Another great stay at Ross Bridge Renaissance Golf Resort and Spa

We recently traveled to Birmingham. We have always enjoyed staying at Ross Bridge. (We found Ross Bridge 8 years ago while one of our sons was a student at UA.) While the hotel is close to all parts of Birmingham we enjoy the tranquility of relaxing next to a world class golf course. Every morning starts with views of a beautiful golf course. Some days or is hard to get going. Things were different this stay...Covid 19 is effecting many aspects of our lives. The management and staff at Ross Bridge have found a way to follow the guidelines and still allow the quests to safely enjoy their stay. We had a minor issue with our room during our stay. Management quickly addressed the situation. We want to thank Rick Smith and his staff for making us feel like "family" during our stay. We look forward to staying at Ross Bridge during our next trip to Birmingham. One final thought...book early. During our recent trips, most hotels had q significant number of rooms available. That was definitely not the case at Ross Bridge. This hotel was full with guests thoroughly enjoying their stay.

    Death Trap

Despite have signs at all entrances requiring masks, employees and guests consistently did not wear them or, if they did, chose to not cover both mouth and nose. Most employees, also, did not understand the meaning of "distance" and came right up to us. It was frightening. We wanted to be as safe as possible for a work trip during the pandemic, so we chose the Ross Bridge, since it has a few rooms on the ground floor, meaning we would not have to enter an elevator. Thankfully, the front desk manager blocked us on the ground floor, in the room we requested. We never assumed the bar (which we forgot we would have to walk by) would be in full swing, both nights, with unmasked revelers listening to live music. As we were unloading our car in the parking lot, the loss prevention person drove right up to us in his golf cart, to ask if we needed something. The answer was “Yes; we want you to stay 6’ away from us.” We never imagined that both guests and employees would be such a hazard to our health. We planned to enter the hotel through the front, side door, with the handicap push button. It wasn’t working. So we had to walk between two bellman, holding open the door. I doubt the doors are much wider than 8’, so that absolutely did not give us 6’ of distance between us and either of the two bellmen. It seems that the signs at the entrances must have required people to wear the mask to “enter”, but not while actually in the building, as we saw numerous guests walking around without masks. Both nights of our stay, we were greeted by the front desk agent, with her mask covering only her mouth. We studied Marriott’s “enhanced cleaning policies” before booking. We were comforted by them “placing disinfecting wipes in each room for your use.” (It was ONE wipe.) There could definitely have been more hand sanitizing stations, and, while the room was cleaner than usual, I spotted a previous guest’s medication under the bathroom sink, and there was an old wrapper for something behind the bedside table. Lastly, it seems that with all the downtime the hotel had during the initial quarantine, someone would have thought to use that time productively, checking each room for any maintenance/engineering issues. The entry light in the room was so dim it seemed like a haunted house, and the air conditioning made a terrible buzzing sound through the vents when it came on. My family has spent at least 150 nights at this hotel since it opened. It makes me so sad to say we will not be back.

Horrible Visit Not Worth Price Point

Marriott Titanium member who made reservation for Friday 8/14-Sunday 8/16. Upon arrival, told I had no reservation. Had email as proof. After calling Marriott, found out hotel had changed reservation. One room available. Dirty, toilet not flushed and not reservation type. Checked me out the next day. Put me back in a room with one bed (although my family was traveling) and after third room got it right. Not worth price point to be treated poorly. No one wearing masks during Covid. Overall worse Marriott I’ve stayed at this year (maybe ever).

    Terrible service

Waited 2 hours for 2 additional pillows. Had to call front desk 4 times. Service is NOT professional. The service at this hotel is really a joke. Not even close to Marriott standards. Staff was unfriendly I am a Marriott rewards member which was never acknowledged. Marriott should be ashamed. I have traveled all over the world. What rat experience to date.
