Great Jamaican holiday
1st time visiting Jamaica and was highly enjoyable. Arrival- staff were quick and efficient took all requests on board. Room- 2 lovely double beds, ended having a bed each. What a treat. Comfy and clean bedding. Room was spacious, plenty of storage space. Maid service was fantastic and loved the towel arrangements. Food & drink- could not go hungry or thirty here. The A La Carte restaurants were fantastic. Staff work so hard. Only down side was 1st come 1st serve no reservation system. Jerk chicken on the beach was stunning. The bar staff work hard sometimes serving several customers at a time. Facilities- large pools water a lovely temperature to cool off in after lazing in the Jamaican sun. Only downside of the pool is the one with the swim up bar could get dirty due to people spilling drinks. Beach was lovely to walk along. Staff- always happy and helpful. The lady who runs the night shift in the sports bar andthe young lady on the day shift in the lobby bar who made us a special mango drink. Totally tasty Jamaican flavours (rum, mango). General- water shopping to the left was an amazing experience and one I have not encountered before. Coconut on the beach was a highlight. All in all an amazing trip and experience!
Enjoyable Winter Get-A-Way
The hotel is all inclusive and we enjoyed it very much. The restaurants were nice. The rooms were nice. The pool was nice. The beach is in a bay area and was mostly calm. A tad bit dirty but no fault of the hotel. They did a good job keeping the beach area clean and raked. The showers were OK. A little small. Service was above par and the food and drinks were great. We are a non-alcoholic couple so the virgin Miami Vice drinks were the best we've had in years. The only drawback was there are no local establishments nearby that you can walk to. And the closest hot spots are several miles away. But, we enjoyed and would go back.
The perfect getaway for yourself are family. Everything is classic and wonderful. The beach, the beautiful towels and the glistening water. A truly Jamaica experience await you here. Xoxo Negril......
This resort is everything you would expect from a RIU. We found the staff to all be very friendly and always helpful. Rooms are very clean and modern and fridge is stocked every other day but when we asked for extra drinks they delivered in 15 minutes. There are 3 pools, one with the swim up bar is a little more busy, there is a quieter pool near by and then there is a very quiet pool located in the courtyard of the second building. We never has issues finding loungers at any time during the day as there were always plenty at the pools and on the beach. Even though people saved chairs in the morning we always found a good place to sit and umbrellas were plentiful. Unlike a few of the RIU we have stayed in, the rooms are located down a walkway in 3 story buildings. I believe there are 4 buildings so if you have mobility issues you may want to ask to be in the first build and perhaps the first floor as there are no elevators. The beach is close to the pools so there is not a lot of walking. The beach stretches the length of the property and although is not very deep, there is a lot of room and loungers. People can choose to be nearer the entertainment or more secluded and there are plenty of trees if needed for shade. Perhaps the one draw back is the Ocean in front of the RIU, if your are an ocean person, the ocean is very weedy and you have to pick your path out into the water. This RIU is at one end of Bloody Bay and we found as we walked towards the other end of Bloody Bay the ocean was more sand bottom. We took daily walks down the beach towards the other resorts. As you leave this RIU and walk along the beach, there are several vendors set up offering anything you can imagine. For the most part they are just trying to sell you something and if you say no thankyou or just say hi, they do not ask a second time. If you take an interest in something they will certainly try to sell it to you. On the beach at the RIU the locals walk the beach trying to sell there wares, but if you say "no thankyou" they usually leave you alone. They also are not suppose to come more then 10 or 20 feet up onto the beach. This was strictly enforced at some of the resorts down the beach but not as much at this RIU. If you do not want to be bothers, simply choose a chair a little further from the water. Food was great! Al a carte are first come first serve. Only once we came after the 6:30 rush and had to come back a 1/2 hour later. There are 4 a la carte and we liked the steak house and the oriental the best but all are a good experience. It was the 5th night before we finally used the Buffet and it was great. Staff was always friendly and quick. Entertainment was the usual music and dance but they did go all out for Valentine Day. The entertainment teams makes the shows interesting and often before the show they would have some great local music playing near the entertainment center. It should be noted there is no night life here after 11:00 pm and the place gets pretty quiet.
Long Airport ride but beautiful resort
First off Riu Negril has no shuttle if your in the far building the walk can be long. Also no elevators so third floor is a bit of a workout. Also the ride from airport because of traffic was almost 2 hours thru impoverished areas Room was on the smaller side but nicely appointed. Although the shower only includes a pump gel for body and shampoo. Nice view of the small pool and the Ocean. The food was very good. With the Jerk Chicken on the Beach and the dessert offerings outstanding. The Beach and water were the best part of resort. The Bay was mostly dead calm with the wind blowing out. Water fairly clear I snorkeled everyday right off the beach. Make sure and shower off after being in Ocean or the pool. Also a wet bag for your phone is a good idea. Had mine in pocket when kayaking and just the water splashing in was enough to render it unworkable. Staff were very friendly and in a party mood. But the amount of people (not staff) blantantly trying to sell the Ganja was a lot. They say not to tip but alot of staff just outright ask..."you have something for me" if the service is good I tip. Lots of activities from paddle boats to kayaking. Snorkel and scuba tours. Many other Island tours also.
