Okay for the price
We booked this at the last minute for our anniversary. Pre-arrival emails said they would be happy to celebrate the occasion with us. There was no follow up on the anniversary. No champagne at dinner, as they said they would. Not even a mention. But I get it, big deal to us, not so much for the rest of the world. Food at the buffet was good. We could always find plenty of good stuff to eat. Avoid the steak house. The steak could only be classified as a crime against beef. No one asked how we liked it or offered another dish when my steak was mostly untouched. The beach here is incredible. The pools are nice and big and roomy. Drink service required going to the bar, but was quick and good. We still managed to have fun and enjoy ourselves right up until we took the covid test the day before we came home. We came up positive, got moved to a quarantine room. At this point we went from hotel guest to problem. So we spent the next 5 days wondering what part of our food orders would come correctly. We reached out to people outside of the hotel for medicine and medical care, as neither were offered. We also spent the days washing clothes in the sink or picking out the least smelly thing to wear so we could save our one set of clean clothes for the day we got to go home. Would I come back to this hotel in the future? likely not. It's easy to take care of guests when they can take care of themselves. When they can't take care of themselves leaving them to fend for themselves with no offers of more than food delivery is just not cool in my opinion.

It was okay
Everything about this resort was okay- the food (lots of choices for dinner but the breakfast was meh), the room (bed was comfy), and the pools were lovely. It would have been nice if they actually enforced the kids vs the adult pool with the swim-up bar- so many kids unsupervised and splashing others. The part of this resort that really made me upset was the service, especially the bartenders. The service was terrible- unless you are a local who speaks Spanish. The resort seemed to be mostly Mexican families with children. As someone who speaks English, I always do my best to translate to Spanish but I found that since I wasn't fluent- the service I received reflected that by having all Spanish-speaking locals around me. I love Riu Resorts but I probably will not return to this particular. Would much rather go to the Riu Vallarta that was next door.

Great Vacation, some downsides!
Hotel itself was beautiful, nice pools and rooms and great location between Nuevo Vallarta and Bucerias. Food at the buffets was good, food at some specialty restaurants was outstanding. Most staff was absolutely delightful, some service at dinner was below average but the minority of the time. Getting service for minibar was difficult, but maid service was excellent. Drinks and shows were good. Downsides being that the pools and beach were always crowded and usually with locals staying at the hotel with some difficulty getting to order at the pool bars, with cups from the day before still scattered over the beach and chairs. This was not the case at the Riu Vallarta just down the beach when we visited there; the pools were quiet and lovely and beach was clean. Definitely recommend visiting the Vallarta to get a more relaxing less crowded pool time! Taxis to town and various excursions was super easy!

Great Time! Awesome food! Amazing team! Clean ocean! Cozy room! Thoughtful service and staff! Everything was great. It was my 3rd time at Riu Jalisco. I spent 9 days with them. It was a very good experience again. Definitely, I'll be back. Absolutely recommend.
