"maybe you shouldn't have traveled during a pandemic"
My title sums up the general attitude and experience received from the Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun. We paid extra money to have a preferred room and be upgraded preferred guests at the resort. Our Preferred Guest Concierge literally told us "maybe you shouldn't have traveled during a pandemic" when we inquired about the lack of promised amenities at this resort. The most frustrating part of this whole thing was that we booked this trip only a few days before we left and there was clearly no communication about anything not being offered due to the pandemic. The resort itself is beautiful and the swim out room was pretty amazing except for the fact that the beach is closed and not being maintained so there was several feet of fermented seaweed which often made the smell in the private pool unbearable. The gym was closed, the club was closed, there was only one "theme night", the nightly entertainment consisted of karaoke twice, a band for the fourth of july celebration, and a solo musician our last night. Only two restaurants were open per day and on several days one of the two was booked up leaving one option for dinner. We were promised a honeymoon package that we had to fight for everything that was listed on our confirmation. There was no "top shelf" liquor as was advertised and the liquor that was available was watered down. Beach bar was closed. The front desk would pass us off to the concerige who would pass us off to the front desk or room service. This could have been prevented if there was more communication in the beginning before the trip and if the staff at the resort had the training to take ownership of a problem and act like they wanted to help.
Leave your cares behind!
We just returned from 8 nights at NOW Sapphire The property was immaculate and one of the staff was always cleaning . We were offered hand sanitizer throughout our stay, but it never felt intrusive or awkward. They wanted us to be healthy and enjoy our vacation. Front desk staff are efficient and friendly. One minor issue came up when we were leaving for an excursion. We brought a few towels from the pool and were told by the staff we had to leave them behind. A better option, would be to have the guest sign something that they would be returned, or they would be charged We were honest, and held them in our hands (others snuck them in their beach bags) We ended up having no towel on our snorkeling/catamaran trip. We booked a Preferred Junior Suite ocean front room (410) although there were no extras that were outlined in the brochure (robes, slippers, better alcohol, snacks, etc). Not sure if it was a communication glitch when the room was being prepared. The Swim out rooms below us looked great—if we return, I think we would choose this room selection Beach bar was closed, as was the beach itself. Jelly fish and terrible seaweed—not the property’s fault (obviously) but disappointing. Room is plain in décor and underwhelming. No real artwork or other color in the room. Lighting over the couch/sitting area could use a standing lamp—as the only illumination came from one recessed light. King sized Bed was comfortable, although pretty firm. Only one side of the bed had an outlet and USB charging station. The other side had nothing In fact, the entire room really lacked outlets in general. The one over the main desk/drawers only had two outlets and no USB ports. Bed side tables are too far away from the actual bed. Room darkening shades are an institutional dark gray. There was a mishap regarding a bed for our 10 year old— We were expecting a pull out couch, but instead it was a twin rollaway cot, that was less than attractive looking (old frame, with a bath towel covering the ‘headboard’ For her eight nights, we expected something a bit more comfortable and appealing Furniture has a office like appearance, as does most of the room. Felt more like a business motel room than a resort guest room Jacuzzi tub on balcony was a nice touch, although several broken or cracked tiles around the perimeter. A drying rack for towels, bathing suits on the balcony would be a great addition Slider was tough to open and close, and could use some work to allow for easier use-skipped and caught on the track. Bathroom—separate toilet which is nice Double sinks would have been a nice touch. Hair dryer was broken. There is a magnifying makeup mirror which I loved. Plenty of closet and drawer space for clothes, etc. Safe was fine, large enough for iPads, passports, cash and large camera. Rain shower—plenty of hot water and a bench in the shower to either sit or place your toiletries is helpful Coffee maker in the room.—should get Nespresso or Keurig for the Preferred rooms. Mini fridge with sodas, Corona, water Room service was fantastic: Javier was great. We ordered dinner a few nights, and had breakfast every morning at 8am. It arrived right on time, and for the most part, all items were on the tray If something was forgotten, someone brought it right up to us . Restaurants—two were open each night (rotating due to decreased staff) Food was overall very good. Meats were just okay, and often over salted. Wines were okay—drinkable. Sparkling was decent. Cocktails were good. Tacos were fantastic (fish, beef) David in Market was fantastic, and made the best ceviche outside Lima, Peru! He treated us like royalty and we always felt so special when whenever he was there Another big customer service shout out to Julien and Eduardo in Market—super special guys! Pedro the sommelier was such a nice surprise. He had some great offerings at a reasonable price. We met him in Paramour where he recommended a great Sangiovese, and he made arrangements for dinner for us with our pre-selected bottle of wine for the following evening as well. He had a small tequila tasting on our last day. Martin the pool butler/manager was a doll! He helped us with our Bali beds (when you are preferred, you simply WhatsApp message Concierge each morning for the next day’s availability) Daniella Katherine, Julio, Luigi and Omar in the entertainment team were great! The entire team really tried to make the day fun for everyone, but the music play list could use some work We did not use the Spa. The lovely woman at the Coco Café was great. Always helpful and warm! Loved the frozen coffee drinks and snacks. Lobby bar was great, as was the Preferred Club (snacks could use some TLC, as not a lot of variety, etc) Pool bar—Antonio and Cesar!!! Fantastico! They mixed up whatever we wanted and did it with great customer service. The pool is beautiful, very big and perfect temperature. Plenty of entries and exits around the pool. Plenty of towels. Pool service was great too. I wish I could remember all the servers. They were wonderful. Bali Beds were great. Clean, comfortable and semi-private. It was so nice to reserve one for the next day and not rush to get chairs. Plenty of palapas and chairs around the pool. Kids section with pool slide was well enjoyed by our 10 year old. Life guards on duty. Can’t speak for kids club—it looked cute but probably a little young for our child. The fauna and greenery around the property as well as all the water features surrounding walk ways, etc, is just gorgeous I am so glad they did not remove all of the trees when building the hotel We saw Coatis roaming around, and a very meowy resort cat (cute but annoying at times…lol) We were there for July 4th, and the hotel had an absolutely wonderful BBQ for the guests. They could have just arranged for burgers and hot dogs, but NO, they had a beautiful assortment of pulled pork, sausage, chicken, beef, mashed potato, waffle fries, salads, sauces for the meats, potato salad, ice cream cart! They really went all out and the guests LOVED IT!! Bravo! We really enjoyed our stay. It was so relaxing and hassle free. The real highlight of this property was the staff. We loved talking to them, and really taking time to get to know them. They go above and beyond for you, always with “It’s our Pleasure!”
This was our third time here at Now Sapphire and they continue to impress! Definitely different this time around due to precautions for COVID, but overall it was amazing! The staff is by far the best we have seen and my wife and I travel every year. What made me give a 5 star rating was the fact that the staff go above and beyond for you! We took our 1yr old and she was not liking the milk at the resort. She only drinks 2%milk. I brought this up on a facebook page for Now Sapphire group and concierge messages me right away asking if i still needed 2% milk. They ended up sending someone to the local grocery store and brought me back a different milk for my baby! I was absolutely amazed that they did that for us! Thank you so much to Sarah and Luis from concierge! Also huge shoutout to Cristall poolside waitress and Cesar swimup bartender who took care of us all week! They were very nice and made sure we were taken care of! Highly recommend this resort! Pool is amazing, entertainment team is one of the best. We will be back!
A Much Needed Vacation
We loved our 8 night stay at Now Sapphire. We're Unlimited Vacation Club members and had not yet tried a Now resort. We were pleasantly surprised! Accommodations: Rooms were well appointed. Fridge restocked daily though we did have to request it one day. We asked for extras waters and it was provided. Private shower and water closet. Plenty of drawer space which you don't often find. Couch, bed and pillows were comfy. We wished there was a double vanity and plugs on both sides of the bed. Our room was missing an iron and hair dryer but they got one to us quickly. Pool/Beach: The main pool was always fun. Not too loud but plenty of activity going on. The entertainment staff works very hard but the daily activities are generally the same each day. Get out there early to reserve chairs if you want one close to the pool. We liked being able to reserve the Bali Beds as we were in a Preferred Club room. Swim Up bartenders and those walking around were fantastic! Caesar, Jaime and Cristall made fabulous drinks with a strong pour. The adults only pool is stiflingly hot with no moving air and warm water. We did not enjoy it at all though the bartenders there were fabulous! We definitely preferred the main pool because of the ocean breeze and cooler pool water temp. Take a float if you'd like one as the foam mats aren't available right now. Restaurants/Food: The only restaurant we did not eat at was Paramour, simply because the night it was open was a hot one and my hubby didn't want to wear pants. Ha! ALL of the other restaurants were fantastic. By far some of the best food we've had at an AMResort. Room service takes 45 minutes to an hour so take that into consideration. Dania (maitre d') was very accommodating and always greeted us with a smile. Miguel was a fantastic waiter! While we were there, sushi wasn't available. We did not have one bad dish or meal while there! I have 2 food allergies and may foods contained one or both. The waiters and cooks did a great job accommodating my allergies. I would be leery of the Barefoot Grill. Hamburgers and hotdogs were precooked, sitting out, and then reheated. That's a food safety concern for us. Fresh off the grill is the only way to go with that. Cleanliness: We felt the resort went out of their way to ensure safety due to COVID-19. We felt safer there than in our home state!
4 day get away.
We had a super time at this resort. The events team was aways was there happy and planning fun games to play. Katherin, Omar, and Juan are awesome. Cesar the poolside bartender was always ready to smile. This staff made our stay wonderful and made us feel safe and at home. Thanks, Guys, Joe Hartman
