AWFUL!!!! NEVER, EVER again!!!!!!!
Riu Bambu was awful!!!! We were really looking forward to this trip; we were thoroughly disappointed! The property was dirty, OVERCROWED, and the food was terrible. I can't think of 1 thing to say good about this property. The staff didn't wear masks and I didn't feel safe at all. I didn't see ANY Covid 19 precautions being exercised. The food...OMG! When we checked in, they were serving lunch via a buffet. This is an all inclusive resort. The lunch was a sandwich and animal face chicken nuggets....TOTALLY UNEXCEPTIONABLE. We cut our trip short because of the conditions of Riu Bambu.
Covid BAMBU good and bad
Very nice for an all inclusive hotel. Nice verity of food options including: Mexican, hibachi and usual all you can eat buffet. MEGA KUDOS to our waiter "BREILY"... he was the best! Remembers what we wanted to drink, helped with chairs and always asked how our day was or what we had planned and always a smile! (Well, he had a mask on so I'm assuming. Out room was good. Nice a/c and a fan. Good closet space, safe and a welcome shower (no tub). Plenty of toilet paper, nice towels and a nice soft bed. Balcony was nice -used mostly to dry wet things. A good sized refrigerator... held multiple items: beer, soda water. And it kept them cold (I actually had ice in the water bottle!) House keep did a good job and even folder a bathing suit that was dry, in a ball on the table! Beer (president) was good as usual. Oh, a BIG SHOUT OUT to Expedia excursion man "CARLOS"...one excursion canceled and we went the next day and CARLOS came in on HIS TIME to make sure we got on the next day... he did a great job. Ok... now some bad... The swim up bad was fun and crowded. But I strongly feel that a place that has 5 pools, a swim up bar is NOT a place for those under the drinking age (18?). A bar is for adults and not for kids to learn exactly how adults sometimes act. The other pools had drink cups floating in them as well as limes at the bottom of the pool...pretty disgusting actually to walk in the pool and step on limes..! Yuck! And who knows WHAT were once in the empty cups! Pool should be cleaned daily with a pool vacuum. And while I'm on that, how about taking a walk on the beach and look for things...like pieces of broken glass. We found this more than once and it could be a bad vacation for a family with kids or adults. Mosquitoes are present at theater area so bring something to stop them (bounce dryer sheets work very well). INTRNET... I guess is "free" is an idea? Ok, wifi works at the hotel pools, bar, restaurants and even the beach! But NOT in the rooms. We were there 8 days and 7 of 8 days, I went like clockwork, to the front desk asking about it..."I'll send an email, call (whomever) and they will go fix it, come back later and check it. No, no way and not going to happen! NO INTERNET IN ROOMS! Had this been said, I would have gone one day and been done with this. I was also told l, wifi should be in the rooms...IT WASN'T. RESTAURANT... buffet style is expected and ok.. however, fresh seafood, salad, cold items and dessert.. were frequently tested by (what looked like) GREEN BOTTLE FLIES. Suggestion..a fan blowing over the items ...prevents flies from landing RECEPTION AREA.. desperate need of a sign "LINE FORMS HERE" so there isn't KAOS as who is next...ALSO, a few times to me as well as witnessed, when they are helping a guest, finish that guest before starting to help others and not let people hanging! ALSO had a toilet that wasn't flushing...handle/chain broke. They "fixed" it until I flushed again and then I figured how to make a chain, clip and rubber band work. In the morning, workers cleaned pool deck area however, they skipped the section we arrived to and left stirring sticks, limes and red colored something on the deck tiles... I guess a lot depends on the guests to not be slobs... I'd like to return and change this review but changes must happen... Bad and good things about the RIU BAMBU Overall...was OK.. 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ of 10.
If you like to party with the locals go for it if not read this First of all this hotel is very very outdated the villas feel like a motel the A/C if you can call it that is but maybe a fan (we had 2 rooms same thing on both) beds were very firm and the roof fan felt like it was going to come off at any moment. The pool is a free for all the weekends get very crowded i'm not sure if the locals just go on the weekends to party but seems like it. There's no control on the bar by the pool and kids jump in and out while your trying to have a drink.Locals bring their own speakers and you could be listening to 3 or 4 different songs at once. The folks at the front desk seemed overwhelmed when we arrived, there was a line of 30 people in front of us just to check in. We switched hotels as soon as we could. The good about the hotel is the people that work there not all but most make you feel welcome we even went to the employe area and played pool over there. we are definitely going back but not staying at the same hotel My recommendation to the hotel the pool with the bar just adults only and have the hotel play the music not 4-5 different speaker playing different stuffs. There are to many cars parked on the entrance blocking what could be a nice view, have some kind of room update and quality control. This is for RIU hotels in general have the option for guest to order bottles of water on the restaurant, we drank water and got a bit stomach sick and since we have been careful to not drink tap water we understand the environment issue this can cause but at least inside the restaurant to have the option instead of a waiter bringing you in a glass some folks like my wife will spend all vacation buying bottles of water thank you
Vile hotel hygiene
Everybody was affected by a virus called cryptosporidium through bad hygiene waiter was polishing the tables then using a cloth polishes shoes the pool was there a chlorine hotel rooms with dirty food was disgusting everybody was sick in the hotel
Just TERRIBLE all around.
TERRIBLE from the very beginning. From reception to luggage handlers to waiters to house keeping to the food and room. EVERYTHING WAS TERRIBLE. Worst 2 days ever. We ran out of there to another resort.
