    Grand theft With No Shame

Went for 8 days for 50th anniversary vow renewal; was joined by 31 family and friends from USA, all of whom except one stayed at the “ALL INCLUSIVE” resort. Everything was fine until reception dinner which I paid in advance for 33 guests for the Royal Collection for the ceremony, $60/head for each person above 20 and $100 for the 1 person who vacationed at a different resort. This cost covered a special menu. Well, the wedding planner suggested to me that if any individual did not like the collection’s menu once served, they could leave the private dining area and fix plates from the buffet and bring back to the reception area. No problem with that since everyone prepaid for the dining with their hotel stay. The problem arose when the specialty menu was not available, not served, not even mentioned to any one other than me and hubby. Then the guests were told to go to buffet area and pick up the foods they wanted and bring back to dining area. My son asked the wedding planner PH what about the collection’s menu (I was unaware of their verbal exchange) and she told him I wanted the guests to grab food from the buffet area (a lie). Not wanting to spoil the mood, I did not address the issue at that time as we only had 2 hrs for the gathering and that probably was not sufficient to correct what was happening. I reached out to PH the wedding planner and after no response I filed a complaint with the corporation asking for $1860.00 refund (based on calculation for 31 meals x $60. The planner lied, corporate accepted her lie, and they offered me 700 Riu points!!! Why would I entertain frequenting their establishments again when it was going to cost me - but more $ in their financial coffer. I paid $4119 and did not receive services and products that I paid for. Also planner encouraged me to allow kitchen to freeze the top layer of my cake, saying when I was ready for it, just ask any supervisor on duty and they would retrieve it for me. 3 supervisors had no clue where to look, and one said, “We don’t keep cakes that long!?!? - from Wednesday to Saturday is long??? So I get a letter from corporate today, April 17th, saying the cake is still in the freezer so that should resolve my cake and topper issue. No resolution

    Over priced

I love the place clean good space Drink are stronger at night the main buffet ok but the Jamaica food and jerk hut food need to be better don’t taste so great!! Also some of the staff are very rude!! On the reception at the bar and the man keep making conversation lending to sexual talk.. was not in pressed. I don’t think it’s value for money! Over priced big time. Going to Jamaica this year but I don’t think I be booking here again.

    Great but needs couple improvements

Great hotel with a really good beach, entertainment and drinks. Went a couple years ago now (december 2021) and have booked to return again in a couple of months. The only negative is that there were not adequate signs on the food in the buffet to say what some of the items are and what they contain. There are certain things I don’t eat so this was really annoying. Additionally, we will now be travelling with people that have serious food allergies, so I hope this issue has been resolved since my last visit! Also, food and drinks didn’t get cleaned up quick enough, which attracted so many bees and there were loads of dead ones in the pool which wasn’t nice to see (this may be something the hotel can’t help but I haven’t seen this at any other hotel I’ve been to)

    Friendly Staff

Our stay was amazing from start to finish. The place is beautiful and very clean, and the staff is the nicest I’ve encountered in my 20 years of travel. Breakfast served till noon won my heart, no more rushing while on vacation. Honorable mention of the following staff members for their exceptional service and hospitality; Ivan from housekeeping, Romaine one of the waiters at the steakhouse, Mario at the pool bar for his amazing chocolate martinis; Marvelous Marv from the Spa,and Karaline at the late breakfast buffet. If you find yourself looking for a little adventure while at the Riu, check things out at Scuba Caribe (at the end of the beach at the resort) for a variety of sailing/water adventures. Their prices are reasonable and the afternoon scuba sight seeing tour was fabulous with Captain Ron and his crew. Would definitely recommend the Riu Ocho Rios to family and friends.

    Belter of a resort

Not our first time here as we came 12 years ago, and even though it was good then, it was even better than before. Room was great. As mentioned there is a mini bar with optics (Rum/Whisky/Vodka) and the fridge drinks replenished every two days, Plenty of large bottles of water left on the counter, so you won't run out of that. Bathroom only has Bodywash/Shampoo, so bring your conditioner. My hairdryer was about as effective as my husband blowing romantically at my head, so bring your own hairdryer too. Food appeared to be available 24 hrs a day in various places. The buffet has everything anyone could possibly ask for: Breakfast had many stations. Jamaican fayre, Salad Station, Full English Fayre, continental, cereals, fruits, yogurts, omelette stations, every bread known to man, toasting station, a variety of fruit juices, just everything anyone could want. Lunch, Soups, Salad, Mediterranean Station, Meat Station, Fish Station, Asian Station, Whatever todays Special is, Fast Food/BBQ Station, Hot and Cold Desserts, Fruit, Ice Cream. Dinner: Soups, Todays Special, Jamaican/Caribbean Station, Italian Station, Roast of the Day, Grill/BBQ, Asian, Vegetarian, Salads, Fruits, Hot and Cold Desserts, Ice Cream, etc etc. The speciality restaurants looked great, and were easy to book on the app, and not too busy. Mandalay is like the buffet where you don't need to book and is buffet style, but gets busy. The activities for all ages day and night are plentiful. There's always something to do, or watch. The kids seemed to be having a thoroughly brilliant time, as were the adults. I loved the White Party, The Silent Disco, the Foam Party, I missed the Neon Party, but everyone including myself had so much fun. There's plenty of sunbeds around the pools and particularly the beach. Towels are available to collect and return as and when needed. The resort is wheelchair friendly, everywhere was accessible for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues. They even had a beach wheelchair and a floating chair for the sea that I saw someone enjoying. The vibe of the hotel is great. People really interact with each other here, everyone just enjoying themselves. It's Mainly US, Canadians and of course the amazing wonderful British. If the evening entertainment is finished and you haven't, then get yourself to the 24hr Sports Bar, often with a DJ and a bit of dancing, Great resort for Kids, Teens, Young Adults, Adults, and the young at heart. One Love!
