This Marriott is a winner!
I was ready to find all kinds of things to complain about, since this is a Marriott property and how Hawaiian can a Marriott be?! But I was impressed. The desk personnel are always round and eager to dispense advice about the facility itself and the surrounding area of Wailea. The rooms are clean and spacious with many offering views of the West Maui mountains. True, the property is not ocean front, but there are ways to access the beach. Yes, you could walk there—20 minutes. You could drive to the Shops of Wailea—free parking for now. But the Residence has its own shuttle to take you to and from anywhere in Wailea. Unless you are going to drive upcountry for other areas, you really will not need a car. Taxis can take you to and from the airport. We plan next year to drop off our car and use the taxi. I almost forgot: we had extraordinary service from the hotel’s electrician who not only tried to fix our TV but managed to replace it that very evening. Yes, the price is still quite high even with included buffet breakfast and the toilets are possibly the lowest we’ve ever encountered anywhere. But the location, service, and cleanliness make this five circles.

Fun for family
The 2 queen suite with kitchen was very comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet in a great open space area. The grounds were extensive with plenty of grassy play area, BB court, putting green, pool area and fire pits. We made use of the grills and enjoyed the Friday night musical entertainment. This hotel also has a shuttle which was so handy.

Perfect for a Family of Five
As a family of five, this was the absolute best set up for us. The two queen sofa bed studios are very spacious and have a lovely balcony. The staff was very friendly and responsive to our needs. The rooms were freshly and well cleaned each day. It is an easy walk to the shops at Wailea, the beach, and right next door to a little area with three delicious restaurants. The breakfast buffet was a great way to start our day. They offer free activities for kids such as bracelet making and there are lawn games and basketball. The grill area is big enough for many people to prepare dinner.

Exceeded Expectations - Family-Friendly Hotel
We booked this hotel on points and it exceeded expectations in every way. We highly recommend the hotel, particularly for families and hope to be back! Check-in was welcoming & we were able to take advantage of an upgrade with status. The staff makes everything so easy! Everyone we came in contact with went out of their way to ensure we had what we needed. Our room met our family’s needs with frig, cooktop, dishwasher and access to public laundry. There is a full breakfast that is free in the morning with lots of great options, although we preferred cooking in our room. The hotel recommended a small market nearby, Island Gourmet Market, where we picked up items for breakfast and lunch. Some other options on site include pool, hot tub, picnic area & bbq grills. Lots of seating at the pool and breakfast area. There is a on-site shuttle that will take you anywhere in Wailea. Staff are accommodating, friendly, & have lots of great tips for beach time, day passes & restaurant options. Ferdinand, one of the drivers, was amazing!

positive and negatives - honest review
This place would be a solid 3.5/4 stars in my opinion but for a few glaring issues. To put this in perspective, this review is from a married, 60ish couple if that helps. First the good – the initial greeting and check in was very good. Unlike our previous week’s stay on Kauai, (Sheraton Kauai coconut beach- read my review) the young lady (sorry can’t remember her name) warmly welcomed us, recognized our Marriott loyalty and immediately offered us an upgraded room. This was greatly appreciated as our recent interactions with Marriott have been lacking. It did not even matter if an upgrade was available, she played the welcome perfectly. The room was nice, a one bedroom with plenty of space. The bathroom was nice, shower big with real water pressure and well stocked, the bed comfortable, plenty of pillows. The housekeeping crew did a great job and were very friendly. The room has a full kitchen area with all that is needed to cook or reheat a meal, and a full-size refrigerator. Not a negative to be noted about the room. The pool is a nice size and the grounds are well maintained. They offer an included well-stocked breakfast every morning, coffee, tea, eggs, waffles, sausages, etc. – more than enough to get your day going. The food area was always cleaned and always well-stocked. And, as you check out the restaurant prices in the area, an included breakfast is a good wallet relief. The location of the hotel is great, a short drive to many great beaches – Wailea, Makena, Big Beach etc. Thanks to a heads up from the woman who checked us in, a great local market (island gourmet market) right down the street. We stayed here for eight days and the breakfast was pretty much the same every day, but included is included, so just a minor issue. Also, under the positive, along with the check in woman was a gentleman name Ador who worked mornings in the breakfast area. This man has more positive, big smile, energy than anyone I met on the Island. He is very welcoming, and even after all the people he interacts with, he remembered my and my wife’s names every morning. Marriott would do well to reward this individual. And if I ended the review here, a solid four stars but … Now for the negative. I think this place appears to offer day passes and/or staycation deals to locals. I note this because on several days of our vacation, the pool area had several family guests that I only saw for one maybe two days. During these days, the pool had larger groups of kids running, jumping, diving. On several occasions, these groups were drinking in the pool and smoking and vaping poolside. Now, I have no problem with the drinking and smoking part providing everyone is allowed to – if they can smoke/vape I should be allowed to enjoy my cigar poolside. When we checked in, the woman did say they are very kid/family friendly but being kid/family friendly should not mean, in my opinion, at the exclusion of all the other guests. There was one day where we did not feel comfortable/safe going to the pool due to the larger group. This did not occur every day, but I don’t believe it should occur at all. Again, just my opinion. I also noted the lack of available parking spots on these days – may be related, may not be related. I have photos and video of all the behaviors I noted if anyone would like them. This brings us to the next negative -- $30 a day to park my own car? I see this as a money grab – nothing more/nothing less, especially when there may or may not be parking available near your room entrance. This place called it a parking fee, the Marriott we stayed at the week before in Kauai called it a hotel fee. I straddle the fence with this review – actually one of the better Marriotts we have had experience with over the last few years, but I don’t believe one group should suffer so another group can enjoy – while management turns a blind eye. Again, just my opinion. Would I return – a solid maybe.
