RIU Palace Bavaro during the pandemic
My rooms were 1084 for my wife and I and 1085 for our children. This is hotel is excellent, they had very clear signaling on floors and other places so you can keep your physical distancing, they also leave some tables clear so diners stay at safe distance. My only observation is that in the envelop we are given at reception or by the receptionists himself/herself, we should be given more information about all the measures taken by the hotel to keep us safe. Also I think at the reception there should be given guidelines to the customers, the staff did a terrific job keeping us in check (safe) when needed, but I think that the guidelines being exercised by the staff should be known right when we check in. With those COVID19 related observations done, I have to give them five star, my experience was fantastic, we celebrated my daughter's birthday; the staff was really kind in helping us out the way they did to celebrate her special day. Also that day she lost a hand bracelet we gave her as a present. The staff found it the next day when they were preparing the pools, the guy asked me about a description of the bracelet and gave it back to me just after I described it (kudos for having honest staff, wish I could say the same about sirenis) Scrambled eggs combined with a spicy guacamole sauce was fantastic, the food was amazing (except sushi the first day, the rest of the days were up to level of the rest of the food). Also another thing which they did lot better than others hotels, is they way we were treated the last day, we didn't feel like were being forced to leave (kicked out of the room). I say this because in most hotels you receive a call reminding you about check out or an envelop under the door and sometimes even worse, they send the cleaning lady 10 mins before checkout, none of that here, heck i wanted to stay for the weekend, but couldn't due personal responsibilities. Great experience for the price, very worth it.
this was my 27th time to the dominican Republic and first to punta cana and i was amazed at the shear size of the resort understanding the covid situation the hotel took all the proper procedures first off was upgraded to the vip villas were the pool bartenders ari and Miguel were awesome all keeping ur drinks full and the specialty restaurants were very impressive not one complaint with the food and at night at the coffee shop they made great Spanish coffee and meet a great group of people in closing would be back
Reviewed During the Pandemic so Things will be different.
Hotel Riu Palace Bavaro is a beautiful facility at a beautiful location. The Hotel is facing unprecedented challenges and this must be kept in your subconscious. One of the biggest difference that I noticed was that the number of staff is significantly lower. The Bartenders, housekeeper, maintenance and servers are much lower in number. We were told that they did not open the employee housing so only the employees able to commute were working. This put a large amount of stress on the staff and does cause a little bit lower level of service. With that said I believe majority of the staff at this location were really great. Our pool bartender, housekeeper, and servers were great. We were told that they were offering a special for locals to stay at a very discounted rate. Understand that as appreciative as we are that locals allow us to their beautiful part of the world it does create a different experience that at times can be surprising. The number of children at the dining areas was massive so there was a high level of patience needed in these areas. Additionally it was very easy to feel out of place. Overall, the facility was great the resort had a great beach great pool, and pretty good food. As a "snooty" traveler i noticed quite a few areas in the room where the upkeep was lacking. The rooms accumulate a large amount of humid air and so there was evidence of water damage on paintings, walls, and fixtures. I have to attribute this to just the low number of staff. I liked the Riu Palace Bavaro and if given the opportunity would go again. I think with all the challenges present the resort was not able to provide their best and so I don't want to harp too much on them for that. Given all the challenges I think that the resort did a nice job providing a vacation experience and would just caution to all travelers to go prepared for different.
Great trip to Riu Palace Bavaro!!
A little about us – my husband is 76 and I am 63. We are avid cruisers, but because they have all been cancelled, we have been doing more land vacations. This was our 11 time to Punta Cana – we go there 2 times a year and normally stay at Grand Palladium, but since it was closed, decided to try Riu Palace. Overall a fantastic time. Will try to be as detailed as possible with the review. 1. Check-in and room - We arrived about 2:30 and I went to the front desk to check in. They told me it would be a bit to get our rooms, they put orange bands on us and told us to go have lunch and come back. When we came back, they had upgraded us to the VIP section, building 5300, which is the 2nd closest to the beach. We were given 5311. Had a great pool view with a bit of an ocean view, big balcony. Staff at the front desk were amazing and were that way the entire week. Our room was big – king bed, with a nice dresser, table and sofa. Only thing we are not crazy about is the bathroom is not closed off from the bedroom. I get up really early to go walk, and it was hard to try to brush my teeth and get dressed without waking up my husband. Toilet was in a separate closed off area, and the walk-in shower was awesome-great water pressure and hot water. Just wish the sink area was closed off from the bedroom, so I could get dressed without him waking up each day. 2. Service – cannot say enough about how amazing the staff was. From the front desk, to the waiters, bar servers, etc., they were all fantastic. Front desk was super responsive to anything – I asked that my mini bar be refilled every day with at least 6 beers, and no issue, it was done. On the app, asked for pillow cases (they forgot to put them on) and had them within 10 minutes. Room was super clean every day – plenty of towels, toilet paper, etc. Just no complaints at all. Our pool bar waiter ARI was fantastic. I would walk up there and my drink was made before I even asked. Servers in the restaurants were great! In the buffet for breakfast, our guys would look for us and always waved us over to sit in their area. They got me my Mimosa as soon as we sat down. Just overall, the staff was fantastic. William the VIP pool attendant was so pleasant to talk to, we really enjoyed him. 3. Food – we ate at the buffet, Steak house, Italian, Geisha, Krystal. We thought the food was good. We ate at the steakhouse 3 nights. We had an issue with the head waiter not wanting to let us in, but that was quickly taken care of by the front desk, and never had the issue again. Husband had steak, lobster, shrimp and we thought everything was good. Lobster was a little dry. He thought the Italian was very good and same with Krystal. Did not like Geisha at all. Buffet for dinner had so many choices! Much more for me since I basically eat salad and veggies. No pants needed, my husband wore shorts and a nice silk shirt every night, but we saw really casual dress (way more casual than I would wear for dinner). 4. Bars/Drinks – loved the Lobby Bar. Our Bartender/waitress was super sweet, we loved her. Had drinks there every night. I will also say I was able to get canned Presidente at all the restaurants with the exception of the Steakhouse and also got it at the lobby bar. Husband was able to get Jim Beam anywhere, so that was nice. The little coffee shop in the main lobby had fantastic cheesecake. I rarely eat desserts, but had a bite or 2 of that every night, it was so good. 5. ScubaCaribe – they are great. Water was super rough the first few days so we never go to take the hobi cats out until the day before we left, but had a blast. Also booked Catalina Island through them and it was exactly what they told us it would be. They were super professional and we totally enjoyed the trip 6. Overall – very few shops open. We would have walked down to the marketplace, but nothing much open so did not bother. The shops on Caribbean street only had a few shops open. I will say if you need a pharmacy, there is a great little one right after the Bamboo property and before the Palace Punta Cana property. So, if you need something, it is a great little Pharmacy. 7. Mini Bar – had Presidente, water, Pepsi, Pepsi Lite, 7-up and maybe Orange. 8. Ice – Ice machines were hit or miss. Many days I had to walk over to the sports bar to get ice for my tote cooler. Not a big deal, but the ice machines should work all the time 9. On the weekends, the regular area was super busy since they are allowing locals in on the weekends. They can only eat in the buffet, so that was super busy when then were there. We were glad we were in VIP so our pool was not overrun with locals. Otherwise, the whole property was very quiet, most days we never saw more than 5 other couples on our beach area. 10. Beach – some seaweed, but for the most part they cleaned it up every day. Gorgeous blue water and a beach that never ends. Hopefully, this gives you a good idea of our experience. Will try to answer any questions you may have.
An extraordinary hotel, which you can go with the whole family, an excellent staff and this hotel complies with all sanitary measures, I have visited the almost complete hotel chain but I loved this one, a jacuzzi inside the super spacious room and also with a beautiful balcony I would repeat
