Ask for a dehumidifier
Upon your check on, ask for a dehumidifier if you think it will be too humid/stuffy in your room. We thought it was too hot and humid to leave the doors open during the day, after all, the climate is tropical! Having the drier air was very nice.
Something for everyone. Great customer service
Where to start? I LOVED this resort. I read some bad reviews and got really worried about it. Upon our arrival we were greeted well, initially we were booked in the family section, but once seeing that it was just my boyfriend and I, they gave us FREE upgrade to the adult only section. Of course they did their jobs and tried to sell us the privilege, they weren't pushy at all I found, and when we declined they were very great about respecting our wishes. Our room was beautiful, they did a great job and maintaining the upkeep, and restocking our fridge. The beach was beautiful, NO seaweed was on the beach while we were there, maybe it was the time of year? IDK. Pools were great aswell, we spent majority of our time on the beach or the el beso adults only pool. At both we were well taken care of and always had drinks. All the restaurants were great, we LOVED the japanese & mexican ones, the italian one wasn't the greatest in my opinion. The only downside we faced was in the sports bar, there was a big hockey game on and the place was filled with Canadians eager to watch it, sadly they didn't have that channel, but that wasn't the let down. We were hanging out with a large group, and were ordering shots, and drinks having a good time. When suddenly the bartenders got very rude, and refused to serve some people in our group due to them "not tipping enough". With each order, they were in fact getting quite generous tips.. Regardless of this, we had an AMAZING time and would 100% go back. There are so many different things going on each day, that everyone could be pleased at this resort, from older groups, large families, and couples. Please don't let the negative reviews discourage you!!! Thank you Ocean Riviera Paradise for an incredible time, and making my first experience in Mexico a great one.
Large Resort Great for Families
This property is huge and it is helpful to take the trolley from the main lobby to the beach as it is a long walk. The room was clean and quiet. I had a bottom floor with a swim out pool. I was not in the Adult only El Beso area, but it was quiet. I prefer adult only resorts as I feel the food is upgraded and I do not like the children running under my feet all the time. This is a great family resort, especially if multiple families are travelling together. However, the wait in the a la carte restaurants is long. I felt this resort was a big large and too active for me to be able to truly relax, even in the adult only pool.
Lovely large resort, disappointing food.
Beautiful and clean resort with lots to do. Huge kids water park, bowling alley, foam pool parties for the adults, and numerous other activities and multiple pools will keep things interesting. Our room was spectacular (Privilege building) with two full baths, two deck areas, king bed etc. There is no shortage of hot water, linens, staff and this large resort was always polishing, or doing upkeep (quietly) to ensure everything was in top shape. The buffet was excellent! Amazing sauces, flavours and variety of foods in abundance. You really don’t need anything else. The a la carts were another story. The steakhouse had thin, grisly steak and calamari so heavily battered it was unrecognizable. The Italian restaurant didn’t even use Italian seasonings and the risotto wasn’t arboreal rice. The Mexican restaurant had seviche on the menu but what came out was not - at all! I couldn’t even cut through my duck mole! The Blue Moon however was fabulous and we would highly recommend it. The gym was well equipped with friendly and helpful staff and Mike’s Coffee was quite good. Jewelry shop was overpriced and small clothing store offered nothing elegant or dressy, just hats, t-shirts, coverups, etc. We came for a wedding. Food, location and staff were great but the wedding couple found there were many ‘add ons’ that made the wedding quite expensive for them. It’s not the deal you think you’re getting.
Great week at Ocean Riviera Paradise
We got back on March 13th, 2020 from a great week at The Ocean Riviera Paradise in the Playa Del Carmen area of the Myan Riviera. We travelled with another couple as we usually do. We arrived in Cancun on Friday March 6th to clouds and a little rain on the way to the resort but that cleared up by the time we got there. Check- in was fairly easy but a bit confusing at the same time. We got our rooms had our bracelets put on and paid our environment fee. We were then told to go with a staff member standing by who would explain the resort to us. We at first refused and said we would do it ourselves as she looked like the Time Share people we read about in the reviews. We were not impressed that the resort staff send you to these people who have a clipboard with the names of all people coming in and are just standing there waiting for you. We finally gave in and sat down with her to let her explain the resort but told her if she started to Time share talk we were gone. She was OK and when she did start we just said thanks but no thanks and got up and walked away. We then went to lunch in the main buffet, first impression was very good, lots of variety and fast service at our table. Our waiter was Eduardo, and we had him every morning for breakfast and three times for lunch. He was great, always had a smile and remembered what we liked to drink and where we liked to sit. When we went back to get our room cards the clerk at reception informed us that, due to the confusion at check- in, they would move us from Garden view to Pool view. The room was great, we had two double beds and a nice big balcony with two patio chairs a small table and a bird cage type chair hanging so you could sit and sway in the breeze. The fridge was stocked every day and the air conditioner worked well. The view from the balcony was great, we looked down at the pool and the bar was right at our end nice and close. When we looked to the right we could see the beach and the ocean. We could also see Cozumel across the way and that was very nice at night when all the lights came on over there. As for noise at the pool, once it closed down at six it was very quiet. We never had pool view before but will probably ask for it from now on. It was windy and cool for the first few days and we could only walk along the beach as the red flag was up and the waves were too big for swimming. We took advantage of this time and stayed by the pool and saw all the activities they had going on there. They had aquafit and all kinds of games every day. The day they had the foam party we were able to sit on our balcony and watch it. By day three the sun came out in full force and it allowed us to now enjoy the beach and the Ocean. The water was nice and warm and the waves were a nice size to play in. There were lots of big rocks in the water on the part of the beach at the front of our resort so we walked down a little further down to the right and found a spot where there were only little stones to walk through (maybe about 10 ft) and once you passed that hurdle, there was very nice sand at the bottom and you could walk up on a sandbar type spot then back down. Lots of fun for big and small. The chair game is on in full force at the pool and if you don’t have yours picked out by 8 a.m., you were pretty much out of luck. We took turns picking out our four chairs every morning and were able to get some right outside our building everyday which was nice. At breakfast in the Buffet, the omelet station was very fast and all guests were polite to one another in line. There was lots of variety of fruits and juices, lots of bacon well cooked, sausages and of course home fries like you get at McDonalds. They never let trays go empty, always checking and refilling them in a timely manner. The Mimosa in the morning was very good at there was lots of it. We liked the coffee in the buffet but would sometimes go and get one to go at Mike’s. For lunch we would either go to the buffet down by the beach or to the main buffet. The one at the beach had a good variety of food and the line moved fast. There was also a pizza place right next door that was extremely busy but we managed to try it and it was good. As for the main buffet, there was a great variety of food and it was different every day. We tried three a la cartes. We didn’t really care for the Italian one. We really enjoyed the Oriental one. You must make reservation for this one the morning of the day you want to go. Reservations are made by lining up at the main buffet before 9a.m. (we would go at 8:15 and lineups were already started). The last one we went to was Route 66. It was OK, The portions are very big. The two of us could have eaten what I ordered and we still would have left overs. The shows were the best shows we have seen in all our trips compared to Cuba and Dominican Republic. We knew the actors were lip-syncing but you could have sworn they were actually singing, they made it look so real. We strongly recommend going. The main lobby bar is very nice and the service was fast and always with a smile. The pool bars were just as good and friendly and the beach bar was the same. They all made good drinks and were fast and efficient. One of the things that impressed us was the cleanliness of the resort. They were always cleaning and wiping down surfaces in the main areas and the rooms were cleaned great every day. We had issues with lights not working in bathroom so we advised the customer service person of our bldg. on the main floor and it was fixed within the hour. We never had a customer service in our building at any other resort before. This made repairs and any other issues a person might have, get fixed so much faster. We must not forget to mention the monkeys. They were out every morning and every afternoon just waiting for people to feed them We would take bananas from the buffet at breakfast and bring them with us when we walked back to our rooms. They would walk right up to us and grab the bananas from our hands and take them off up to the trees with them. One monkey had a baby hanging on and he/she would give it to the baby, it was amazing to watch. There were also coatis, they looked like a raccoon and loved the boxed cereals people would give them. To sum this all up, we chose this resort because we went to the Ocean Blue and Sand in Punta Cana last year and really liked it. So this year we wanted to try Mexico and wanted to stay with the Ocean brand so we chose this one. We were not disappointed in any way and would recommended this resort to all who want a nice place to come and have fun and great food and service.
