Stunning Views, But Poor Service and Operational Failures Made It Unworthy of the Price or the Luxury Label

First, I want to thank a few staff members who made some moments of this trip better: Julian at the front desk, Guilman at the lobby pool, April and another girl who hosted the candle and macramé workshops, and several other staff working in the restaurant, pool, and in-room dining. Your warmth and professionalism are the reason this review still holds three stars. The room was clean, and the amenities were relatively new. I recommend booking Ocean Front, not just Ocean View — the views differ significantly, and the “Ocean View” rooms may lead to disappointment. There was a noticeable sewage odor in the toilet area upon check-in, which the butler team initially addressed. However, the odor returned strongly on the day of checkout. Food and drinks were average — not great, not terrible. They matched the reviews I’d read beforehand. ❌ What Went Wrong: My check-in day was chaotic — the boat transfer changed due to weather, so I had to take a public ferry and then a taxi to the hotel. If your arrival or departure happens in bad weather, expect a long and stressful journey. Once I arrived, check-in was the most disappointing I’ve experienced at any “luxury” property. Three unrelated guest parties were grouped together and led by a single butler for a joint amenity/room tour — something I’ve never seen even at mid-range hotels. My luggage took nearly an hour to arrive, and my backpack containing two laptops was missing for hours, only found later by another guest who received it by mistake. No one proactively followed up until I chased it down myself. The second day started with multiple phone calls before 9am, even though my Do Not Disturb light was on. I couldn’t even function enough to answer the first two calls. When I picked up at 10am, it was just to remind me to collect a “VIP gift” — which turned out to be a cheap coupon book, with a push to join a promotional sales session. Not the kind of morning I expected from a high-end stay. 🛑 The Butler Service: A Critical Weak Point The entire hotel operation relies heavily on the butler team, but my experience with them was confusing and frustrating. Besides confirming one dinner reservation, I received no reliable help with activity bookings or basic logistics. My laundry pickup, ferry transfer, room key (after a room switch), and even lost luggage — I had to follow up on my own or chase down updates. At one point I was told the candle workshop was fully booked, only to find out I had been on the list all along but never informed. Miscommunication was frequent — and not just for me. Other guests at activities shared similar confusion about their reservations. What made me finally request a meeting with the GM the night before checkout was that the butler team gave me the wrong ferry port for my departure, leading to frantic coordination between the hotel concierge and my airport pickup driver. Again — more stress, not less. All of this made me feel like, This is not a luxury-level experience, and it’s certainly not worth the price. During my conversation with the GM, she was surprised to hear about the phone call disruptions and butler confusion. I was offered a 50-minute spa treatment, which I declined due to checkout timing, and a “future room upgrade” based on availability. I already told them I don’t intend to return anytime soon. 🚩 After returning home, I contacted Hyatt. Their team clarified that properties in the Inclusive Collection are not directly managed by Hyatt, and that all issue resolution would be up to the GM. That alone is concerning — you think you’re paying for a Hyatt-branded luxury experience, but when things go wrong, Hyatt has no real leverage. Even worse, the hotel later claimed that the only formally reported issue was the luggage incident — and that they never received my complaint email (which I had also sent to Hyatt Customer Service). This felt like a deliberate attempt to minimize the scope of the feedback and avoid accountability. This has been the most disappointing luxury stay I’ve had in the last five years. There are many other hotels at this price point with far better service, professionalism, and recovery culture. Choose wisely. Not recommend.

    10/10 stay! Must visit

Visited impressions with my fiancée to celebrate her birthday, and the stay was everything we could have imagined and more! The whole check in process was super easy from the boat marina to the hotel where you pull up and are immediately escorted to your room and given a tour of the property by your personal butler. Food was amazing, amenities amazing, everything was 10/10. I even got Scuba lessons from Arnulfo down at the beach and he was an awesome instructor! Made the process so easy David and Zelma were our butlers for the stay, and they were both amazing. They had a birthday celebration set up for my fiancée after we got back from dinner one night. They were super easy to communicate with, and took care of anything we needed. At the pool, Guilman was the best. He took care of everything we needed, and came by to check on us, and even called us by our names even after just meeting us. He really made us feel at home, and he took a true interest in getting to know us which I loved! Thanks so much, Guilman! The whole staff was so polite and would go above and beyond to ensure you were happy! What a great stay.
