Heroes weekend at RIU Negril
What was planned as romantic getaway almost resulted in disaster. First off on arrival at the hotel we had no parking and were being directed to park across the street from the hotel. No parking on site! How can you build a 400 room hotel with a parking lot that can't even hold 30 cars. After some back and forth with the staff a manager intervened and we were allowed to Park along the driveway of the property. After this parking fiasco we decided against staying for 3 nights as planned. Now we are trying to book in staff was not very accommodating maybe because we made a big deal about the parking and wish to reduce our length of stay. At the reception station we were also put off by the cobwebs hanging from light fixtures right over the heads of the guest attendants. After another back and forth over the amount to be paid and the unsightly cobweb we were offered an upgrade from a room worth partial ocean view to one with full ocean view. This was more of room facing the ocean. Being on the 3rd floor meant that we could see the top of trees facing the ocean. At dinner the food looked good but was a bit lacking in flavour. The wait staff at dinner were exceptional at their duties maybe because it was predominantly females. Ta least things started to look up. We walked back to our room not much to see after dark as the property was very well lighted. The bed was extremely hard for my wife who opted to spend the night sitting up pm the sofa. The soldier in came to the fore as I'm able to sleep almost anywhere anytime. I made a request via the RIU APP for the bed situation to be addressed and this was do done by the housekeeper who added foam pads to the beds. This was very much appreciated. The breakfast was okay, however I found the Spanish Chefs to be rude and not very accommodating to guest(from observation). The wait staff at breakfast were totally off their game a vast difference from the wait staff at dinner the night before. The entertainment team did their best to engage guest in various games throughout the day. As an observer this was an okay experience and the participants seemed to be enjoying themselves. The overall experience was less than expected for an all inclusive hotel, or maybe I expected too much. The COVID-19 protocols were pretty good and the staff made good effort in keeping the place clean. Stairs were converted to one ways with arrows indicating direction of traffic flow. Some guest however did not observe or follow these guidelines. Will I be going back anytime soon? Definitely not.
Myself and my partner stayed at the RIU Negril from 4th - 19th March, 1st time in Jamaica, absolutely loved it. The hotel could be as lively or as quiet as you wanted depending on what bar or restaurant you went to. We stayed in 1034 and it was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Our room was kept very clean by Sharlotte, this lady was lovely, nothing was too mush trouble for her. I had 3 SPA treatments whilst we were here, it was amazing. Unfortunately the hotel was getting ready to close the day after we were leaving due to COVID, so we found our 2nd week we more or less had the place to ourselves. I felt for the staff, as having just been told the hotel was closing, they were still upbeat and smiling. We will definitely be back to Jamaica in March next year, we thought about going to RIU Ocho Rios this time, but changed our minds and going to come back to RIU Negril, simply because it WAS paradise with the most friendly of staff. Looking forward to seeing you all again in March
Worth the money
The beach is good very shallow and very pretty. The sea was calm. The food was good considering some places have live queue. The rooms were decent. Overall experience for what we paid totally worth. The alcohol was there. So generally I would say. The amount it cost is a good representation of its experience.
