Hyatt 3-day getaway
A last minute 3 day getaway to escape the heat, we were recommended to try Hyatt Newport Beach - enjoyed the adult only pool and our waiter Luke was very accommodating, polite & personable. There were a few children which kinda put a damper, but not too bad.
Don't make people who are having a quiet conversation move to another area for no reason- that makes no sense.
I mentioned it earlier, 10 of my friends and I were ask to leave the very large area behind the main pool because the pool was closed. That's a rediculous rule and should not have been enforced on guest who were gathered to have a quiet conversation and enjoy each other's company.
Not as expected
Breakfast was very poor ,not only the taste but the serving size ,I understand it’s during COVID 19 but this is a Hyatt they can do better, Also ants were crawling on me overnight that was very unpleasant
Family short trip to OC
Overall our experience for a family of 4 including 2 adults and young kids was good b not perfect and I will go over the reasons why in details. Let’s start with the positive aspects. We like the overall feel of the property which was very lush and green. It was great to also be able to self-park for free since we had booked with Hotels.com with VIP benefits. We loved our room which was towards the back of the property next to the pools and with a magnificent view of the bay. The room was very roomy, clean and the beds comfortable. The various pools were great and the kids thoroughly enjoyed them since they were large and had plenty of seating areas around. The hotel lobby / bar area was beautiful along with the outside patios / garden where you could relax in canopy style areas and order food and drinks. The food and drinks were also great overall and I thought reasonably priced. We also loved the fact that we could order the next day our breakfast from 2 different places (included in room rate for 4 people) and enjoy it in the outside garden area. Now here are the aspects that we struggled with a bit. Check-in was long and painful granted we had arrived around 2:00pm when official check-in was scheduled for 4:00pm. 99% of the time at Hyatt or similar type of properties rooms are ready earlier but we understand with COVID-19 things are different and slower due to social distancing and enhanced cleaning requirements. It did not bother me so much that the room was not ready but kept being told that it would be ready within 1/2 hour then 45 minutes then 1 hour. We were also told we’d be getting a call or text to let us know when the room would be ready but never did. Finally I had to check in twice and there was a lot of confusion as to whether or not the room was ready. It was also annoying to have to line up outside every single time since only 2 people were working the very narrow front desk. Eventually we got our keys but it was not smooth. It sounded like communication and training gaps which I am sure Hyatt is / will be assessing. Getting food was also an ordeal; it took forever to get a waiter to come to our table to the point where I had to go to the bar area to ask if somebody would come and ended up ordering our drinks at the bar area after being in line for a long time to at least get us going. Eventually the waiter came in and everything was fine from then on. The main issue for us was that unfortunately our room was adjacent to very noisy hotel guests. We noticed the loud rap / hip-hop music when we first got into the room but since it was during the day it was not an issue. Unfortunately the extremely loud music was still on at 9:00pm when my wife went back to the room to put the kids to bed. After she kindly asked the next door guests to lower the music and stop talking super loud (there was a party going on there), the noise still would not stop and obviously the kids could not go to sleep ;( After my wife texted me to report the issue since I was still at the restaurant spending time with a good friend of ours, I went to report the issue to the reception. Thankfully the hotel sent a security guard right away to notify the guests next door to be quiet and they finally did. It was not the hotel fault but from my understanding when checking out it sounded like several guests had complained about the noise issue. Thankfully during the check out the Hotel management apologized, comped our resort fee and rate without even us asking (good business) which is why I am not giving less than 4 stars on this review. I also want to acknowledge all the Covid related issues which make everything more difficult. My recommendations here would be to improve check-in protocols and communication between staff members to accurately inform customers of check-in times and increase shifts / staffing as permitted to offset the delays that may occur from COVID requirements. I would apply best judgment when it comes to accommodation to mitigate potential noise or other nuisance which I can appreciate is not easy. Last I would implement better processes to ensure enough waiters are scouting outside locations to provide service in due time. Even during Covid time it’s not ok to wait 45 minutes to get service ;( It’s a great hotel and location overall and our issues won’t apply to everybody but I felt it was necessary to report our experience so Hyatt can continue to engage on continual improvement! Thanks for listening.
Perfect in Every way
Our room was extremely clean, we were not worried about Covid. We won't stay any where else. We have two little dogs and it is pleasure for find a place that accommodates the dogs so we can see the grand kids.
