We would happily return to Ocean El Faro!
The food at the a la carte restaurants was overall excellent; the buffet was hit and miss but we were never hungry and could usually find something we liked. Breakfast omelettes were a favourite. Mikes coffee shop, across from the main buffet, had great lattes and pastries. The beach directly across from the privilege area was quite rocky but if you walk five minutes to the left there is a lovely all sand lagoon where a couple of wild horses hang out daily. The lazy river was a hit for both of us; guests need to bring their own floaties which we did as I had read a review about that prior to packing. Our upgraded room, a Master privilege swim up suite was awesome!! So spacious and we really enjoyed the large deck with our own lounge chairs ; building 4 was mostly in the shade which we preferred. We were in front of a smaller, quieter pool so quick access to a swimup bar and sun when we wanted it. The larger party pool was closer to the buffet (building 2) We would go back to this resort again and definitely get the room upgrade and privilege level. Our wonderful butler (like a private concierge) Luisander booked our reservations for five nights; otherwise we would have been in line at 8am as the app didn’t work most of the time for other guests to make dinner reservations. Luisander also booked someone to come get our luggage on the day of departure and arranged for a quick fix of a broken lounge chair. Our butler checked in on us each day with via Whatapp. Luisander was friendly and efficient. I highly recommend the Privilege service if you can afford it. This made it a five star experience in my opinion. We did not go on any excursions on this trip as we decided to have the room upgrade instead. There was live entertainment in front of the building before the shows. We went to the beach party which was quite fun
Disappointed at this resort-
We just came back from a 7-night stay at Ocean El Fero. We are privileged members with H10 and booked our week about 6 months ago. At the time of booking, I requested to be in the El Beso section or closer to the beach as we prefer a quiet area of resort and did not want to be near the party pool or kids’ area. We are well traveled and have stayed at multiple Resorts in Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Cuba. We always tip well, not picky travelers or eaters but found this resort disappointing. Check-in: was quick and easy. Room: We met our Butler who escorted us to our room and gave us a bit of a tour of the resort. Upon arriving at our room, we were told by our Butler that we were not in a privileged room. He tried calling the front desk to get sorted out and was told we’d have to come back the next morning to get the room switched. They placed us in a pool view room directly across from the kids splashpad area which is the last place I wanted to be. It was so loud in our room that you couldn’t even take a nap if you wanted to. The next morning, we spent a good 4 hours dealing with customer service. They blamed the Premium travel club, and they blamed the resort. We wasted 4 hours of our vacation, and no one was willing to help us. 3 days later they decided to move us to a privileged room which was the worst room, it was back of resort on ground floor. The mini fridge was not working, and the deadbolt lock was broken. The room smelt horrible. The bathroom shower constantly flooded the entire bathroom as there is no divided or slant in shower. We did not have turn down service. The maid made up our bed but did not tidy up or even pick up garbage. No towel animals. The fridge was never restocked. And you cannot get water anywhere in the resort except for your room. We constantly had to get our butler to get us water. The drinks: were not enjoyable. We tried multiple bartenders, and they all seem to not be able to make a decent drink let alone to make the same drink the same way twice in a row. The drinks tasted awful. You constantly had to ask for high-end alcohol and even then, you had to watch the staff to make sure they used it. Food: nothing to write home about. We are not picky eaters but found it hard to find anything that we really liked or enjoyed. Buffet the food was cold. We went twice and both times the food wasn’t warm. Room service- took about an hour and the food was cold and not that great. A la carts were better, but it just lacked any kind of service and took a long time to get food. Service: we found that this resort lacked any kind of service from the staff. They were not friendly and not willing to help. When you asked for anything or help, we were given rude responses. Pools: were all great. Many to choose from. All seemed to be clean. Lots of chairs available Beach: large beach with lots of chairs. Doesn’t seem to be too busy. The water was very rough while we were there and had a red flag most of the days. There is a inlet bay a few minutes to the left of the resort but it was still pretty rough there as well. If going in the water, make sure you have water shoes as there are lots of coral and rocks. Lazy river- it goes a lot faster than expected. No tubes are provided so make sure you bring your own. Tips: Be cautious of any slushy drinks. On days that these were consumed we both had some stomach issues. When no slushy drinks were consumed it was much better. (that was the only difference in food or drinks those days) Overall- I would not come back to this resort and I would not recommend this resort. I am a travel agent and will be putting this on my do not sell lists.
Worth going back
It was our first trip to Ocean El Faro and we had the most wonderful time. despite some weather drawbacks, all the rest was perfect. The room was always cleaned well, staff was friendly and helpful, entertainment time was fun and spectacular. Buffet restaurant impressed by diverse menus, each day there was a special theme. Halloween dinner was unforgetable in that restaurant. Waiters were all attentive and accurate, espcially we are thankful to Julio Castilio whose service was always fast and accurate and very friendly. It was time well spent.
Big improvement in 3 years
First time we stayed at Ocean El Faro was Jan 2020 and noted several concerns in a review. last response from management.."We sincerely hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back, in order to mitigate your current perception of our resort. Please feel free to contact us directly, so we can take care of any details in advance, and ensure you have a totally great vacation." Kind regards, Maritza Torres. Public Relations Manager. Ocean El Faro by H10 Well we just got back from resort last night after a week with other family members..You asked us to come back and I can say they really have made considerable improvements.. Had a swimout room family side again and noticed daily attention to cleaning pool vs no cleaning before. (there was dust clouds when you walked in pool then), That was an example of attitude and attention given by most of the staff we encountered this trip. There was a difference in service levels between Family side and Adult side of the main Buffet and the family side staff were quick to serve coffee and refills etc and were very friendly.. not so much on adult side. It seemed the quality of food in the buffet was a bit low this trip...maybe grocery store inflation ? All the other restaurants, bars etc were very good to excellent. Food as described on menu was delivered cooked just right, in timely manner, drinks provided and quick for refills. Staff very friendly.. we see they seem to enjoy their job. Fairly consistent all around the resort. HIGH Score for Steak and Italian and Sekura. I may be remembering wrong but, there was a beach side restaurant we used on first visit but all three near the beach are restricted to El Besso or Privileged. We inquired at all 3 and told no for us. Only beach area food is BBQ Burgers and Hot dogs for lunch (precooked and siting around) Ocean Blue and Sand opens their Villa Marina for lunch for everyone (stayed there last year) Really like the new wrist band / key card. Happy to recommend Ocean El Faro to anyone who asks.
Johan was really entertaining, fun, and amazing. They were really friendly. All the amenities were useful. Would definitely recommend this resort. Food was good, pool was great, room was beautiful and beach was fun!
