I wish I could write a better review, but I would be lying. We booked our trip thru Expedia and were so excited to go away for a few days. We picked this resort because of the good reviews and the pictures looked really good as well. When we checked in, it took longer than expected. They told us to grab something to eat which we did and the room still wasn’t ready… to give everyone some background, my fiancé and I love to travel but also we know what we’re getting if we are paying for a 3.5 star resort. It took 2 hours for us to get our room but again it’s not something that would cause me to give a resort 1 star. Once we got to our room, it was dated but we were happy to finally unpack and change to our swimwear. The pool and beach were relaxing and the bartenders are friendly. When we got back to our room, we started to shower to get ready for dinner. Big mistake. The vent in the bathroom started leaking. I had to place the towels on the floor from the water getting everywhere. We told the “butler” and said we can get a new room the next day so we just dealt with the puddles of water in the bathroom. The restaurant Rt 66 was ok. The Mexican restaurant was not good at all. The Italian restaurant was ok though. The service at all these restaurants is super slow and not good. Asking for water or soda will take a half hour. Also, it seems like they are not equipped to hold a resort full of people. By the second day, we were determined to have a good time. We got moved to a different room which seemed to be better. After dinner and entertainment, we went back to our room and it was HOT. The AC broke. The front desk told us there was NOTHING they can do unless we wanted to pay $500 to be upgraded to an available room. I was blown away!!! It was hotter in our room than outside (86 degrees F). There were a few other families also complaining and the resort management did NOTHING… unless we wanted to be moved to the “Privilege” side which meant paying much more. I was beyond disappointed with how the resort handled their own issues. Our option was to pay more to be upgraded or leave. So WE LEFT. We went to TRS Cap Cana and it was like night and day. I wish we could’ve booked TRS instead. We had a fantastic time there and the food was amazing. I will never recommend anyone to go to Ocean Blue and Sand. Waste of money!!!

Recommend coming here if you expect 3.5 star

We had a Junior Suite, it was a large room, slightly dated but good for what we paid. Highs: lovely beach, swim up bar, selection of restaurants and a real life flamingo! Loved the coffee shop too. We were so lucky with the weather and had a really nice week together. Lows: I have a bad gluten intolerance and I found the buffet limited for gluten free. Was told chips were gf but they weren’t and made me unwell for a couple of days. Not severely but enough to have to take Imodium. Beach vendors and on site market vendors are very pushy. Nothing is labeled in the buffet restaurant and level of gluten free understanding was limited. Small section of gf at lunch time. No gf breads and one dessert. The al a Carte restaurants were much better for GF. We didn’t eat at Route 66 but every other one was nice. Not fancy but we had a lovely time. Also had a meal in the restaurant by the beach which was lovely. Used common sense and ate plain eggs etc for breakfast and lunch. A la carte was much better and had labelled gf on menus. There is a selection of naturally gluten free food like salads, rice, eggs, cheese, fruit and meat so defo did not starve. They just didn’t have gf pasta, pizza, bread etc and I’m pretty sure the fryer is cross contaminated. I would go back as i did have a fantastic time overall. We went with TUI and even the plane meals were fine. We got really cheap deal and were very happy with the hotel for the price we paid. If you’re coming from the UK be aware there’s a tipping culture here so bring some US dollars.

    Paradise

Absolute Paradise. From the moment we arrived to the day we left we were greeted with such loveliness from all the hard working Staff. The whole place is so well maintained and the rooms are very spacious, although ours was slightly dated but had no effect on us. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. We had a jacuzzi in our room which was a lovely touch. Our room cleaner was an absolute legend. Food - so much choice from the main restaurant to various restaurants. Something for everyone I would say. You will definitely will not go hungry. Bring plenty of 1 dollar notes for tips as getting money changed is a challenge. Oh and bring the correct plug adapters otherwise you’ll get caught out like I did! We booked 3 trips whilst here, which I would highly recommend, Twighlight Buggies with a “Rave in a Cave”, Saona Island and Coco Bongo. All trips were so well organised and we had a superb time! Special mention for Mike’s coffee shop. The best coffee, iced coffees and hot chocolate I think I have ever had! Such a welcome addition. My advice book it….something for all ages!

Just writing my review sat outside Mikes coffee shop waiting to be pick up from a fantastic 11 nights.

Fantastic hotel, just spent 11 nights with my partner. Where do we start we absolutely loved it. From the flight with tui which was great to the lovely welcome by reception. Our room was very spacious and looked like it did on the website. The aircon worked and was quiet the beds and pillows were so comfortable. If anything the room maybe a little dated but we did see one block closed for a refurb, so I think the hotel is aware of this. This did not spoil our stay we had a junior suite with garden and pool view block 4. Our room was spotless and cleaned everyday. We eat in the main restaurant most of the time there was a fantastic selection for every meal time. The grounds are immaculate and they have a hard working team of gardeners. The pool area was really clean and all staff are really friendly. All the staffs English was better that my Spanish. There is a real mixture of people here a lot of Americans and Canadian but all friendly folk. Mikes coffee shop is a must to try and the coffee is fantastic and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The hotel is big enough and everything is in easy walking distance. If you have issues with mobility there are very few steps and every building has a ramp and there are golf buggy taxi running all the time. We didn’t up grade to privilege I don’t think we missed out on anything. You will see people reserving sun beds even tho the hotel has signs everywhere saying not to. Saying that we always managed to get a bed round the pool or the beach when ever we went. Would recommend bringing single dollar bills with you for tips because no one would change bills here. All in all a fantastic hotel could not recommend higher.

    Ocean Blue and Sand Hotel

Ocean Blue and Sand is a beautiful resort. The grounds and facilities are well maintained and the rooms are beautifully kept and clean. At the hotel, you have access to an incredible lobby, piano lounge, multiple restaurants, 2 pools, swim up bar and gorgeous beachfront. You have access to a wide variety of food to choose from and even have the option of visiting Mike’s coffee shop. The entertainment at the hotel is fantastic too! Pokemen, Blue, and the rest of the entertainment team work hard to create a fun and engaging atmosphere at the pool, beach area, and in the evening. I would highly recommend this hotel and visit again!
