    Stolen Jewelry

The hotel is very nice and in a great location. I gave a low rating because the housekeeper or someone stole my quartz necklace and a bracelet. Not expensive but you know how people are about their crystals. A stolen crystal necklace does not have good juju for the thief or anyone that wears it. They weren't even suppose to be in our room as we had the "Privacy" sign on the door always. But oh well, hope they enjoy it.

    Family Fave

My family's favorite hotel in the city. We love the river view and the access to the Riverwalk and Convention Center during Essence Fest in addition to the many great restaurants within walking distance.

Do Not Recommend – A Hotel That Prioritizes Profit Over Basic Courtesy

I stayed at this hotel over the weekend as a signing author for a major book convention. I paid $550 for two nights, not because the hotel is worth that rate (it isn’t), but because the event was hosted on-site. For the sake of convenience, I dealt with it. When I arrived Friday evening, the bellhops had already gone home. The front desk held my ID while I borrowed a cart to haul my many boxes and totes of books up to my room myself. The valet was actually fantastic, one of the few helpful employees I encountered, and even lent me his cart without hesitation. Now fast forward to Sunday, after the convention wrapped. I approached the bellhop counter for help getting everything back to my car, only to be told I’d be charged, but no one could agree on how. One bellhop said they charge by the pound, while the guy standing next to him said it was by the package. When I asked for a ballpark estimate, I was told they couldn’t give me one until they saw my items. I didn’t see a scale anywhere, so I’m not sure how exactly they intended to weigh anything, but clearly, this was a pay-whatever-we-decide situation. I’ve traveled extensively and stayed in everything from budget hotels to high-end luxury resorts, and not once have I been charged a separate fee to use a bellhop. I’ve always tipped generously. This was just a blatant upsell wrapped in confusion. So, I went to the front desk, hoping to repeat the same process from Friday: hold my ID and let me borrow a cart. This time I was told absolutely not—because the bellhops were now “on duty.” I asked point-blank, “So I’m just out of luck if I don’t pay by the pound (or by-the-package, because honestly who knows)?” and they confirmed: Yes. Let’s be very clear: when it’s inconvenient for them, guests can borrow a cart and do it themselves. But when there’s a chance to squeeze extra money from you, suddenly it’s forbidden. To make matters worse, six to eight grown men stood around at the bellhop counter doing absolutely nothing while my daughter, sister, and I made multiple exhausting trips with only a small personal cart, through a sprawling, multi-building hotel, up and down elevators, across long hallways. Not one person offered to help. Not one person cared. In fact, after we made our first trip, one of the bellhops wandered into the convention room—not to help, but clearly scanning for someone to exploit. It felt predatory, like he was shopping for the most overloaded guest who looked desperate enough to pay whatever made-up rate they were quoting that hour. I didn’t disclose my chronic health condition, but what they expected me to do physically was absolutely unreasonable. We were also hit with an additional fee just for retrieving our vehicle one hour after the convention ended, even though hundreds of guests were all trying to leave at once. It felt like they were trying to milk us at every opportunity. And let’s talk about the hotel itself: outdated, worn down, and not remotely worth the price tag. The only thing it has going for it is location, and they exploit that fully. I’ve never encountered a hotel that refused to let guests use luggage carts. Never. This was a first, and not in a good way. I will be sharing this review on every platform available and absolutely will not recommend this hotel for future conventions or personal travel. The lack of hospitality, the disorganized pricing, and the complete disregard for guests’ basic needs speak volumes. You can do better, anywhere. Oh, the bed was uncomfortable and the blankets and sheets were super low quality, stiff, and scratchy. I was very glad to have brought my own blankets at least.
