Our #1 tropical vacation spot THE GRAND!!!

Our 2nd trip to The Grand, this time we brought our 23 yr old son & 26 yr old daughter with us for an 8 night stay. We LOVE the Grand!! Beautiful & SPARKLING CLEAN pools & grounds!...(thank you Elizabeth pool concierge, you are so kind and HARD WORKING!!) The rooms at The Grand are gorgeous! My husband and I had oceanfront and our son/daughter had standard jungle view and both were beautiful!! If oceanview is affordable go for it but that being said the standard rooms are equally beautiful! Ask about their pillow menu (!!) ....the down pillows were the most comfortable pillows we have ever slept on! Our butlers in oceanview Manuel, Ruben & Tania were absolutely wonderful and always making sure we are comfortable and happy! Enjoyed all the restaurants especially dining at Japanese with Wiliams (3 times!!)....we asked for him as he is just the BEST!! We did hibachi once & enjoyed table service even more, (get the fried sushi appetizer which has a lobster tail AND surf & turf sushi - SO DELICIOUS!!) Breakfast every morning was fantastic! A big thank you to Josue who we saw every morning at breakfast, he is SO KIND and ATTENTIVE & HARDWORKING, (a true asset to The Grand!!). The breakfast buffet is awesome.....huge assortment of everything.... fresh fruit, made to order omelets, crepes with a topping bar(!!), waffles, yogurts...you name it and it is there! We LOVE Louis and his bar cart at the pool every day...he makes the most amazing icy cold fruit filled drinks and he was a highlight from our first trip so we were VERY HAPPY to see him again! On the subject of drinks, another highlight is definitely Luigi at the Rhapsody Bar- make sure you stop in there and see him and have him create for you one of his delicious UNIQUE cocktails - we would tell him what type of alcohol we liked and say surprise us - Luigi is awesome!! If I opened a bar in the states I would steal these 2 guys...absolute gems!! Make sure to take a walk thru the entire property down to the other Iberostar resorts. Each one has a beautiful lobby and grounds - don't miss the snake bar at The Maya!! We will definitely be back again to this relaxing beautiful resort where every staff is just so kind and helpful and works hard to create an amazing vacation for their guests!!

    A beautiful and friendly place

We have been to this hotel multiple times. We keep returning due to the beautiful surroundings, great staff, good selection of restaurants and a very nice beach. Oh, the golf course is also great. We went over Halloween and Day of the Dead . (Dia de Muertos). It's a fun time to be at the hotel. The staff do a great job of celebrating both days. A few guests will dress up at halloween. The Buffett on Day of the dead is amazing. See photos, particularly dessert tables. While this is close to the end of hurricane season most of the days were warm sunshine. The forecast here almost always predicts rain but in actuality it's mostly sunny. The evenings were pleasant and we did not need an extra layer. We always get a warm welcome upon arrival at the hotel. Always nice to see Anhali and Lorena from PR, Paulina and Sanche poo at the front desk. Check in was super easy. The bellmen here are outstanding. They will get you to your room quickly and help get you oriented to the hotel. If you need a ride to anywhere on the resort they will drive you over in a golf cart. This is handy for going over to the shopping centre, the golf course or going over to see the other hotels. There's two oceanfront buildings here but we stay in the main building (72). All the rooms in the resort are pretty much exactly the same except for the Villas and the corner rooms in the oceanfront buildings (70 & 71). The rooms are quite large and they all have a patio or balcony. There are walk up rooms on the ground floor of oceanfront and ground floor rooms facing the quiet pool. We tend to spend the day's around the activity pool. The activity team come around with various things to participate in. Usually there are some kind of games as well as things like tequila tasting, guacamole making etc. Drink service at the swim up bar and around the pools is fantastic. We usually had the two Leticias, Maya, Rozy, Daniela and others taking great care of us. Occasionally they had poolside entertainment in the afternoon. Sometimes a solo performer that sang and played guitar or a duet with vocals and keyboard. It was fun to be in the pool listening to them. We had a good time with the Activity team here led by Charly. I'm missing some but Louis, Carlos, Pedro, Romeo, Alma, and Viri were fun to talk and interact with. Dinners were mostly top class. The new Ember restaurant is very nice. Steak and lobster are plentiful here. We had dinner there 3 times. We did have one experience where the service was very slow and the steaks undercooked. Management were on it so I think that will be resolved. Legato is the New Mexican restaurant. It was not very busy. We did have very slow service here one night. I have no idea why. We went back another night and it was very good. The Italian and Japanese and French restaurants were all excellent. The dining here is certainly upscale. The Buffett, especially on gala night always has a good variety of choices. There was a saxophonist in here one night and a cart offering choices of tequila or mescal. There's a nice outdoor patio open at lunchtime. It has a spectacular view of the Caribbean. The menu is casual, tacos and burgers. There are plenty of critters running around this resort. Iguanas are plentiful around the pools. Don't feed them and be careful if you choose to eat lunch at your pool chair as they are not afraid and will steal food right off your plate. There's plenty of Coati's but they are typically just moving through on their way to the Lindo/Maya where they get fed a lot. There's plenty of interesting birds around the grounds. Entertainment in the evening is improving here. They now have control of the nice theatre, for the past 3 years it was leased out to a private company and only extra paid events were held here. There was a an excellent halloween show and Day of the Dead show as well as weekly Rock, Mexican, Pre-hispanic and other shows. All worth attending as it's 45 minutes of entertainment. As usual there is good entertainment in the lounge, Oz Barba is a big favourite with his guitar cranking out Rock & Roll. They have karaoke a couple of times a week also. I played golf 3 times while there. The service at the golf course is excellent. The course itself is in great condition and is very challenging. There is a beautiful main gym that serves all of the Iberostar properties. They have an excellent professional staff who also run classes including yoga, water aerobics etc. There is a smaller fairly well equipped gym in the spa at the JOIA. We will return again to this hotel as the staff, from management on down to maids. groundskeepers etc. are wonderful.

    Chill Out Holiday

This is our twelfth visit to the Grand ,I must say the changes they have made only have improved the holiday . The fact you dont need book for meals is a great change , the restaurants if possible have got better great service in everyone. The cafe is a great place to chill. The pool has been modernist with the hot tubs being upgraded. They have acts/singers on around 3pm every day all very good. Special mention to all the butlers in building 70 everyone was outstanding, the cleaner/turn down staff thank you very much. A special thanks to two guys Humberto and Daniel you are the best at mixing drinks anywhere. We will return in March looking forward to see everyone again.

    Can't wait to go again

We just returned from a week at JOIA and it exceeded all expectations. The staff and property were amazing. Our butlers, Antonio and Gustavo were beyond helpful. Andrea, at Star Prestige, was informative. Rosaura was very attentive around the pool bar and the "fun" staff was so very fun at the pool. We will definitely be back.

    Another amazing vacation

Iberostar Joia in Rivera Maya never disappoints. Each and every staff member makes it a point to ensure you are happy. Great food, amazing service and overall property. From the cart drivers to the bar staff, wait staff and every employee we encountered, they serve with a smile and go out of their way each and every day. We continue to make this at least an annual trip.
