Amazing !!!!!
Please don't believe all the bad reviews. We went as a couple and loved every second of our holiday. All the staff were friendly, amazing and worked really hard. When we arrived check in was quick and easy as we checked in online. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed, the air conditioning was a godsend. The food was really nice, you could never go hungry as there's plenty of restaurants to choose from so it doesn't matter how fussy you are. The steakhouse and Asian restaurants are definitely worth a go. The main pool and swim up bar was really busy everyday, so we decided to stay at the tui only guests pool and bar, which was lovely and peaceful and always got a sunbed. The riu app was really good for restocking the fridge or any maintenance issues, was resolved really quickly and notified on app when completed. We went to the white party, which was really good but once it was busy you waited a while to be served for drinks but that's to be expected . The entertainment of an evening could of had more variety, the karaoke could of been on for longer or more nights, the Michael Jackson tribute was really good. The shops on site were really expensive. We went on a day trip to Saona Island, through TUI , all I can say is STUNNING !!! . We were out all day from 7 till 7, our tour guide Obama was really lovely and made the trip fun, the boat crew were really fun and friendly too. The boat trip to the island was long but the views were amazing, the stop off in the natural pool was gorgeous. That clear Caribbean water was something else. When we got to the island, we were a bit disappointed with the food and drinks but that's the only downside. We had about 2 hours on the island just to chill or swim, then took a speedboat back to the coach. This was our first time to the Caribbean and I think we fell in love with the Dominican Republic and the people. I really hope we get to go back one day and we'd definitely would go back to this hotel.

Ended up hospitalised after a visit to this hotel. AVOID ESPECIALLY WITH KIDS!!
My 20 month old son developed Gastroenteritis and was severely ill leading to hospitalisation this was from the pools that are never cleaned and people are able to go in them at all hours we saw people in there at 1am. TUI have this listed as a five star resort it couldn’t be further from the truth it is barely a 3, I have an investigation open with TUI in regards to my poor stay at this resort. I wish I took the time to read reviews toguys save your money and heartache , you couldn’t pay me to stay here. We were treated very poorly and due to the language barrier getting help seemed impossible as a Brit. We were moved hotel due to multiple complaints made about broken AC, inedible food , filthy pools and unsanitary rooms such blood and unidentified stains in our room upon arrival, half drunken bottles, the list goes on. The hygiene and health and safety measures are non existence , this is not a hotel fit for a family. After speaking to many people they share a similar testimony.

American family of 5
This is the third Riu resort we’ve stayed at and our family had a wonderful week long vacation. The resort is safe with lots of amenities. It is gigantic, particularly when you include the water park, shopping areas and neighboring Riu’s. There are five of us with kids ages 9, 13, 15. We got the family suite, which is two separate hotel rooms off of a connecting vestibule. The vestibule has a card reader lock, so you can keep the doors open between the rooms if you’d like. We were in building 50 which is in the back of the resort facing the swim up bar pool. The Spanish restaurant is next door. Bar stays open late and the pool even later. Our suite was a little beat up with the kids AC not working the first few days. The room also had a mildew stench. No bugs or rodents, running water didn’t make us sick, mini bar was stocked regularly, cleaning crew did an excellent job. No elevator. The walk from building 50 to the main activity area and beach takes about 10 minutes, I enjoyed the walks but leaving something at the room was annoying. There is a gate at the end of bldg 60 with a card reader that you use to walk to the water park (5mins) or Riu Party (🤮). There are some turtles, birds, lizards and even a small snake in the wet lands along to walk way to either of these areas ( there are no poisonous snakes in DR). Food was good, don’t listen to picky people unless you are one, in which case you won’t be happy with the food anywhere you go. Most restaurants are buffet. The Kulinarium & Steakhouse are order only and quite tasty. Asian and Mexican are order/buffets. My favorite was the Spanish. Shoutout to the breakfast crew at the Colonial!!!!! These guys are so helpful, energetic, and friendly!!! Try the Passion fruit, pineapple and churros also good. We snorkeled, sailed the Hobbie cats, and wind surfed (lessons, didn’t get the hang of it). Scuba Carribe guys were friendly and helpful. You have to sign up for times to use the equipment so do it early in the week. We used our own snorkel gear, no aquatic life to see but we like just looking around. Water is murky except out by the rope. Beach was full of sargassum but they worked each day on clearing it. Lots of vendors on the beach, they are nice generally. The people pushing parasailing got on my nerves. Night entertainment - the three days they had actual shows were good. Thongs are the norm so be prepared if you have kids. The promote Riu Party waaay too much, there’s so many other things to do besides that. Entertainment is one area the resort could improve on. More kids movies and programming from dinner until the main show. Three nights the ’main’ show was a lone singer or duet in the from of the stage, in a corner singing boring Spanish dinner music. Overall, really good value. The rooms could use new HVAC and plumbing but we didn’t spend much time there other than sleeping. The amenities, cuisine, staff, beach, and the experience are all great. Ours kids met friends from the UK and Canada and the wife and I had an enjoyable trip.

This is not a 5-star resort
I'm a bit late with writing this review, but still felt compelled to share my experience. To start, I stayed at this report for a multi family spring break trip from April 13 - April 19, 2025. Let me start by saying this is NOT a 5-star resort nor a resort for a 7 day vacation. 3-4 days is the max. Upon arrival onto the property grounds, we were naturally excited, but as we continued to look out the windows of our shuttle, we noticed the landscaping started to change the further into the property we got. There was, what appeared to be, ran down shacks and "homes" on the property with laundry hanging out the windows, furniture outside and overall not easy on the eyes. We were confused, but didn't think much of it. It wasn't a long ride and we were just eager to get off the bus. The check-in process was log, but smooth and the front desk staff were great. There was no welcome drink, so we headed over to the "lobby bar" since our room was not ready - boy were we disappointed in the liquor selection. Usually a resort's lobby bar is the best, but not here. They had very few bottles and the bar itself was dirty and worn down. The drink was as bad as the aesthetics. Next... Let's talk about the rooms. The layout is a bit confusing but once we figured it out, how surprised we were to see that the "shacks" we were looking at out the windows of the shuttle, were actually the rooms!!! We were sort of in the middle of the property with a very short walk to the lobby and main stage. The rooms are little small buildings with about 8 on the bottom and 8 on the top - no elevators just FYI. The "family deluxe" which is apparently the best room they offer was merely two twin beds pushed together with the sofa bed laid out. No chairs, no table, no sitting area except outside on the "patio." The entryway of the inside of the room was filled with cobwebs, dust, cracks, dirt and more - just a mess! Floors were dirty. The bed was super hard with a crack down the middle because again, two beds pushed together. BRING YOUR OWN POWER SURGE for more outlets!!! The bathroom was decent but not cleaned. I came prepared with clorox wipes and spray. One of our families had no working AC, the other had water leaking from the fridge for the last 3 days of their stay and our “mini bar” dispensers did not work. BRING YOUR OWN WASHCLOTHS. We didn't get any for 2 days and had to use hand towels. To create space in the room, I had them put up the sofa bed and my family of 3 shared the double beds. No room service here. Pools were fun, but dirty at the main pool. The other pools were nice and quiet and cleaner. The daily activities were engaging but repetitive. After the 3rd or 4th day we pretty much participated in them all. Get to the pool early to secure chairs if you're a large party. Pool bar was fun, but there was surprisingly a lot of locals staying on this resort. I usually meet people from all over on vacation, but here - mainly locals which says alot. Beach was nice and our kids spent most of their time there. People walk up to you every 6-12 mins asking if you'd like to buy something. Got a little annoying, but didn't take away from the experience. The waterpark was fun for a few hours, but it's quite the distance to walk if you're closer to the hotel lobby area. It's closer to the Riu Palace which was a WAY BETTER hotel. Our kids only wanted to go once, but they did have fun. The restaurants/food *sigh*....... Let me start by saying - we ran out of food options for breakfast and lunch on day 3 and by day 5, half of our party was sick. Breakfast is quite literally only at the buffet and everyday was practically the exact same foods. Even the kids were over it. They said no reservations were needed, but when we got to the steak house, Hibachi and Mexican restaurants, they all said we needed to be on a list. We had to go to the front desk and make a fuss in order to get in the steakhouse because the line was down to the pool almost an hour before it opened and they were always “full.” Hibachi is merely a buffet of Asian food, not great. Mexican was decent and steakhouse was the best. Italian was okay and the main buffet was repetitive. This resort did not have the food buffet and grill out by the pool like most resorts – instead it was tucked in the back of the buffet and the burgers were awful. Nachos were always stale, and the “sports bar” was always freezing cold. The drinks there were better than the lobby bar. The Italian restaurant doubled as a lunch buffet during the day, but really all of the food was the same – basic and bland. Food is a very important factor for my vacations, and the subpar options here are the main reason I would not recommend this resort pass 3-4 days. The entertainment was decent and engaging. The bar that opens in the evening was one of the best. It’s really a large resort and we explored all of it during our stay since we were there so long. I would not go back though. This resort really should be listed as 3.5 stars because it’s not 5.

AVOID THIS HOTEL
I am not sure where to start but this is the worst place we have ever been, me and my husband are in our late 40s and we took our daughter who is 24 and son 20 the holiday cost us £8,000, the food was terrible we didn't have 1 decent meal in 11 days, the pools were absolutely filthy, people are rude and I would go as far to say they hate English people, we went to THE little shopping square on the complex and the shop owner basically spat at us because we didn't buy anything. They only cater for the Spanish we didn't hear 1 English song the whole time and that included all the themed parties, by the pool and evenings. We paid for room upgrades and when we arrived one room wasn't ready and had maintenance men working on it, there was water all over the floor and we had to wait hrs before we could get in, not great after a 9 hr flight. The one and only thing we all really enjoyed was coco bongo this was absolutely amazing but bear in mind its very pricey we paid $570 for the 4 of us, we also went to Saona island which was a farce they take you to a beach 1st which is full of street sellers hassling you they don't leave you alone it took hours to get to the island which was unbelieve paradise but you only stay there for 1.5 hrs again all catered for the Spanish there wasn't any other English people so nothing was translated so we didn't have a clue what was happening. To top the whole thing off me and my husband caught legionaries disease from the hotels faulty air conditioning in the room a few days before we came home. I was very poorly for just under 3 months given 4 lots of antibiotics and 5 inhaler's. After putting in a complaint with Tui we was offered a £350 holiday voucher given the holiday cost 8k this was very insulting. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL.
