regina and Manu at the main restaurant and bartenders at the Caribic espacially to Heu who gave us very nice introduction to the world of tequila. So I wouldn't say that the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres is not worth of trying. As I said despite some little problems we enjoyed our time there. Maybe we just had some bad luck, who knows...
Two years ago we spent our vacation in RIU Dunamar. We liked the hotel and were very satisfied. That is why we decidet to try the neighbour RIU hotel - RIU Palace which was being built that time. And we did not do wrong. We had an excellent vacation in RIU Palace Plaja Muheres. Location was nice though still a little remote. But new hotels and resorts are being build in the area. The staff everywhere in the hotel was amazing, very friendly and helpful. People in the reception helped us with changing our room. Our room was spotless, clean and our maid was doing excellent job every day. Food was absolutely amazing. Wonderful selection and also nice presentation. The staff in all restaurants was working really hard, trying to do the best to satisfy all guests. The beach was sandy, no rocks and was cleaned every morning. Thank you all the staff for our nice experience with the hotel.
Great holiday, top notch service, beach was okay...
Went to the Riu Palace on the first week of March and had an amazing vacation. Shout outs to the staff for making our vacation so great. Specially PACKO at the international buffet! The staff does really go over and above for you to have a great stay. The pools were great. The buffet i would say was the best restaurant followed by the Mexican and Gourmet. The Italian and the Japanese were okay. The beach is beautiful but unfortunately the area of Costa Mujeres seems to be windy from December to March so if you are a beach person book outside of this time. Other than that everything was excellent and would definitely return!
Recent stay was enjoyable
Stayed 2/12/20 thru 2/22/20 and were very happy with our stay. The hotel is very beautiful with many restaurant options and 5 pools. We did not have to worry about getting chairs, especially on the beach there were a couple days it would a little more difficult around the pool area. The staff was accommodating and mostly helpful, we did have an issue with not getting room service when requested, that happened twice so that was a bit of a bummer. One other unfortunate occurrence was that one of the large mirrors over the sink area just randomly fell off the wall in the middle of the night! But when we called the staff was prompt at cleaning it up, although we did not get another mirror for the rest of the stay:( thankfully it was the end of our stay. The food was amazing with so many options to choose from. I would definitely go back!
