Good location but significant hidden fees spoiled the trip.

The location is great and the rooms we had were decent but this was all spoiled by hidden “destination fees” which over the 3 nights equated to $243 for our two rooms. This practice needs to stop as it’s just a way for RS to advertise cheap rooms then add on more cost when it’s too late for guests to do anything about them. The experience we had with the reception team was mixed. Not as friendly as it should be and the information provided on hotel amenities was non-existent. The rooms were cleaned every day but not until very late afternoon when we had already returned from our days out. Not terribly inconvenient but we would have preferred them to have been serviced before we returned. Check-out was disappointing as well. No explanation of charges that would be applied and I had to request a copy of our invoice (which turned out to be incorrect). Fix these issues (which shouldn’t be hard) and I would recommend this hotel but not as it stands.

Bait and switch of rooms and a "left over room" for arriving at 9pm

RE ROYAL SONESTA HOTEL DUPONT CIRCLE, Washington DC We stayed at this hotel July 3 to July 7, 2025 A series of failures from the hotel starting with our late arrival 9pm July 3. They put us in room 1012 which was totally inferior to the picture of what they say is a Spa Junior King Suite. It was extremely musty and the air conditioner could not be run during the night for the noise it made. This time of night, we just wanted to go to bed. Next morning approaching Rae their front office manager showing her the picture of what the tout is this type suite. She argued that we were in that type suite. I had Booking.com on the line while I talked with her. Her lack of cooperation and attitude made this situation even worse. "We are fully booked". I Had contacted the hotel several times to make sure I would not get a "left over room" knowing this is probably how it would play out on arrival. They sent messages back to me through booking.com reassuring they would give me the room. I even asked if they would provide the room #, which they would not do. Booking.com heard this all play out and agreed that this was a bait and switch. And the Picture was totally not what I booked. Rae said this was a suite. Well, then why is it not on the category picture in booking.com. She was not going to budge. Even telling her the condition of the room. She then gave us room 712, which again was not the category of room booked and paid for. She told me we could move into a suite on July 5. The hotel was fully booked. The room 1012 should have been taken off their inventory due to its condition. Thus the "left over room". I cannot believe they would really do this to their customers. When moved to 638. It was again not the category of room paid for. Rather than bother with it as I knew she would not do anything else, we stayed there reluctantly. This hotel would not even respond to booking.com regarding our situation. Their complete lack of willingness to sincerely help was not there. They dug in their heals to not help us. Booking.com told us we were going to get breakfast for the inconvenience, but we were charged. $89.06. We would like to dispute this both the 969.00 and the $89.06 for breakfast. This booking was made 2 months earlier. Another pleasant stay at the Royal Sonesta Dupont

This was my second stay in the Royal Sonesta Dupont circle. Again from time of checking in this time with Maxmillian was a smooth experience. Room spotless and large and all staff professional and pleasant. I didnt use the pool area again as I was out all day most days but did meet a couple who had been at pool and enjoyed it expecially in the heat there was last week. The location was again perfect and central for walking or the bus or Metro. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Best DC experience - World Pride 2025

Great neighborhood. Friendly staff checking in and out. Upgraded to a Spa Suite during World Pride and it was well worth it. Amazing food options in the neighborhood. Can’t imaging staying anywhere else in the city. See you next time Royal Sonesta - Dupont Circle!
