Classic LA landmark with lovely staff and killer views
As a little kid living in early-70s LA, I knew this place as "the big round Holiday Inn." I was fascinated by it and always wanted to see the inside. I finally treated myself to a visit, and am so glad I did. What made the stay for me was the employees--in particular, the valet and room service crews. Such nice people who obviously take great pride in a job well-done. They pay attention to details, which is something I highly value, and a rarity anymore. Another plus--the room was clean. Because of COVID-19, I brought antibacterial wipes to wipe everything down, and as I did, I found no lingering dirt on any surface. The soles of the slippers I bring with me to wear in every hotel room did not turn black like they so often do everywhere else. With restaurants largely closed right now, I relied on room service, and the food was excellent.
This is our 3rd stay We need to be close to UCLA. We love this hotel, small, intimate, clean and comfy. Even with the pandemic I felt safe. We loved the food from room service, quality, delicious, hot and fast. I think the best quality of the Angeleno is the staff itself. I want to publicly thank Brad and Matt at the front desk, wow, talk about customer service. These guys go well over the expected standard, great job guys. Will be staying here for 2 months after surgery because we love it so much.
Here for UCLA appointments
We had searched for a location near UCLA and found this little gem of a hotel. The service is impeccable, Matt and Carlos at the front desk were so great. We checked in the last night the hotel restaurant was open due to CoVid19 so we were able to enjoy a delicious meal. The restaurant and bar are fabulous and offer room service with the same great quality of food during this time. Our room was clean and comfortable, changing out the couches would be my only suggestion and perhaps a set of dresser drawers in the bedroom ( we stayed in the 2 room king suite ) so not sure if this is a problem in other rooms. Our shower was huge with a sitting area which fit our needs perfectly. Anything we needed was seen to immediately. We are so happy here we will be staying here thru the appointments, surgery and recover time, we are required to stay close to UCLA for 2 months minimum. Make sure you sign up for Inner Circle they offer, free valet parking, 15% off food and beverages and other perks!!!! The lobby coffee shop needs to increase their inventory and include sundries, microwaveable small meals and a larger selection of snacks, but they have a wine social every night so they get points for that. Overall if you are looking for quality, clean, friendly accommodations book a room at Hotel Angeleno.
Matt Made Our Stay
We were out driving around DTLA and Hollywood discovering new places to visit once the quarantine is over and decided we didn't want to go back home. We've had dinner here before but had not visited in a while. I called to see if they had rooms available and luckily they did. We pulled in and checked in with MATT. I recognized his voice over the phone and immediately we connected! He was extremely pleasant and very accommodating. We asked if the restaurant was still serving food post COVID-19 and he assured us they were. Matt took it upon himself to order our dinner for us while we were checking in to make sure our order was put in on time before they closed. We wanted the Cioppino but they were out so we settled for the chicken and the scallops which were both delicious! After checking us in, we thanked him for being gracious and kind then Matt surprised us again and took his customer service skills to another level and offered us a complimentary American breakfast! The breakfast was also delicious but I wouldn't expect anything less because their restaurant is amazing! My honey and I enjoyed a night of laughter, great food & and good netflix movies (we stopped at Walgreens for liquor)! Matt definitely left a lasting, positive impression on us! The room was cute and comfy and just what we needed to chill. We will definitely be back for dinner and because of Matt this hotel will always be our first choice! Thanks Matt, you are awesome!!!
Convenient and pleasant stop-over
We stayed one night during our planned flight connection between Asia and South America. This hotel was a lifesaver. The location was convenient to the airport. When we couldn't figure out the faucet, a staff person immediately came and explained it to us. The top-floor breakfast—though expensive—was delicious and filling, and it gave us a great view by which to remember the city. That was something we appreciated especially because we were there for such a short time! The free hotel shuttle brought us a couple miles within the neighborhood so we could run errands, while the front desk held our bags. The hotel is tip-free, which made it easy, since we weren't carrying U.S. currency anyway.
