Very pleasant resort
Stayed at RIU Caribe for 7days at the end of April /25. This place overall was very good . This place was very clean- from lobbies, bedrooms and pools and resort. Beach - A+++ clear ocean, soft sand. Pretty good activities around resort and RIU party A+ . Great for adults-18+ . For teens and kids it’s almost a fail . Basically zero for them to do. All little kids activities very weak. This should be listed as an adults only resort . That being said it still a great resort.

Steakhouse
Had an excellent holiday at Riu Caribe and would definitely recommend to family and friends. My only criticism is that the steakhouse was very disappointing and way below the standard expected at a 5 star hotel.

Great stay & value!
Traveled with 15 friends to celebrate a 40th birthday. The hotel looked modern & spotless, the rooms were spacious with ocenview, the restaurants & food were great. And the RIU parties were so much fun!

The most frustrating thing is living with dirty, alcoholic people, a lot of noise at night, we will never return, three
Nothing to do with what this hotel was before, the remodeling is perhaps good, as far as family is concerned it is over, and a friend who lives in Cancun told me that it is a hotel for alcoholics. From 2016 to 2023, we enjoyed a beautiful environment, singing with live music, a healthier environment for our children, we will never go back.

An average resort, with average food, practical but basic rooms, not a 5 star resort.
We stayed at the resort for a 11 night trip with friends. We each booked a junior suite with sea view. We booked the hotel through booking.com and when sending questions I found it difficult to get answerers as we would often be passed around to booking.com, then an email for front of house, then back to the main hotel message function but, on the whole the staff were helpful and informative. On arrival we found the staff to be friendly, welcoming no and helpful. Everything was explained to us and our bags were taken to our rooms. The hotel lobby albeit hot, was well presented, clean and full of life. We had an issue on the first night in that it was a party night and, the “suite” was the first room as you came out the lifts, which meant we were woken up throughout the night by the sound of the lifts and drunken guests. We therefore, asked to move rooms, we were surprised when the staff member helping us said she wasn’t surprised as it was a common request. (If so, surely do something, close the room off or warn guests?) But nonetheless we were told we could move the next day and the new room was much better, it was the furthest room from the lifts and had a corner balcony which was spacious and much better. The rooms / suites themselves are fairly basic but, are nice enough and are practical. They are spacious, the beds are very comfortable, they do lack pillows though, with only one pillow per person, and no spares in the wardrobe as they’re often are. There is adequate storage although there’s space for more, and a sofa with coffee table. Our balcony had 2 sun loungers and a coffee table with 2 chairs also. There is a mini fridge which is restocked every other day as well as optics on the wall, a coffee machine but no milk, just coffee mate which is disappointing as well as no robes or slippers which is unusual for a 5-star resort. Ultimately though, the room was clean, freshly decorated, cool and practical. We booked the hotel after seeing a wide range of restaurants that when we checked the website seemed to have a buffet option and then 4 restaurants with a la carte menus. However, we soon established this is not the case, the Asian & Mexican themed restaurants are in fact also smaller buffet options with limited bars too (beers & wine only). This was highly disappointing, and meant we had 2 options for a la carte dining, one of which was the steakhouse which for 5 nights in a row despite going at different times had over an 90 min wait for a table and you could not reserve tables for the next day. We did however eat in each of the restaurants / buffets at least once and the food was average at best. In the end we had far better food by booking an uber and going out to restaurants. The service throughout the hotel was average, the staff weren’t overly chatty or overly helpful, I understand they have hundreds of guests but even the concierge was unhelpful and when we asked for recommendations of tours and excursions we were told to google them or go for a walk outside and speak to tour operators. We exchanged some dollars to bring for tips and as you’d expect the shop in the UK only had high domination notes so, when we asked for notes to be broken (to tip the staff) we were told it wasn’t possible, the same result was had by going to the currency exchange stall in the lobby. Instead we finally found success by a lady working behind the bat in “Freda” the hotel lobby. Again with the pool towels whilst there’s a good system to ensure you bring back towels when finished with, rather than leaving them occupying beds the towels are stained, and old and in need of replacement. (They are clean and smell laundered) but are a bit shabby. There were more positive aspects of the stay though such as the swim up bar which is a great addition and was always busy as so there was a good atmosphere but never too busy it made it hard to get served. Carlos who was there everyday we were there was great, and made some great cocktails. We never struggled to find beds for 4 people and found the cabanas with retractable roofs ideal. There was plenty going on around the pools and the entertainment staff were great, enthusiastic, friendly and fun. The spa was also fantastic, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the treatments were fantastic, very relaxing and well delivered. The location of the hotel is great too, the access to the beach is nice and practical and there are plenty of tours and excursions. We booked our excursions thorough Jose who is a tour operator on the beach itself rather than the operators in the sports bar or, by the towel kiosk. He was far more relaxed and friendly and also, was around $50 cheaper than the rest. The hotel is advertised as child friendly which I would state, if I was with children I wouldn’t have been happy staying at the hotel. There firstly, was a small pool for children but no other activities or areas and then there’s the party side to the hotel which often means the hotel is full of drunk people walking around after the pool parties finish, which for me isn’t great for a child friendly hotel. We knew that the hotel operated 4-5 Riu parties a week and so expected an element of this which didn’t bother us as we didn’t have children. Overall, for the reasons described and considering the hotel had recently had a full refurbishment and modernisation, I certainly wouldn’t rate the hotel as 5-stars. Whilst I would return to Cancun and Mexico, I regrettably, would not return to this resort. There inside potential and the location, & building itself is fantastic but that’s about where it ends.
